Match scheduled to begin at 14:30 local time (03:30 GMT)

Weather: I called my sister in Sydney and made her look at the sky and apparently there's a bit of cloud cover but but not expected to rain.

Latest mail is that the wicket is expected to be low and slow, a typical SCG wicket. According to Clarke:

Australia captain Michael Clarke says unless the pitch changes drastically overnight, he expects spin and change of pace – one of Watson’s strengths as a bowler - could have a massive bearing on the result.

After the team left the SCG on Saturday, ground staff sprinkled grass clippings onto the wicket and then rolled it in.

“It looks like spin is going to play a part. It looks quite dry and it certainly hasn’t got as much grass on it as I’ve seen in past one-day matches at the SCG,” said Clarke.

“Having said that … a day of sun and a bit of rolling … hopefully it hardens up.

“But at the SCG in general, I think change of pace has always been a weapon and generally spin plays a part as it’s a pretty big ground as well.”

Clarke predicted scoring runs would be a huge test today.

“You have to play your best as a batter. Conditions are very different to what we’ve just seen in Perth and I think it’s a little bit different to what South Africa played on (when they scored 400 against West Indies),” said Clarke.

“I really want to say no (winning the toss) doesn’t matter. But looking at the wicket, if we had to play then the toss would be crucial.

“Generally under lights at the SCG the ball can skid on a bit more … it’s just how much the wicket slows up and that’ll be dictated by how hard the pitch is today I think.

“If we turn up and the wicket is rock hard it’ll be really consistent for both teams. If it’s still a bit tacky like it (was yesterday), I’d really want to bat first."

As a result the latest mail is that Watson will be given a lifeline and Doherty may make an appearance, probably replacing Hazlewood.

For SL Dimuth Karunaratne is out, not sure who will replace...maybe Kiri can tell us.

This match could decide who Pakistan will face in the QFs so I think a lot of PPers will watching this game quite closely.

Is Herath in?

We should pick two spinners plus Dilshan. I want to see Senanayake alongside Herath.

Bat first, get a good total up and then strangle them with spin. :murali

Should be a great match.

Maybe SL can win and we'll play them in the QF. :p

Why isn't Ryan Harris considered for Aussies in ODIs, i know they are stacked as of now but Harris is a top notch bowler.

Lol wth is this crap SL lone up?Malinga is the only pace bowler ?no lakmal?no chameera, just Perera and Mathews along with Senanayake and Prasanna ?dumb stuff from SL

Prasanna is replacing Dimuth, he was already in SL as a standby player after Herath's injury. Since SL badly needed a spinner and a hack, they made Prasanna the official replacement for Dimuth and flew in Sanath 2.0 Counterfeit as a standby for Herath.

SL starting line up

Thirimanne
Dilshan
Sangakkara
Chandimal
Mahela
Mathews
Tharanga
Perera
Senanayake
Malinga

500 runs are in card.

Idk it's interesting, I would have backed Aus to chase down whatever SL set.

I think SL have a chance chasing here.

Herath should be playing.

Actually I was wrong. Apparently Herath injured himself and is out.

Changes:

Sri Lanka have made three changes, with Seekkuge Prasanna, Upul Tharanga and Sachithra Senanayake coming in for the injured Dimuth Karunaratne and Rangana Herath, with the non-injured Suranga Lakmal being the other exclusion.

On the Australian side of things we have Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Marsh making way for Xavier Doherty and Shane Watson. Watto will be batting at No. 6 for the sake of team balance.

Shane Warne has had a chance to assess the pitch: "Surprised to see how bare and dry the pitch is. It is the same one South Africa used recently to make 400. It is really flat and hard, so batting first is the best option. I reckon getting 270-plus should be enough"

It's a slow wicket. Probably 250-300 absolute max.

Have a bad feeling this is gonna be worse than the hammering we got from nz.
Seeku is a very poor man's Afridi, sad that the selectors thought he is a worthy replacement for Herath.

SL using all their batsmen only bowlers are given rest.

Regarding Harris - sending down ten overs in about five key World Cup games was all that would have been required.

If SL (somehow) beat Aus , will we face SL in qf ?

you face 4th place team, currently you are looking to face England/Bangla. If SL lose they will be in 3rd place, if they win 2nd place and vice versa for Australia aswell.

I dont like the idea of bowling round the bowling by an off spinner ... you just cut down the probabilities and options of taking a wicket

Srilanka is chasing :)) I don't know see them crossing 200 today under lights.

Got to turn the pressure up on Finch. Get fielders saving one. He looks so uncomfortable out there.

Listening to Rusell Arnold is like fingernails on a chalkboard.

He's not a bad analyst. Much prefer him to the dross about pizza toppings and nerds v julios that I was subjected to earlier in the summer.
