What's new

Australia vs India | 1st Test | Adelaide | Dec 6-10, 2018 | Day 1 Thread

This is exactly What AU would have hoped for. If Indians do not make 200, they are screwed; inng defeat on the horizon.

Always knew this would happen, as I said with much stronger batting line ups in the past we have still struggled, this line up is not even 50% of that.

Thats some poor stuff from no 1 ranked team

These dismissals might make sense in England. But in Australia??

That was the worst of the dismissals.

What a horrible horrible shot by Rahane !

What on Earth is he thinking ? You don’t even drive those shots when the ball isn’t swinging but when it is slightly it’s even more daft.

They have almost tossed this match away now inthe first session.

What a team. They have everything from money to manpower and still play like minnows overseas in the one sport that they are any good at.

It isn't even fantastic bowling from what I can discern. These guys are throwing their wickets away by trying to drive.

Rohit to the rescue?

No not in England as the ball moves even more there.

Those shots only in work in India, but even there it’s risky as they still fairly wide.

And here I was, thinking they would score 450. I feel so embarassed.

Relax.

India can only get better from here and am sure they will fare greater in the second innings.

In England if you cover the line of the swing and play the shot you might be able to execute it. But, on bounce wickets playing on the up is always risky

That is if there is something left to bat for in the 2nd innings

Pujara is looking dangerous. Double century is on.

You misunderstand. My point was because they use the Kookaburra in Australia the ball literally does nothing after 20 overs so you simply wait until then (by which time the ball will have softened too). Show patience as a batsman and you will be rewarded.

In England however, the Dukes means the ball will conventionally swing even after 80 overs (and it swings more too) so there is no respite.

Where are our Indian friends? Match is still on, anything can happen. Maybe Rohit will play the innings of his life.

Yet again some great bowling changes from Paine.

No idea why Nathan Lyon is bowling on the opening morning of a Test against india where the seamers have been running riot. When will non-Asian teams realise that Asian teams are very competent players of spin?

So it looks like all this talk of whether this is Australia B or Australia Z and which team is stronger on paper is useless. No matter what the circumstances, India will always lose in Australia and vice versa. Even a local club cricket team look like they can beat India the way they are playing.

If Pujara gets out after playing at this SR surely Kohli and Sahstri arent gonna be too pleased.

I personally dont mind this but I dont see in which areas and how he will score runs, he can play 100 plus balls but without capitalizing on bad balls runs are not gonna come.

Paine is probably hoping the Indians get PTSD flashbacks of Steve O' Keefe.

Lunch Day 1 - It has all been Australia on Day 1 of the first Test in Adelaide against India. India are struggling at 56/4 at Lunch in 27 overs. A riveting second session on cards.

We were told by Mamoon that Kohli ke durander will deflate this Aussie attack. What happened.Overated team
Pakistan will show this overrated team how to win overseas

3 out right fast bowlers, do you want Paine to kill one of them by bowling 9 each? After lunch, there will be a 3/4 overs express spell from 2 pacers, there after till 2nd ball, almost entirely Lyon from one end and 3-4 overs spell in rotation for other 3. May be, Finch/Head might bowl few overs in between, but more or less if IND bats full 90 overs, it'll be max. Strac 19, Hazlewood 23, Cummins 18 and rest by Lyon 25+ & part timers.

Whatever cricket I have seen so far in my life Australia is one team which always brings overarated Indian team back to earth

One session and the breakdown has started here. At least wait for the day to finish before calling teams overrated.

You score runs at Adelaide by staying in and batting against bowlers who have toiled all day in 39 degree heat blown in by a desert wind. By batting on Day 2 when it eases out. You don't win a Test by scoring an extra 30 runs in the first session & a half. They tried driving on the up. It looked dumb.

All three batsmen out driving at wide ones.

Sometimes it's the simplest of plans...

Gavaskar famously said "give the pacers the first hour, and they will give you the rest of the day".

Run rate has gone down below 2. I think Aussies won’t mind such barren partnerships because scoring rate is key in AUS. Once Kookaburra gets old, one has to score quickly. Aussies should be happy if IND is like 203/5 when 2nd ball is due.

You know your batting lineup is rubbish when RG Sharma us your top scorer in this lineup. Playing both Vijay and rahane is suicidal. Need Shaw and vihari in for the next game otherwise this has 4-0 written all over it.

I like how Pujara is playing with the tail.. Making sure he plays most of the deliveries. Shades of Laxman I say! :babar

So the kookaburra swung for first 18-20 overs and now it's all flat with true bounce.

Is it a same pitch where Australia used to bat first and put 125/0 after lunch with Warner scoring 60-ball 80.

Decent recovery - it’s a 2 innings game & Ausdies will bat last. I think, if IND can close 1st innings around 250, they are not out of the game. Indian pacers will also trouble Aussie top order tomorrow morning. One of these 2 has to get a hundred or close to that.

Just when I thought Sharmaji has grown up ...............Now reaching 200 will be tough.

What happened to the No 1 Team in the world? Thought they were going to wipe the floor with us, lol.

Pant SR 200 after 1 ball.

Bhaijaan creates hype thread :)))

India have themselves to blame. Some lose shots early on playing away from body and Rohit then having a brainfade.

It was a great toss for India to win but they threw a great chance it seems. 4th inning will be fun if Ashwin bowls well and India remains in the game.

This is a BCCI strategy to ensure ACB incurs losses due to low revenue. They are trying to end the game in 3 days.

Ashwin averages 50+ in Australia right? He will do well to play more than two matches before getting dropped.

I feel the pitch will do a lot in 4th inning as Lyon looked so great on day 1 here and the team that will bat last will find things hard. However, for that to happen

1) India need to bat well and put a decent total.
2) Ashwin need to bowl well and not do the repeat telecast of what he showcased in England.

So, basically my point is if Ashwin bowls well and India bats well, it can be interesting in 4th inning. However, I am not too sure of both things happening. India did well to win the toss but at this moment, they seems to be dropping away the advantage they got.

Openers were horrible. Going back to Vijay was so cringe worthy decision.

Kohli too played an uncharacteristic stroke but even then he should be termed unlucky as what a catch that was by Usman.

Pujara is still looking dangerous. The double century is still on. Also, the hack on the other end would struggle to make the Canada team on merit. However, we'll still give him a chance because we're nice like that.

I cannot believe how far Indian standards have fallen. First Rahul and now Pant. Anyone who can hit sixes is a superstar now, eh?

Can the Canadian players make a 4th innings hundred in England?

It wasn't a serious comment. However, I don't rate Pant. He's way too loose and has obvious technical flaws which might get badly exposed as this series progresses.

No need for Indians to panic at this point

After playing shots that he should've gotten out on, he gets out on the faintest of nicks.

Continuous failure of these pseudo openers makes me wonder why the hell is Mayank making all these runs?

Any runs India scores now is a bonus actually as I thought we'll fold for a sub-100 score.

Lol @ india. They always hype things up before a series like this and end up embarassing themselves.

Pujara was the last batsman I'd expect to hold his ground this far in the innings lol... well second last after Rohit.

Need at least 250 to even have a chance because Aussies will make 450-500 guaranteed.
