Australia vs England | 1st ODI | Lord's | 29/06/12

and it seems that cricket is interrupting the rain (cricinfo)

Lee and McKay bowled 3 good overs each. Bell and Cook hanging in. Bell has caught behind decision overturned by DRS, thank goodness for DRS!

62/0 after 14 with few alarms. This is looking good for England so far. They seem to have a coherent and gritty batting lineup if not a particularly talented one. But their bowling is of course excellent. 260 would be a competitive score I feel.

Hopefully the rain goes away and we get a full game and a result.

I think Mike Hussey is injured for part or all of this series. England's bogey player; they will be pleased.

What a misfield from George Bailey :))) :))) :))) Brilliant!

Bell LBW b Lee 41

Dead.

Eng 74/1 after 17.

Apparently Bell got a faint inside edge but was given out LBW. He failed to review :(

Dar hasn't been as good as usual recently :aleemdar

did bell have inside edge? then why didn't he review?, why go whining?

Who whined?

Interesting though, often commentators and players state that a batsman always knows whether he's edged a ball or not. This seems to suggest otherwise as Bell would have reviewed if he'd have known.

No shocker, else Belly would've called for DRS to the rescue. If Bell himself didn't notice it, it's hardly terrible that the Ump didn't. :aleemdar

Yep if you're not an Aussie or a pom then you'd have to be pretty committed to sit through this!

6 pm, supernatural is on.till then nothing on TV. so have too watch the adventures of tuk tuk trott and big bad bopara

Well done Ravi, take a blow to the head and don't flinch. Don't let them know your hurt, Steve Waugh would be proud.

112/2 after 27 overs isn't that great a score really. Australia can keep this total down to something chaseable.

Interesting for me (even though I can take or leave ODI) just to see how Cummins goes. Really haven't seen much of him at all. One or two whirlwind matches against SA ad then gone.

Australia waste their review.

There's something about a game with the Aussies. Sadly I'm on the late at work today so won't be able to watch the run chase.

Australia marginal favourites to me. England aren't scoring quickly enough. Though this pitch could be more difficult than it looks.

This series is for the die-hard followers only. I'm not one of those anymore but I'll watch it when I'm around.

Interestingly the people who are taking this the most seriously are the England players and management. Flower seems to have changed the mentality so they care about ODIs all of a sudden. They have foregone a 4th Test with South Africa to play this series, have brought forward the Ashes scheduling by a year, and have also arranged an extra ODI series in Australia in 2014/15 season - all in preparation for the World Cup.

England focusing on ODIs as equal or better than test cricket. Not sure if I like that........ ;-)

England take the last batting powerplay.

Get ready for wickets galore!

Agreed ECBs attitude is ruining World Cricket

258 first up is par at Lord's, England need at least that.

England's 50 overs will come from Finn, Anderson, Broad, Bresnan and Swann. That's strong.

Their strategy is clear; Australia are going to have to bat very well.

Probably good that Trott gets out there. For his usual 50 at an 80 SR. That is a decent anchor innings and typical for him, but no more than that.

The last ten overs need the hitters like Morgan, Kieswetter and Bresnan in.

England need 8 an over from the last 8 to even reach 260. This has been an overly defensive performance from them, and they are going to need a huge bowling and fielding effort to win.

forget pirlo friggin English selectors are homophobic., selecting bedwetter over Davies is a joke. is Davies injured?

theyve got only 6 specialist batsman........so they are bound to me on the defensive a bit

super fiedling by Aussies, making their bowling attack much better

Kieswetter needs to do something special in the next few overs. You could make a case for Prior, Davies, Buttler and Bairstow to keep above him.

I am pleased about the winning mentality, but the placing greater importance on ODIs is gonna take a bit more getting used to.

Morgan takes lee to the cleaners.

Really enjoying this match. Odis still have a lot to offer, sky commentary, fast bowling, big shoots, top players and a decent crowd.

Who says odis are dead!

Lee throws up a bad ball every over.
