Islamabad: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja has termed Indian Premier League (IPL) an elephant in the room as players are going more towards money rather than playing for their teams.

In an exclusive interview in ‘Off The Record’ with Kashif Abbasi, Ramiz touched upon various perspectives after New Zealand and England canceled their tours of Pakistan.

Ramiz said that Australians have changed their approach while playing against India. “Australians have changed their DNA because of money, they play against India happily and without aggressive approach,” he said.

“International cricketers have pressure as now they want to save their IPL contracts where they receive a lot of money plus add-ons,” he added.

“New Zealand ran away and England followed the same suit. They both have done wrong against us,” he added.

Meanwhile, Ramiz termed Prime Minister Imran Khan’s meeting with the players today as ‘ a great pep’ talk ahead of the T20 World Cup.

Ramiz is right. IPL will be the only sport. Cricket is already dead and will lose its charm in the future. Like wrestling cricket is going the same way mindless entertainment like wrestling. Why represent your country just earn enough money on the side and then retire.

I think Ramiz is lost, Some of the great matches in past few years involved India and Australia against each other, playing aggresively and trying to win games for their country.

Very immature and childish from a cricket board chief. Loved his commentary but he doesn't seem to have the chops to be a chief.

I am getting vibes of Ijaz butt from ramiz raja.
I hope ramiz's tenure of chairmanship doesn't proceed like ijaz butt's one.

The way pcb is railing against IPL, may be its time BCCI takes some retaliatory action.

Didn't expect such comments from someone like Ramiz Raja. He seems to have completely lost his head.

Empty vessels make the most noise.

IPL itself is a bigger brand than PCB. BCCI does not need to respond or take action.

PCB has been crying about IPL for over a decade and the IPL continues to get bigger and bigger.

That sums up everything.

So are Pakistan and all other countries . One hand they wanted to play against india or in IPL other hand they criticize Australia .irony

Ramiz doesn’t have the facts right either. Australians going easy? I remember the on and off field battles in the last tour.

Lol. I thought BCCI has already been in retaliation mode for the past decade.

What more can they do? Send Abhinandan to cancel the PSL?

Can somebody ask Ramiz Raja to stop giving these damn interviews 3 times a day.

This is too much.

Ramiz is still doing commentary? He has totally lost it.

I guess even then it would be ridiculous to make so many over-the-top statements. Maybe he thinks that he is a regular cricket fan.

IPL vs PCB 😁

Just offer cricketers exclusivity clause, 20 percent more salary for not playing in any other league except the home league, without IPLs permission.

Ramiz Raja is too emotional for this job.

He said he would not give any interviews or be in the limelight, but that's all he has done so far. I get the situation is a bit different but you have already said what you needed to. Now focus on improving the domestic and PSL.

He is become PCB chairmen few days ago yet he make so many rediculous statements .what he will say in coming months only god know .

May be that's the reason why we won 2 consecutive series in Australia!

While we are at it, that also conclusively proves that Smith and Warner cheated so as to avoid playing against us in 2018 series which made their team weak which made it easy for us to defeat Australia in Australia!

Some statements were understandable, but I see no context to go after Aus players right now.

A deluded statement by a deluded man.

Australia-India series outrank every other series (except maybe England-Australia) when it comes to controversy, sledging and players from both sides just being generally aggressive. It's why I enjoy this rivalry so much.

Ramiz is a boomer whose perceptions are likely the result of too many conspiratorial WhatsApp forwards. It's actually amazing how poor his understanding of the game is for someone who has been involved in it for so long.

Ramiz is actually very smart. He is building up fan following for his YouTube channel through this rabble rousing.

After he is inevitably terminated he will continue his sermons there

Ok so it means-
If India loses: India being put into place, over hyped, overrated, tullebaaz haha
If India wins: Its bcoz of IPL, the opponent losing to India
Disgraceful. How can you degrade the character of professional cricketers of any country while in official capacity as a chairman of a cricket board. I don't recall any BCCI official ever taking a jibe on Pakistani cricketer ever after spot fixing or any other controversy. It would be great if officials can leave these petty things to ex-cricketers and youtubers. As a administrator, i feel you should always try to bridge the gap and bring people together.

He spoke the truth. Even many cricket writers are saying the same, players are running for money rather than Int cricket, this is nothing new.

IPL can only pay so much because India has 1.3 billion people and cricket is their main sport. If Sri Lanka or Nepal had the same population with cricket as main sport, they would have the most paid league. It doesnt mean India is some great nation of sport.

So you mean to say teams lose to India deliberately in order to secure IPL contracts? You guys are delusional. I am out of here. Keep smoking the good stuff.

This is going funny now. Ramiz damaging relationship with NZ, Eng, Aus in fast forward mode with his immature comments.

Pretty clear now - Pakistan will be in doldrums for next couple of years.

Ex-australian captains Clarke and and I think Waugh or Ponting have echoed the same sentiments although they didn't single out the Indian series.

Australia's problems are greater though. They have a serious dearth of talent.

There is no relationship to damage with any of these boards. If there were any, the events of last week would be very different.

Why don’t we change our nice guy DNA knowing we will never have that money?

The way pcb is railing against IPL, may be its time BCCI takes some retaliatory action.

You mean retaliatory action such as not inviting Pakistani players to play in IPL, refusing to play with Pakistan, telling other other boards and other players not to tour Pakistan, or sabotaging ongoing tours with fake security threats originating in India.

I wonder what else can India do, since they haven't done any of the above.

Yeah, Rameez should put 8-10 more inflammatory statements against Aus players. That's the best way to help PCB.

He is acting like a politician who wants to get elected.

He’s actually right.

AUS, for years, had an axe to grind against IND.

It was a great rivalry. But new players came in, the old went away. These new players earn more money from the IPL so why bother to displease them?

The series from 2009 is a stark contrast to the 2020 one.

First disrespected BD and Zim. Called NZ and Eng enemis. Now Aus.

Burning lot of bridges. Might end up isolating themselves.

Instead of working together with IPL, some try to be against IPL. That's not going work, and IPL deserves its own space and freedom as the biggest event yearly.

It's like Champs League of football, where only the World Cups beat it.

If you do well in IPL, it will also help you international. Not just indian players, but everyone. Just ask Watson, Smith who were average players where their heroic IPL performances started their rise.

Understand the reverse psychology, Maybe he is trying to inflame the Australian players i.e. we will go to Pakistan and beat the crap out of these players

Pakistanis need to shut their mouths and let it go. This is embarrassing

First their minister accused an Indian TikTok star for sending threats to NZ. Now Ramiz is ranting ********. This is making a mockery of a serious situation

Last thing Pakistan needs now is another Ejaz Butt

The very foundation of the slam-bang mode of cricket, T20/T10/100 Ball/6ers etc. is entertainment and profitability. None of the Global T20 leagues operate as non-profits. The players have also realized the opportunity to make more money than they would make through their national teams and are onboard with these leagues. The fact that a lot of these players are being asked to play a lot more cricket doesn't help their bodies so they are taking every opportunity to do what they have to do. This is not much different from an average joe flipping jobs when a better opportunity comes along.

On the other side these leagues have also provided an opportunity for the players who have retired from their national teams who have another chance at employment. They are being roped in as consultants, coaches, support staff and some are even playing in these leagues.

IIRC, the IPL was started by BCCI to counter the Indian Cricket League by Kapil Dev and seemed to be an afterthought.

Ramiz is dealing with one the biggest crisis in Pak cricket within days of him being on the helm and he is understandably emotional. However as a Sr. Administrator, he needs to cool down and temper down his statements otherwise he could burn the bridges for good.

Hey, who would not be nice? to the country giving him a multi-million dollar contract. The biggest paycheck of your life. There is a famous phrase for it & it is not 'Changing DNA'... it is ...

Expected atleast some sanity from Ramiz,
Australia didn't put their 100% against India?
So,India shouldn't be getting any credit for playing good cricket ever,by his logic India should be winning every ICC trophy,
in reality its polar opposite to what he said
He shouldn't allow emotions take over his rationale

They are not aggressive against? lol just because PCT gets whitewashed everytime in Aus that’s our fault? Whats wrong with Rameez?

Which board was asked by bcci to not tour pakistan?

Dude, who are you to tell anyone to shut their mouth. No one accused a tiktoker, that's a lie (yet another one) Indians are creating.

Most fans would probably label him as spineless if he didn't react this way

So IPL was fine till they allowed Ramiz to commentate. 2015 or 2016 was the last time i believe.

Who is Rameez to accuse Aussies and rail against the IPL? Did Aussies ask him for advise?

Ramiz is playing to the galleries, trying to win some brownie points with fans. He could complete his tenure burning all the bridges and some more while enjoying the fat pay check.

This . He is just satisfying the emotional Pakistan fan's by giving this type of statement's.

Or they could refuse to tour Pakistan for another 50 years on baseless excuses. Same thing.

Going by your logic, Pakistan has 2nd largest population in cricketing world. But Pakistan cricket performs worse than Windies and NZ at times. Even CPL is better than Psl for neutral fans.

I think Ramiz is an imposter who has infiltrated into PCB to inflict damage purposefully I can find no other excuse for this sort of behaviour.

PCB officials and Pak ministers should ideally remain calm rather than making stupud almost hilarious statements. One minister putting up a photograph of a tiktoker in a press conference, another minister in the morning blaming western bloc because of "never ever" and by evening blaming India, PCB chief Ramiz raza ranting against Australians when until now they haven't even declined coming to Pakistan etc, afterall where will this all lead to except for causing more damage to Pakistan? Leaders should remain calm in tough situations and not act like the masses, rather they should control masses. When in a few days dust will settle and people will become rationale again, it will be very hard to justify all these statements.

Kiwis based upon what their govt said had every right to leave the tour midway. England on the other hand acted rude and inconsiderate without any justification and yet none of the ministers / PCB officials had anything to say about them? Not sure about Australians fearing Indians, Pakistanis certainly seem to be scared of old colonial masters.

I think Ramiz is an imposter who has infiltrated into PCB to inflict damage purposefully I can find no other excuse for this sort of behaviour.

Most likely be has full support for Imran Khan. Other countries didn't have to face this non sense, so it is easy for them to tell PCB to calm down. Most likely they want PCB to continue to be bootlickers.

Lol hes damaging them?? Are you for real

They got damagaed when they cancelled their series in pakistan

His fake bravado on Twitter was applauded by Pakistani fans, and this is why he keeps blabbering this crap.

He is going way too far and his childish and immature language is going to bring in more humiliations and losses for Pakistan Cricket, even more if the team crashes out of the WT20 in the early stages.

Aus is yet to cancel btw but Ramiz is trying is best for that outcome.

Lol if you think aus will tour without these statements you are living in cuckoo land

They havent been in pakistan since 1998 Theyve been by far the worst board in terms of supporting pakistan or its cricket

Steven Smith don't have a great IPL actually.. But the likes Watson, Pollard, Marsh got national call/recall due to great IPL season..

Agree with you that he has full support from Imran Khan. The real story is the snubbing and humiliation of Imran Khan by Jacinda Ardern.

Not true! We recently saw how NZ (population - 50 lakh) humiliated not just PCB but the whole of Pakistan (population - 25 crore).
Population means nothing.

By that logic any time two countries have a disagreement then it's humiliation. Keep your interpretation to yourself.

All you got is cheap shots, huh? LOL @ calling it a humiliation.

Everybody knows that because of the IPL and BCCi clout teams like england and aus go easy on india on the pitch

Its an open secret That contracts will be cancelled if players or boardd get too cocky with the indians or BCCI

Cricket has been ruined and its all because of the money

By that logic any time two countries have a disagreement then it's humiliation. Keep your interpretation to yourself.

Imran called Ardern to assure her and save the tour. She refused. This is not the usual disagreement.

Its a PM failing to convince that his country is safe and his security is credible.

Its true, Aussies now are all lovey dovey when they play India... there is lot of media hype but on the field there is no agression from them. Money can buy u success I guess.

If the IPL offered Ramiz a contract right now he'd quit his job and even crawl their if needed. No one is stopping Pak from developing an equally powerful PSL. Participation of Aussie players in the IPL is not dependent of them submitting to India in a proper series. The Aussies just don't have the same aggressive players they did. Also, they have softened due to the much criticism received over their attitude some years back including accusations of racist abuse.

Why a PCB chairman dragging BCCI, IPL and Team India into this matter. Even if what he said is 100% truth, what relevance it has in current ongoing situation.

Rameez shouldn't have made these comments as it shouldn't matter to him how those players behave as its no business of the PCB.

But lets not kid ourselves. These comments have been made by many pundits and fans. Michael Clarke made a similar point recently and Pat Cummins couldn't even deny it.

Pat Cummins responded to Michael Clarke's bold comments about Australian team 'sucking up' to Virat Kohli during India's tour of Australia in 2018-19. Clarke said Australia went too soft on Kohli and his Indian teammates in a bid to save their Indian Premier League (IPL) contracts.

Notably, Pat Cummins became the costliest foreign buy in the history of IPL auctions when he was bought for Rs 15.5 crore by Kolkata Knight Riders in December.

While Cummins did not entirely rule out Clarke's take
, he said the direction that Australia wanted to take following the scandal would have been a 'bigger factor' to their toned down approach against the Indian players.

As an Indian i feel nothing wrong with that statement except it's coming from a PCB chairman .
Nowadays even the aggression looks like WWE action totally fake .
Just watch Kohli monkey dance after every wicket. :facepalm
