What's new

Australia v South Africa | 1st Test | Perth | Nov 3-7, 2016 | Day 2

Maharaja might end up as Lyon ,where bounce comes into play while he bowls, good first test though that too in Aus of all places.

SA back in the game.

They just need to bat well in 3rd inning and maybe post 300 total.

Its a fun game for sure.

Or he might end up as an incredibly good bowler everywhere in the world.

Haven't seen him bowl but this is some stunning figures in Aus that too Perth.

Indian fans feeling threatened :))

Maharaja has done well in his very first innings in Aus, no more excuses for Ashwin now.

3rd wicket for Maharaja!

The biggest challenge for Pak will be beleif and self confidence to think about the unthinkable, "A test series win in Oz" and they have the talent to pull that off. And the will have to take their game to another level and fire on cylinders have to beat Oz at their own game, two approaches can work for that either outpace australian batting or our patience them with their usual attritional cricket. First approach is riskier but kind a short cut but 2nd approach is safer but will not play attritional cricket for long length of time to really frustrate Aussies.

Who would have even dreamed that SA will have world class spinners, and two at the same time, even any asian team would be jealouse of this. And it will be for the first time that indian and pakistani origin players are helping another same team and are world class player for that team. Imran in LOIs, who is best ever spinner in LOIs after Saqi and in hindsight pakistan really repent it. And now in test they have maharaj. Amazing

Convict Wassup?

Enjoying the match.

We both agreed this would be the best time for bowling and our lame middle order didn't do much.

A good shield wicket which offers help to batsmen and bowlers

3rd wicket for Maharaja!

On the contrary , he is brother Keshav :amla ,complete support to him also Yasir will have more to live upto as he tours next.

leatherface58 what were you saying about Philander?

Well I knock off one thing from my Bucket List just two days ago "Watch Cubs win a world Series"... My biggest one is "Pakistan Win a Test Series in Australia", Who knows this may be the year to shorten my bucket list or wish list as a fan!!!

What Cubs?

4 for Philander leatherface58

What was Junaids saying about SA leaving Morkel out for Maharaj again?

Man this match might be over within 3 days.

Just saw that beauty by Rabada to Khawaja

Yasir has won 2 Tests in England, he has nothing to prove like a certain off spinner from India.

2 run lead. Wow, close game. Unfortunately, we probably won't have Steyn so Aus have the advantage here.

Gone. Excellent catching throughout the day. Absolutely amazing day this for South Africa. Need to aim for a lead of at least 240 now. Should be enough for this weak batting lineup if they get Warner and Finch early.

18 overs and 3 wickets

I don't remember how many spinners have done better on a day 2 WACA pitch.

Finch playing Test cricket? :)) Convict

Australian tail seems to be longer than ours, also their Keeper Navel is no match to Sarfraz...It's Warner and Smith.... To get rid of Warner, we have to play Irfan, which is essential to win in Australia. But anyway their batting is manageable no where near as daunting as the Old Auses!!

Excellent from SA.

Lol at the U-turns here. Some people just run their mouth without putting much thought.

Cant see them getting finch.

That's why Mohammad Asif is the key bowler in Australia next month.

If Pakistan selects him, they win.

If they omit Asif, they lose.

Simple as that.
we'll lose regardless

its not like asif was able to change results in 2009

LOL ... what :yk

How poor is the SA batting if even the Australian batsmen can make more runs.

What Cubs?

The most important sports new of the day was "Chicago Cubs Won the World Series after 108 years". That too in game 7, not to mention one of the best game 7 Baseball game of all time.

Here are the highlights, game was way too good, I could not move for 4 hours.

Result is inevitable of this match, SA needs bat their heart out

With the absence of AB stage its all set for amla to show his class

4 for Philander leatherface58

What was Junaids saying about SA leaving Morkel out for Maharaj again?

Very good performance. Pass me the pie please.

I wish we had a bowling attack like South Africa's. On the occasions where the bats screw up they can make up for it and how!

Losing 10 wickets for just 86 is simply unacceptable especially without Steyn bowling. Shoddy performance from OZ batting.

Hazlewood staring at the batsman is like one of those 12 your old kids on call of duty telling you how they'll destroy you

After Day 1, I was thinking SAF would've realistically hoped to bowl AUS out for 300-350 given their electric start led by Warner.

But this dramatic Australian collapse has swung the door wide open. SAF now must bat sensibly and score in upwards of 300 minimum.

What's the most that's been chased in the 4th innings at the WACA ?

AUS are not immortal at home as many would tell you, we're underprepared but I expect pak to win a minimum of 1 Test down under

SA on top
Aus must be annoyed to be bowled out like that

And no Steyn again
The end is near for him

This is really exciting!

The problem for the Saffas is that without AB De Villiers their batting is a bit lightweight - but then so is Australia's when Warner and Smith don't come off.

South Africa need to get to 300 to be favourites I reckon. They are a bowler down, and the match is moving so fast that it won't go to Day Five, so the advantage of bowling last is reduced.

Another cracking Test on our hands by the looks of it. Steyn's loss prolly won't be too telling going by what happened after he left the field :))

This is becoming a very good test match, S.A 53/2 if they can get up to 250 then it would be a tough chase for Aussies based on game has gone so far.

Looks like S.A will go after Lyon on this wicket as its best way to score runs at the moment, great shot by elgar

Duminy looking solid. Starc back into the attack.

4 hours isn't accurate, more like 3 hours of breaks and ads and 1 hour of play like all american sports :)))

Just Kidding, I don't know and don't care about Baseball :yk

The beauty of Test cricket is that it allows teams to make a come back. I think, despite Styen's injury SAF is well ahead in this Test.

Typical WACA wicket is best for batting on Day 3, then the cracks starts to appear from Day 4 lunch. I think, SAF's strategy was spot on yesterday - they bought out time to have wickets at hand on Day 3. If AUS doesn't knock 3/4 in morning session, I think SAF is going to bat whole day & take the lead over 350. An hour of batting on Day 4 morning after heavy roller, it'll be near impossible for AUS to take the Test to Day 5.

If South Africa can get a lead of 300 plus it's there game to win. Current Aussies batting line up other than Smith and Warner doesn't seem strong and there isn't much depth to it. Marsh and Nevile are badly out of form and don't look test quality.

The pressure of a run chase and fighting for there positions, 300 plus should be more than enough. Only worry is that South Africa have only 3 bowlers. Lot of work for Rabada and Philandar to cope with.

Disappointing really, now that we're in transition players who never got injured are getting injured for fun. Three important series India, Eng and now Australia.
Would be nice to lose without excuses.
Hopefully Starc sits out the 2nd and 3rd Test. It's ridiculous how unlucky we've been with injuries.

We're in a good position, but don't have Steyn, what's worse is the day/night Test i was banking on.

Could I just ask are there any young South African batters coming through other Bavuma?
