No force in the shot. He should have tried to play a fluent cover drive.

Yeah. Chalo its ok..he did his job.

Now Sachin, Ganguly, Yuvi, and Dhoni have to get us past follow on.

With-in minutes, you can see the importance of innings Dravid (and of course VVS) played! He was surely slow, but he did well to spend time in middle and avoid flurry of wickets. Good job by both him and VVS. Time now for other batsman put premium on their wickets and make bowlers sweat!

^^ totally agree with that .Yuvi should learn from Dravid, an out of from still played out 150 + balls .Can he do that ?

200's up...although it could very easily have been 197/4.

Thankfully, the ball was sailing too fast for Hayden.

Hi Guys.
And earlier everybody was so pissed at Dravid for playing slow, seriously, people don't understand the game to the extent they should. Dravid basically
taught a lesson to all out of form batsmen in the world, that when you struggle or have difficulty playing shots, there are alternatives you could try in test cricket, that may not ensure the flurry of runs, but can be beneficial for the team.Dravid has been under a lot of pressure, he understands that if he does not play well ,he is the only senior player at the moment, who can be targeted by BCCI , and can be dropped.
I rate his fifty really high in my books and Dravid has earned more respect from me.

I was one of them..but in retrospect, he definitely played a good knock.

what do you think Maratha? Can India still win from here?

Doubtful yaar. If the remaing batsmen fire, then we can surely come close to, or surpass, their total. At that point, a draw will probably be on the cards as Australia will probably put up another big total.

The worst case scenario is that our batsmen fail completely tommorrow (avoid the followon, but just barely) and Australia score at a brisk rate to put up a large total with a day (or 1.5 days) remaining. At that point, a loss would be certain.

What are your thoughts?

Actually I think differently. I believe that India could still win it from here, all they need to do is somehow level the scores with Australia, and last two days will have more leaning towards the results. Kumble needs to play a huge role in the 2nd innings, and he can, 'cause the pitch will help him.No matter how fast or slow the tracks are, spinners always come handy on day 4th and 5th, and there is always something in the pitch for them. Test matches always change dramatically on day 4 n 5. Let's see.

Interesting, and something that I would certainly wish for.. :)

India in a pretty good postion. They need to bat most of tomorrow to make match very intresting!

Yep, india will need to get near as 550 as possible at the end of day 3 (bat quick and create some sort of lead), and hopefully they will.

hmmmmmmmm, there is nothing in the pitch that can worry the batsmen.
but Even some one as experinced as Ganguly is not picking Hogg's wrong uns.i am not sure Yuvi, Dhoni and Kumble can pick him.

So far ok. but all the good work done by the Dravid-Lax partnership can disappear if the Old war horses fail. it will be too big a task for Yuvi and Dhoni to handle on their own with out any leading hand from SRT/SCG.

India has to first avoid follow on, which should be easy. then they should try to take the score as near to Aussies as possible.

then bowl out Aussies or restrict them from going at 4+ an over in their 2nd innings.Harbhajan and Kumble have to bring something special to the party and the batsmen have to rise to the occasion in India's 2nd innings or they can kiss the series good bye at Perth.

I was maybe a bit too optimistic in my last post.

That should be the plan for tommorow, hopefully Sachin and Ganguly can work their magic. Secondly, India should look to bowl out Australia in 3 sessions(90 overs), let's say they bowled out Australia for 280, having chased down Australia's first innings score, then on the last day, India would need to chase 280 in 3 sessions to level the series.

The rain pattern here is a bit funny. Even today it was a very hot and sunny day at the ground but storm clouds were very visible from the ground. There was a bit of a flash of rain a few minutes ago but it seems to have stopped.

About today, got there a little late but nothing of note had happened. Sat in the members pavilion, a few metres to the left of where the Indian players would enter/exit from. Was entertaining watching Lee and Johnson put bat to ball. Johnson played some pretty good shots - didnt know he could bat this well.

It was an absolute privilege watching Laxman's innings today. Was incredible fluent with his offside shots but was equally comfortable bringing the ball from outside offstump and whipping it through midon/midwicket. I was lucky enough to see a real masterclass by Lara the first time I watched an ODI live and was equally fortunate to see a fantastic knock by Laxman my first time at a test.

Dravid's innings was totally something else. I struggle to keep my attention and sit still in the best of times. And here we had him not scoring a single run for at least an hour plus the sun making my mood even worse, it took something to stay there and watch through that. The crowd banter with him was quite amusing and despite the turgid performance he put on for a good part of the innings I actually somehow respect him for it. He was clearly far from his best but he didnt let anything bother or fluster him.

Daoud,
You are quite lucky! Do you go to most SCG tests?

Laxman is class and when playing like this he is even more pleasing to the eye than even M Vaughan.

Congrats to Lee for his fifty and to Symonds for his 150....also to Dravid and VVS for fifty and hundred respectivly!!
India batted well today....there's still a long way to go!! Both their set batsmen are back in the pavilion...it will b a good contest tomorrow wid Sachin n Saurav (bboth relatively new batsmen) on the crease..

hope the match doesn't get affected by rain...!

Nope, first time cause Im usually not here during the majority of cricket season. But didnt go away on holiday this time so got the chance to go to the cricket. Laxman's innings managed to overshadow sunburn and Dravid's woeful performance cause it really was that good to watch

Awesome innings from VVS. Sometimes it amazes me that he doesn't play like this against anyone but us. He would go down as an all time great in my opinion if he played like this against other teams as well as OZ. As I predicted the other day, India are right back in it.

It would be a shame if this Test was spoiled by rain. But we can't blame God for being biased because He made it rain just when India were fighting back...or can we? :D

Gratz on scoring a ticket mate. I didn't go back to Sydney this year otherwise I wouldn't have minded meeting up.

Day 3 will be pivitol if india can get up and close to aussies i got a sneak feeling they could win the match as i sense a 2nd inns Aussie collapse. On flip side if india give Aussies a 100+ lead they will be chasing the 8-ball and could be looking at a trick last day trying to save match!

Haha AJ ,i liked ur optimism . U can't say anything in tests ,things change in a matter of few overs . Both Ganguly and Tendulkar should do what Laxman and Dravid did yesterday .Play sensibly with controlled aggression.

Yep, and India will need to get as close to the Aussie total as possible. This match will be out of hands if India give Australia a lead of 100+. I pray rain don't spoil this match :59:.
