My first look at Rauf.............first impressions :

1) If he is a test bowler, we have a serious shortage of talent in Pakistan. He looks very ordinary.

2) We need 5 bowlers........4 bowlers are going to be worn out....I expect Asif and Aamer to be overbowled.

3) The early optimism has dwindled away in an hour. It's going to be a long day.

agreed on all 3.......rauf's stats looked good in both the warm up games in nz and aus, but watching him, he looks very ordinary so far...
also ajmal is not built for test cricket....hes only real weapons are his variations, and unless the batsmen are looking to attack, he's not that useful.....

I am quite disappointed with Umar's fielding. Seeing how good Fawad is in the field I assumed Umar will be decent as well. He seems to be quite poor with drops in NZ and now today. I guess dropping catches like amazing stroke plays run in the Akmal family

wow, Rauf bowling low 130s with no swing. Won't cut it here. We should have gambled with Sami. He would give runs but create opportunities.

Umar is one of those carefree people who are more interested in their own personal glory and flamboyance...I don't see him giving two hoots about the team...he'd fit right into the indian team...

Really top class spell to start from Asif and Aamer. Aamer was consistently quick and both troubled us. Rauf looks pretty ordinary.

That catch is going to hurt.

And no I am not going now, was supposed to go with the family but someone stuffed up getting tickets. I might go third day...

Might add Watson really does look a quality Test class batsman.

oh well I am going for sleep. Australia will win this match hands down. Good bye.
And then they ask why we ignore new comers.

Well today will tell the story of the match. So far it looks like a batting pitch and both of them seem very comfy there

I do not agree with you. His 100 in the 2nd ODI and his performance in the NZ tour shows he can play for the team. I do agree that he has to be able to finish the innings well as he gets out usually when the job is not complete. I hope it will come with experience because he has talent not doubt just have to follow it up with good temperament.

unimpressed with Rauf. bowling such a terrible line to Katich. not to mention there seems to be absolutely no effort whatsoever.

fielders are awfully quiet... no more oye hoye hoye and other shabaashes. Team taken in by the crowd.

I'm not watching but has anyone noticed how Krapich looks like a spider when he bats?

How can you pt any effort in there when you arms and legs are flailing all over the place so uncontrollably?

I wish someone would squash him soon

Pak needs to slow down the run rate more and more, if the wickets are not coming

Bowling is already looking a little thin. I fear MoYo has made a huge error in judgement by not selecting Kaneria and Gul (assuming both are fit).

i meant the short mid off for Watson.. Moyo looking active.

And what about the sweeper for Katich,
the long on for Watson
the only 1 man close in for Ajmal

defensive on the first day morning

In short, 0/42 and their good bowlers are resting so time to make hay.
This is where Twatson should be in his element then.

yeah there's that too. as others have noted, what an ugly action.

He got lucky in NZ...in every innings he scored...he came out swinging like there was no tomorrow...only for Kiwis to give him a chance or two every time...unfortunately the aussies won't be so generous...

Australia look primed to make 400+. Not looking good, we need to get these guys out so that we can bowl to the real batting which is in the middle order.
