What's new

Australia v Pakistan | 2nd Test | Melbourne | Dec 26-30, 2016 | Day 5

How many of these 16 will survive the WI tour - so far they have been united & bonded for 3 Series in UAE, NZ & AUS - is the 4th series going to be same? Or will we see experienced heads like MoHa, Iftekhar & Babar back?

After all the threads hyping the first innings performance and how pakistan would have won if not for the rain, this is kinda funny.

Pakistan have four batsmen simply not contributing enough in Aslam, Babar, Younis and Misbah. Sarfraz has been out to some good balls but these 40s and 50s aren't much in the grand scheme of a Test match.

Add to that a bowling lineup that has not been able to deliver a consistent line and length and poor tactics then you can't keep defying the odds.

That is a disgraceful performance, I'm not a Pakistani and even I'm mad

How on earth do you lose 10 wickets in 50 overs here...

this is a spineless display. Less than 90 overs to survive on day 5 and Pakistan do this?
I'd be fuming Haroon786

challo jee game over........

where are all those optimistic lovers now..............:yk2 calling us pessimistic losers. the writing was on the wall but some folks could not read it

shame on pakistani team for such pathetic performance. they were such losers this morning in the field, with no passion, missing catches, mis field. they did not attack at all. nd then super pathetic while batting

Only Pak could lose this match :))

Misbah and YK should retire after the last match...

Why last match? In an ideal world, they would have been dropped after this Test - at least they can step down.

Really bad from Pakistan. You let your fans and many neutral observers down. You deserve whatever comes your way.

misbah, younis, barbar and, asalm should not play next test.. already lost, lets see how other can do... How can you let australia hit so many runs in 1 session.. bowl outside off and stop the runs.. If we havendt given so many runs first session.. So many mistakes.. its sydney match like again. but that match was f maybe.... Pakistan will lost every match their will play....mentally the fans and the players are down.. We will lost the 5 odis without fight and loss the next test

It's a pathetic performance but chill dude. It's just a game.
Probably deflecting a bit of our performance on Pakistan here, still, how do you lose 10 wickets in 50 overs here... This match should have been easy to draw on the last day. Just an awful, gutless display by the Pakistani batsmen. You cannot simply capitulate when the going gets tough at this level, especially for a top 5 side..

Smith's defensive blunders covered up yet again.Aus will be overjoyous,Starc played a huge role, his batting onslaught nailed it as well

This hurt so much. This whole series has so far.

From the Gabba heroics to just barely missing it. Now collapsing like this. Yaar what have they done

After this I don't think Sydney was fixed. We just can't mentally hack it against Australia in Australia. They're too competitive and aggressive for us.

Misbah and YK have to go.

Get two kids in here for the next Test, ZERO point in keeping these two in the side for the next Test.

The young batsmen need the experience and it's not like they will do much worse than these two.

Gilly what do Australians make of hosting second rate sides in your summer while the box office fixture occurs much earlier during the exam period?

Do they feel Australia's home dominance over the last 4 years has been diluted?
CA must give to get. Come to SA over the festive and CSA will return the favour. I don't care about the financial implications. Cricket should always come first. I would love to have Australia over for a boxing day fixture. It would be historic.

and then most thought we deserved and should have still be No 1 in Tests..

We don't deserve it!!

Lyon wasn't happy at all at the presentation.. Can tell he is nervous about the future

Misbah and YK are done, Sami isn't international standard and Shafiq is way too inconsistent... I really wouldn't keep him around as he will let you down 90% of the time.

Just 50 odd overs..
50 overs, innings loss and plenty of overs lost to rain... that too coming off the debacle in the second Test against a weak NZ side.

How many good sides are there left in cricket?

NZ, Pakistan, England, Aus, Bangladesh and WI are all poor sides.

Until Pakistan doesn't have a total revamp of the grassroot cricket structure and the admins of the PCB & all city & regional cricket associations, we won't be seeing ANY change and no success outside Asia. More importantly the PCB needs to get with the times, it's 2016! They need to use cutting edge technology and everything else to make sure the players get accustomed to playing in EVERY condition that exists on planet earth! This is the ONLY SPORT we're semi-kinda-sorta-decent at! WE gotta do everything it takes to be a world beating team and unless we don't use tech and change the work culture of our team, nothing will ever change!

I feel sorry for Pakistan fans they deserve better than this. Test match cricket is not about performing in sessions but throughout the five days.
Congrats Australia, may your home dominance continue for the next four years or so

Not going to happen, its prime time in Australia for cricket and if they let it slip there are plenty of other sports ready to fill the gap. Its not about money or SA its just a tradition that cements cricket as the number one sport in summer and especially over the xmas period. So in a way its making sure cricket does come first.

So we have a SA tour of Aus in 4 years to look forward to :yk2

If Misbah is around, I can tell you, at least 14 of this 16 will go to WI. 2 changes are MoHa for Sami & may be one pace bowler for Sohail.

YK, Azhar, Babar, Sarfu, Asad, Amir, Yasir, Wahab, Rahat, Imran - are certain to tour & Wahab will still bat at 9 if Sohail is dropped from the team. And, there is a good chance that one of Ajmal or Zulfiquar will return to the squad.

However, I must say, that team will be better in WI condition than what was chosen for ANZ tour.

These days, MoM is always given to batsmen, particularly if he is a high profile one. If any batsman deserved the MoM, it should have been Warner, for his counter attack. Personally, my MoM was Starc - for his all-round game.

1:30 AM and I'm up despite my flight yesterday and having only 2 hours of sleep last night as a result.

This is so waste. I think I'm on the verge of fully giving up.
:( I can relate. Been awake since 2am, start work at 8.45am. It's losses like this that make you feel like never watching cricket again.

who cares what they do at WI? performance against WI does not count anymore

they lost shamefully in NZ and they lost shamefully in Aus. losing 10 wickets regularly under 60 overs. shameless performance.

well i am surprised you are not used to it. this is 4th one by so called misbah great in last 4 months. one in england, one in UAE against WI, one in hamilton NZ and now here at MCG

ENG couldn't win a series in WI last time they went to those shores. It's not easy.

Can't even imagine what the Pak fans are going through lol. I'm an Indian and both me and my dad are very disappointed at the way they have lost this. I can see why the likes of Mamoon are so pessimistic when they have seen and experienced so much disappointment and are trying to just protect themselves.

What makes you think that they will "perform" in WI?

I have a little understanding of the game - it's not humanly possible to survive modern day cricket & schedule with a team of average age over 35 - that too almost every bowler in their mid to late 30s. If this team is taken to WI for Test matchs - WICB will need just to make sure that the game continues for 5 days; you'll see PAK's bowling after Day 2 & batting after Day 3 ...........

I'm honestly not surprised at this loss. Nor am I mad at the team. I was sensing a potential collapse like the countless other one's we have had in the past. This team disappoints its fans so frequently that losses like these don't phase me anymore. Seems like we reached our peak as a test team during Eng and it has been a downward spiral ever since. Sydney is a dead rubber now so we should try some different players - Sharjeel, Asghar, and Imran.

None were this bad and this stings a whole lot more being against the Aussies.

You can never get used to this anyway, especially when the same team chases 400+ on the last day of D/N test.

One of the most painful losses of all time.
I don't know if I'm gonna follow the 3rd match now.

What do you want me to do? Cry about it?

To be honest I was half expecting Pak to lose when Aus declared...
Don't cry about it obviously, but if NZ lost a Test like this, I would be fuming.. that too what happened after a few weeks ago in NZ.. It was unacceptable performance. Personally I'm disappointed as it just proves there is very few good sides left in world cricket.

Only decent to good sides left are SA and India.

Lost?

Just checked cricinfo on a whim about the impending draw/washout and the page quite literally took me aback.

If three of the world's 6-8 best players of spin (Younis+Misbah+Shafiq) get out to Lyon, whose captain knows he sucks, what can you say?

kon jawab day ga?

All the fans want 5 tests series against South Africa

I am laughing out of disappointed, but I'm not fuming because I was already kind of expecting pak to lose, as they always nearly do when there is some pressure...

Pakistan's bowling is easily one of the most disappointing things about them right now, more specifically the pace attack. Failed to take 20 wickets in both tests. How has it gotten to the point where it seems like india might actually have a better stable of seamers when not long ago they were getting ridiculed for it by Pakistan?
