What's new

Australia will do better than 4-0 in this Indian tour

What's the lead now, 298?

I think India might have say a 20% chance at chasing 360 or less

Almost done and dusted.

Its one thing to chase 250-300 and another to chase 400.

Indian bats should be positive and just play without any targets in mind. Whatever happens, let it happen.

We had a TINY chance of finishing off Aussie innings if Smith was caught before tea. But we missed that and also after tea multiple times. You ain't winning close tests by dropping so many catches of the opposition's best bat.

just do like Pakistan at Gabba, if target is 450

When was the last time a 350+ chase happens in india?

remember once india did it in 2008-09 against eng....that too with the individual brilliance of sehwag

That not going to repeat here guessing tomorrow the ball may show variations like boomerang

Top performance from Aussies ,esp their batsmen as said in op reminds me of 2012 English tour

Vs England a few years back, when Sehwag, Laxman and Tendulkar (and UV Singh?) struck gold together. Kohli and Lokesh may be able to dig India out of this similar hole, but their pitch seems much more difficult.

This game is pretty much in Aussie bag

Would be interested to see if they can sustain this performance

This is similar to the surfaces during BD-ENG series where England failed to score 300 in any of the innings. It helps the weaker side achieve parity (BD and AUS).

This is the risk that you take by dishing out a rank turner. If your batsmen aren't on top of their game you can easily get rolled over by a nothing spinner. India would've won this series 4-0 if they played on slow turners where SOK and Lyon would be ineffective but hey idc this is great entertainment. Every ball is an event on these kinds of wickets so it makes for enjoyable viewing, especially for the neutral.

0-1 Australia.

Hope we don't lose the series.

Fantastic game. Huge credit to Australia for defying the formbook and the odds and leaving many people, myself included, with egg on our faces.

When visitors go 1 up, than series starts, lets see how Indian responds? - Australia had good weapons to counter... India would be vary of making another rank turner, flat wicket does not give them any unique advantage, threat of Strac with reverse is always there, plus draw does not help...This was also very good practice for Ausses batters, you don't get spin test better than that...

Big thing was Australia beating India in such a comprehensive way on rank turner, did they ever do that in past? - Its like to have a big win in WACA or GABBA, after that they don't know what to through at you ;-)

Looking like Australia might 4-0 India!

Funnily enough, if before the series you would have stated that at the end of the first game, one of these two teams would be bowled out for 105 and 107 in the first test, followed by 189 all out in the second test with the other team romping home to victory each time - very few would have wagered that team to be India.

Yeah, I'm absolutely shocked. Total role reversal. I'm at a loss to understand how India have fallen off so badly after dominating the last 6 months. Aside from Rahul the rest of the team averages 8 or thereabouts. Lyon and O'Keefe have 26 wickets between them in just 3 innings.

Were the England and NZ spinners that bad? Probably, but at least Bangladesh had a quality spin duo with Shakib and Miraz. India played them a lot better than Lyon and O'Keefe. It seems they have just forgotten how to play spin between the Bangladesh and Australia series.

That, and probably fatigue comes into play? This has been our schedule leading up to this series:

4 x West Indies
3 x New Zealand
5 x England
1 x Bangladesh
2* x Australia

Hardly an excuse though.

while a tough schedule its not out of the ordinary

with kohli personally i can understand as hes been captain in all formats too but the rest most of them have been adequately rested too

Also Aus has had a crazy schedule too (not compared to ind ofcourse) since Aug too.
3 x SL
3 xSA
3 x Pak
2* x Ind
And unlike india's most have actually lasted 5 days

and multitude of random ODI series including 5 match away to SA,

We've had ODI and T20 series too, which I didn't list.

More than Kohli - Ashwin's fingers must especially be wrecked.

If they want rest, they can give it their all the rest of this series and take the IPL off. Will they do that though? Not a snowflake's chance in hell. And that's the part where hypocrisy wins and sympathy drifts down to naught.

Why would they give up on million dollars for playing a few t20 to prepare for some boring test matches for NT

Ashwin is certainly overbowled. It feels like India turn to him earlier in matches and get him to bowl more overs than Sri Lanka did with Murali/Herath.

I think Ashein rested most of the ODIs and t20 series

From here, Australia can certainly not do better than 4-0 against India.

How about injury?

Our batting average minus Rahul (the only suspect playing through injury) is 8. As far as ashwin is concerned it doesn't take much fitness for a spinner unless he has injured his fingers. Possible but most unlikely.

Not really, he had some bad moments in the England series too. Sports hernia is not a very light injury either.

Then he shouldn't be playing. Simple

There are no participation medals

That is up to him and the team. If they think that he will perform at a lower level, but he is still needed, then they will play him.

Anyway, injury aside, it has only been 1 match. He is bowling well this morning.

When Yasir Shah is overbowled, fatigued and moretime is carrying an injury, he's an average bowler. When the greatest thing since Virat Kohli who's the greatest thing since sliced bread is overbowled/fatigued, he'll 'bounce back' and needs rest.

Same thing with Team India and Team Pakistan vs lesser players of spin (i.e. Windies/Australia).... A strong odor of double standardness is whizzing around ...

So in a series where everybody was calling a clear 4-0 to Australia, they've won one and drawn one.

Who would've thunk?

Another outstanding performance

They've only really had three bad days this series, days 3 & 4 in Bangalore and day 4 in Ranchi

What a fantastic series.

Going into Day 3 of the final test, you still can't call it.

Australia have been amazing .
India have looked like a very average side.
In an era of home bullies this has been a very ordinary performance from India.
Lyon outbowling Ashwin comprehensively sums up the series so far.
