My image of Du Plessis has always been of him Faffing up the WC for SA by running out AB in the quarters against NZ

But that might probably change today

Around 35 overs to go. That's still quite a few overs.

If these pair can go in to the last session SA have a chance to draw

These Saffers are tough, respect to them. Will be a massive effort if they can hold on here.

This will go down to the wire..

last 10 overs will be very interesting if saffers lose a wicket near the end..

Clarke left the field for an over..to discuss tactics or am I reading too much into it?

Hilf. Indian gave you guys false picture last year. Starc swings it both ways and is tad quicker. It's a travesty he can't find a place in the team.

Travesty? If you looked at his first class career you would say its a travesty he is anywhere near the team. Hilf is a proven Test match bowler who was averaging under 30. You cant drop him after one game for the next shiny thing.

Starc will play in Perth, as he was always intended to.

it will b like a win for RSA if they draw it , Faf has always proved wen given chance

Weird wicket this one. Flat on the 1st day, ok on the 2nd, good on the 3rd, great on the 4th and back to being flat on the 5th. :)) :junaid

Hilfy knocks out Warner and Wade misses an edge. That's pretty much the most interesting passage of play the whole day.

So now saying match will be draw when you are chest thumping is called trolling..

Good on you...

Enough from you. No more responding to your posts.

This looks pretty tough for us now, respect to Faffy on debut for two really important knocks. And Kallizzzz as usual.

Unless something happen out of the ordinary, looks like a decider in Perth. *cue media bakwaas about fast bouncy Perth pitch which will be a complete road in reality*

Same here...

Faf missed by Wade, Tea now SA have a chance to save the Test now.

Faf 94(277) superb innings

Well Haddin missed about a catch a Test on average. So long as Wade doesnt run down the wicket at 5/16, get out and then walk back to the pavilion laughing about it, we will be content.

I think Wade does deserve a run but he isnt justifying his position neither with the bat nor with the ball in test matches (short time but still..)

Are there any wicket keepers on the horizon or is it just between Haddin and Wade?

I am very proud of du Plessis.

As a Lanc, I take responsibility for his cricket upbringing, playing a vital role in the Lancs XI.

You're welcome SA. See, our Kolpak deals and your lot coming to play in our counties isn't always a one-way street.

I think Tim Paine is there

Always rated him. Mark Nicholas was going on and on about his ODI form on Eng tour which had no relevance to longer version.

Mark Nicholas is massively stupid quite often.

Faf du Plessis is a true fighter.

Anyone who follows Lancs matches knows that we are godawful at batting, and that it generally is our bowling that carries us. Faf du Plessis was our one generally good batsman, and fought for every run while the rest of our lot collapsed (occasionally Horton, Croft or Smith would make a magnificient stand). He has great experience batting with tailenders as well. Lancs games used to go down to Faf/other top order eking out runs slowly with Chapple, Hogg and Mahmood to put up a decent total.

Wade certainly hasnt cemented his spot. Paine is on the comeback trail, and there is a couple of others. I would be surprised if we went back to Haddin.

Paine is a talent. Haddin should be kept away from the side.

A Haddin comeback for the Ashes would be great crack :duck

We will see by end of match..

I want a OZ win..but cant see they take 5 wickets in session after taking only 1 in 2.5 sessions...

It will be very tough. It needed a special effort from SA to bat a whole day to draw, and it looks like they are going to do that. It also needed a special effort from OZ and Lyon to take the wickets, and they haven't done that.

Disagree, it was a special effort from SA but that level of performance wasn't required from Oz, just a strong professional effort. This goes down as a big opportunity missed.

Bowl has started to reverse, waqar as a bowling coach would had been really handy.

We dropped a couple of catches, end of. Operating a bowler down.

it deserves to be mentioned here..guys dont forget faf du plessis played for Chennai Super Kings..so dont be surprised by this emerging talent.

100 for DP. What a knock and on debut as well.

Terrific knock from FAF under immense pressure.

After about 10 overs, expect there to be lots of glove-changing and running for drinks. Perhaps some scratching at the pitch and sightscreen issues.
