Aussies would have struggled big time
 
I think all the bowlers are fit...Umar probably needed the rest, but I think in Kaneria's case, the injury excuse was used to sit him out...his consternation in the field and being consoled by the Pakistani physio tells a very different story from the official version...
 
Disappointed to see Kaneria and Gul out, I just think Kaneria is a more dangerous bowler than Ajmal in tests. I hope Rauf has a good game but I would have preferred to see Sami in there.

Agree with that.

Kaneria does not need as much assistance off the pitch like Ajmal does.

What is going on? match is supposed to start in 15 mins and Willow says 45 mins till broadcast begins.

Why???

Even is he isn't
they've dropped him and used injury as an "excuse" because he is a "senior" who can not be "dropped"

10.00am The news from the middle, Australia have won the toss and opted to bat. Ricky Ponting has recovered from his elbow injury and is playing. Pakistan are without the services of Umar Gul and Danish Kaneria. Saeed Ajmal's been picked. We'll get you the XIs in a bit. Peter Siddle returns for Australia, replacing Clint McKay. No debut for Steven Smith at the MCG, he was brought in as cover for Nathan Hauritz, who is fit.
 
So the man from Karachi and Peshawar don't play. Is it an all Punjab team then?

Thanks. Kaneria's exclusion could hurt us. Hopefully our seamers will do the job

What does that suppose to mean? Faisal Iqbal from where he comes from? Just don't bring that Provincial crap into national side playing for Pakistan on an away tour, Please.
 
dam losin gul and danish has really knocked us back even before game has started. Also think we should have replaced gul with mohammad sami an not rauf
 
I think we loose bowling edge with Rauf and Ajmal. let's hope Ameer and Asif strike early, otherwise, we are in for long Aus inning.

Gul deserved to be rested...however Kaneria's sitting out is definitely fishy...he was almost crying...I believe he could have and wanted to play...

Bad planning that Sami arrived only a day before test. He is in good form and should be replacing Gul.

He comes form the land of bhanjas...even if he was Indian he would have played...

Rauf isn't a bad selection, can bat a little, but he'll be bowling first change. So might not be as affective..lets see.

Australia virtually at full strength it seems.
 
If this is politics keeping Kineria out then who ever is behind it should never be allowed to to do anything with Pak team. Just sad

Ajmal wouldn't fare too badly in think, but daani boy is much more attacking.

Kaneria's fingers were wrapped up against NZ as well, i don't how bad his injury is but we are seriously going to miss him.

Didn't Rashid Latif say that Abdul Rauf is the best bowler available after sami and shoiab akhtar?

Last year Australia scored 375 batting first in Melbourne against S.A.

The year before that it was 343 in the first innings against India.

So Pak will have to bowl well just to restrict Aus them under 350.
 
Does anyone know why Danish Kaneria isn't playing in the final XI is he injured ? And Umar Gul also whas he not fit enough to play...

The first session is the most important one for Pakistan in this match we need to make good use of the new ball or else aussies wil pile up a big total and put Pakistan in real pressure situation. Just get those first 2 wickets in the first session...and we can realy make a fight of it.
 
Now I can see why they asked Farhat to bowl in the side match. The plan were in place that Kineria may not play and they will need some leg spin from Farhat.
 
Ajmal and Rauf a I hope they do well but on a good wicket they wont take wickets, Its all up to Asif now as every body else is too green
 
Who the hell said its politics behind dropping Kaneria and Gul? Can't they be seriously injured? If Kaneria was half fit there was no chance I would have risked him when I was going to play 4 specialist bowlers.

Give it a rest guys. Khuda key liye yaar.
 
Although I am Misbah's fan, after that horrendous shot he played to get out in the last test, he didn't deserve to be in the team.
 
Moyo needs to show some aggression. Please Moyo work hard show some imagination, guts and positive attitude, and believe me Allah will help you:)
 
Aus bowling looking really strong , we need to get aus out in 350-400 region

Pakistan once again only 4 bowling options, Mohammed Yousuf should realy look to find a good balance between them, you don't want to see the young Amir bowling to many overs.
