Umpires must have heard something extra otherwise whatever was picked up in mic was perfectly fine. Not sure what you found abusive. Even Warne and Co, found it perfectly fine.

Exactly. Paine made fun of Dhoni replacing him. He is returning the favors saying he will lose his captaincy once Smith is back. If anything it is pretty mild. With India on top any lapse in concentration from Paine will only help India.
