I would say the game is evenly poised. Had we got Australia all out for less than 150, then we'd have good advantage. Now, it's more or less we've to start from scratch. But if we can score 250 again, we'll have a "game on hai" situation as they say :wy

For the next test, please replace Shaw with Gill or KL or anyone!!!

Same goes for Saha and Vihari if they don't perform in this innings.

Disappointed with Shaw who looks short on confidence and needs a break to go away and work on his technique.

I would rather have Ashwin as a stop gap opener for next game and try to squeeze in another batsman apart from Gill in the line up. Why not have Gill and Pant (the latter to don the gloves as Saha is a better out fielder).

Come the third test, Saha/Pant can then make way for Rohit and Ashwin can slip down the order.

So, once again India couldn’t knock tail out cheaply. Tail wagging is going to cost India dearly

Shaw and Saha should be replaced.

Vihari can be given one more test match.
He played decently in last tour.

Despite the loss of Prithvi Shaw late in the evening, a four-wicket haul by Ravichandran Ashwin in a fine team bowling performance gave India a handy 62 run-lead at the end of day two of the first Test at Adelaide Oval.

India lost Shaw for just four in the final hour on day two, but nightwatchman Jasprit Bumrah and Mayank Agarwal took the visitors to stumps without further damage. Australia, behind by 53 runs after an ordinary batting performance, picked up the wicket of Shaw in the fourth over but could have had his partner too, had Tim Paine held onto an edge in Pat Cummins' first over.

The decisive moment in the day, one that perhaps firmly tilted the scales India's way, came in the Australian innings when Ashwin deceived Steve Smith with a peach to leave Australia in the lurch at 45/3, shortly after Bumrah had accounted for the openers. Facing 29 deliveries for a solitary run, Smith never looked at ease against the off-spinner and Ashwin had him edging to the cordon off one that didn't quite turn as much as the Australian expected.

With the lynchpin in the batting line-up back, Ashwin grew in confidence and he had Travis Head lobbing one back at him, before a half-tracker had debutant Cameron Green smashing to mid-wicket where Virat Kohli held onto a fine catch.

By tea on day two, India had eaten into half of the Australian line-up while holding a healthy lead of 152. The onus was on Marnus Labuschagne, who had survived two dropped chances, and Paine, to revive the innings.

However, with the partnership just starting to blossom, Umesh Yadav struck with a skidder that had Labuschagne trapped in front. He followed up with the wicket of Cummins two balls later to leave India right on top.

India should have closed the innings out sooner from there, but dropped chances let Paine and Mitchell Starc add some useful runs to cut down the deficit to just 53 by the time the hosts were bowled out, as the skipper remained unbeaten on 73, his third-highest score in the format.

Earlier in the day, it took Australia just 25 balls to bring the Indian innings to a close. Cummins struck with his third delivery in the day when he sent back Ashwin, who nicked behind to the wicket-keeper.

Wriddhiman Saha edged behind off Starc in the next over, chasing a wide one. That left India's hopes with Yadav and Bumrah, the latter of whom was fresh off a half-century from the tour game.

Bumrah remained unbeaten as Yadav and Mohammad Shami departed in the space of six balls. India had added just 11 runs to their overnight total as they were bowled out for 244.

With the ball though, the visitors came out all guns blazing as Bumrah and Yadav bowled tight new-ball spells, conceding just 12 runs in the first 10 overs.

The first blow came in the 15th over when Bumrah, coming in from around the wicket at the left-hander, had Matthew Wade trapped in front. The review went in vain and India had the first wicket in the bag.

Bumrah struck again in his next over as he sent back the other opener, Joe Burns, also trapped in front with a full one that swung back into him. Having set him up with some back-of-a-length deliveries, the Indian pacer bowled the fuller in-swinging one to account for the opener.

India's joy could have multiplied next over if Bumrah had held onto a fairly straightforward chance offered by Labuschagne at deep square-leg. But in an attempt to save the six, Bumrah failed to go for the catch and the Australia middle-order batsman made them pay with a hard-fought 47, facing 119 balls and playing the pacers and spinners equally well.

Labuschagne, though, did offer another fairly easy chance off a short ball as Bumrah was pulled away in an unconvincing manner to mid-wicket, where Shaw put down a regulation chance.

What appeared to be a Smith - Labuschagne masterclass in the waiting turned into a fabulous show by the Indian bowlers, as Ashwin dismissed Smith and then chipped away at the middle-order.

Overallgood fight and spirit shownby india, not easy to come out and defend 250odd...welldone lads...:hasan2

NhA he is still good. But what I realised is that he too often needs lives to score big.

Scored two flawless centuries in England in the 1st test. Apart from Pune are there any notable instances. Certainly he takes advantage of opportunities, like any great batsmen

Very good day for India but it could have been a lot better.

Expect the Aussies to come back hard, but India favourites at the moment.

If India can build from here, they should win this test. If achieved, they will have a great chance of winning the series.

A series win against an Aussie side with Warner, Smith and first team bowling attack would surely mark India's greatest moment in their history of test cricket.

THIS is a true series of friendship. Both teams gifting wickets and chances to each other. Also, prithiv Shaw need to fold his collar down and play like he is representing the country, if he can’t do that, he need to stick to IPL and leave test cricket to grown ups.

We always lose these close contests in SENA, unless the lead was 80-100, this will most probably end up in the same way.

Prithvi Shaw is in extremely poor form, he should be dropped immediately.

India did well to bowl Australia out, but the factor which will determine if they win is if Mayank can last the morning session.

If he goes big, it is going to be very difficult to keep Australia in the game.

This is probably the worst outing for Labuschagne i have seen. Got three chances, almost got steve smith run out. Absolutely pathetic!

Not in australia you dont. A lead of 50+ with Australia to bat last is very tough

Australia vs India, 1st Test: Ravichandran Ashwin Says He Felt Like "Making A Debut" All Over Again

India's spin spearhead Ravichandran Ashwin, who stole the show on day two of the pink-ball Test by picking four wickets, said he felt like "making a debut" as he stepped on the field to play an international game after 10 months. Ashwin last played a match for India in the longest format of the game in February this year as all sporting fixtures were either cancelled or postponed after that due to the coronavirus pandemic. The senior campaigner said he never imagined that he would be playing Test cricket amid the coronavirus scare and expressed his happiness over international sporting action resuming.

"I am so happy that we are playing Test cricket again. It's been a long time and I didn't imagine that we will be playing Test cricket looking at what's happening around," Ashwin said during a virtual press conference.

"Me being extremely mad about the sport, did a lot of work during the lockdown. So it was refreshing to go out there and bowl, the feeling was great – the pink-ball Test and all that new thing about the pink ball," he added.

Ashwin first hogged the limelight on day two when he dismissed in-form batsman Steve Smith.

The spinner admitted that it was a "big wicket" and relished the chance of bowling after so long.

"Felt amazing to go out there and play. I felt I was making my debut all over again so I really enjoyed bowling. Obviously, Smith's wicket was a big wicket (because of) the way he bats.

"So it was an important wicket and I enjoyed it," he added.

India's fielding has been terrible this whole tour. Someone needs to look into it. So many dropped catches. Their bowlers must be sweating whenever the ball goes in the air.

Not in australia you dont. A lead of 50+ with Australia to bat last is very tough

We should look to add 200 runs more, 262 will be a safe total for us. Aussies are playing at home, so they can chase these 210-220 totals in final inning.

I agree, the game is still only 55-45 on India's favor IMO which could very well tilt towards AUS in a single session if we are not being careful.

It will be very, very hard for them to win the series without the GOAT Asian Test captain leading the side. It is a shame that this series coincided with the birth of Kohli’s child.

Of course he did the right thing by skipping the remaining series. It is more important than cricket.

Very important day tomorrow. If we can bat all day and get a lead around 270,Its going to be game on

Pleasantly surprised with Umesh

Lots of drop catches, fielding coach must be held accountable

When was the last time they chased a 200 plus total against a non-minnow at home? cricinfo says it was in 2013 and against England who didn’t have this good an attack. And Australia had way better batsmen. Even the otherwise reliable Steve Smith has a poor 4th innings average.
Chasing in 4th innings is never easy especially on a pitch like this which is showing variable bounce and turn. I would reckon 250 plus is enough. But India needs to pile on as many as runs possible and keep Aussie bowlers tired.

I dunno stats but all teams will find things relatively easier at home than away. With a 220-230 chase, it can be a bit tricky you never know. Hence, you would want to take that lead atleast above 250 to make sure they don't stand a chance. As far as defending totals are concerned, we can defend even 190 but why open gate for them.

Don't feel too sure about this to be honest. We could have absolutely nailed down the advantage if we held on to some of those catches and gained an 80-90 run lead but couldn't. That might just come back and bite us cometh Sunday.

Don't have much faith in our batting to put up a 275+ target with walking wickets like Vihari, Saha and a dead wood tail. The ball is still brand-new, so if Aussies get past Puj,VK and Ajnk relatively cheaply...say 120/4 then they're firmly back... heck even favourites. There's no way the Aussie batting lineup is failing twice in a Test.

Its frustrating to see so many dollies being dropped again and again. I am a big fan of Saha but he should have grabbed at least one out of the two. Granted they were difficult but we all claim he is a superior keeper over Pant so there are no excuses. Handy lead and looks to be our game if we can stretch the target to 275 which looks likely. Super impressed by our bowler's control esp the start Umesh and Bumrah provided.

I am not entirely confident India will win that easily with 250+...remember that Ashwin ain't the best bowler to exploit a 4th inns pitch as was proven on the English tour when Moeen Ali was unplayable and Ashwin hardly got a wicket. The guy just does too many experiments (leg breaks, top spinners,...) and doesn't stick to simple offspin bowling like Lyon

Australia should struggle to score anything over 200 in the 4th innings. India have this test practically in the bag.

That's what we thought last time, until they got within 30 runs of our 2nd innings total.

We need a lead of 300 minimum.

Saha is played exactly for those tough catches. If hes not taking them,Pant is far better option

Tough start to the series with many dropped catches, no Warner, No Kholi, No Ishant.

Aus batting also looks very brittle with Burns, untested Wade, and newbie Green. Very few Aus crowd, I guess because of the covid.

I could have sworn I saw him score a 70 yesterday.

Oh yeah I forgot about that. In that case I agree they're going to find it tough because there is no one remotely close to Kohli as a test batsman (especially in Australian conditions) and as a skipper who knows how to get the best out of his bowlers.

Credit to India on an unreal bowling performance, never expected it down under in a line up including Smith, routing for them to pull of an upset

India bowled well on day 2, was impressed with lengths they bowled and also good use of the short ball. If it wasnt for the shambolic fielding they would have had a bigger lead.

I think 250+ would be very tough for Aussies to chase here.
