Austria face veil ban 'criminalises Muslim women'

And we should thank hitler for that, if not for the world war, the greedy Britishers would have never left the colonies.

You have ignored my question. Would you have preferred India to have been overrun by Imperial Japan?

Similar logic used by Trump/Americans

May be he doesnot know that the Japanese were helping, financing and arming Netaji and his INA.That the INA had captured parts of north east India before Japan fell and INA had to retreat.

He may also not be aware of the millions Churchill killed in Bengal and the millions his country exploited and killed in India.

Tbh Indians have no beef with Hitler, the British did worse than them.

The hypocrisy here is nauseating. The guy who wants Pakistan to remain Islamic Republic and believes anyone who doesnot want Pakistan to be islamic is a traitor, wants Austria to respect islamic traditions in the name of freedom.

This hypocrisy is exactly what is fuelling islamophobia.

Dont be scared joshilabhai, you can quote me direct.

I realise your understanding is limited on this subject so ill help you.

Austria claims to be a secular democracy , Pakistan an Islamic republic. A secular democracy should not discriminate based on religion. An Islamic republic will follow rules as per it's ideological make up.

As an Indian I can understand why this must be confusing to you, a nation which claims to be secular but isn't even close. :sachin

I dont think secular democracies are looking for certificates from supporters of religious theocratic states.

For too long religious fundamentalists have taken advantage of secular liberal democracies, while dissemenating extremism and muzzling freedom in their own lands.Your bluff is being called out across the world.

About time these stupid excuses are binned and countries acted in matters that compromised their national security. The hypocrisy of religious fundamentalists calling people far right and fascists is laughable.

lol. The irony of a far right Hindutva supporter accusing others of being a fundamentalist.

It's not from they need a certificate, their own ideology is one of a secular democracy which in theory shouldn't discriminate on religious grounds and allow freedom of worship. As I said this is appeasement to the grown far right extremists in the nation of Austria.

Regardless of your accusation, i am neither advocating for a hindu republic in my country, nor have i run away to a western liberal democracy enjoying its freedom while advocating a religious theocracy in my homeland.

If people try to take advantage of a liberal ideology or system rest assured they will be dealt with in the manner they should be.Countries will and are taking steps to secure their nations which preserve their secular liberal democracies and the days of religious fundamentalists hiding behind liberal democratic values of a society while perpetrating religious extremism, fundamentalism and muzzling freedom in their own homeland is coming to an end.For long these fundamentalists have cried racism and religious persecution to get away with their extremism.

Yawn.

You have spent hundreds of hours supporting Modi, the BJP and other former RSS members. They are a right wing extremist party.

I didnt run anywhere, I am from the UK. My parents came over due to finanicial reasons and now we have no problems in this regard. Refute the point instead of making it personal.

Women who wear the veil are not trying to take over anything. You have many in India ie the wife of the Yusuf Pathan, is she trying to take over India with extremism?

Your post is foolish to say the least.

So to the proponent of veil, how does it work when you need to get your photo taken for the ID? And when you need to be checked for security reasons?

No as they wont be arresting anyone on Halloween where thousands wont be identified. Ive already stated what it's about.

But if Halloween people are told to remove their mask out of security reasons, there won’t be any noise. But if someone is told to remove the veil, there will be controversy about racism and discrimination..

Two things.

1. By not showing their face they have committed a crime , thus will be fined even if they remove a mask. Also not sure where you spend your Halloween but people paint their whole faces changing their identity, this cannot be easily removed like a mask.

2. The Austrian authorities have now realised their stupidity so have openly confirmed this will now be only applied to those women who are Muslim and cover their faces, anyone else is fine.

No matter how much they try to hide their discrimination it will come out.

I don't know about banning the veil by law but restrictions should be able to be applied when necessary. It should be perfectly fine to ban wearing of veil/ burqa at malls/ metros or any other public places without being accused of discrimination. No one for example wants any lunatic (Muslim or non-Muslim) to come plant a bomb and then leave the place without any traces because they were hiding their faces. Do you feel me? The same way these places can also ban people from wearing any other form of masks etc.

I see nothing wrong with that.

If it's actually for security reasons and the law is universal, applied to ANYONE who conceals their face then I see no issue with banning it on public transport. But an outright ban in public opens a can of worms. As I have stated earlier, Europe is a cold continent in the winter, thousands of people wear scarfs and hats with only eyes showing while out. Ban that too, then it's fine.

Fair enough.

Austria approves headscarf ban in primary schools

Law against ‘religiously influenced clothing’ exempts male Sikh and Jewish headwear

Austrian MPs have approved a law aimed at banning the headscarf in primary schools, a measure proposed by the ruling rightwing government.

The text refers to any “ideologically or religiously influenced clothing which is associated with the covering of the head”.

Representatives of both parts of the governing coalition, the centre-right People’s party (ÖVP) and the far-right Freedom party (FPÖ), have made it clear that despite its wide description, the law is targeted at the Islamic headscarf.

The FPÖ education spokesman, Wendelin Mölzer, said the law was “a signal against political Islam” while the ÖVP MP Rudolf Taschner said the measure was necessary to free girls from subjugation.

The government said the patka head covering worn by Sikh boys and the Jewish kippa would not be affected. Medical bandages and protection from rain or snow are also not covered by the law approved on Wednesday.

Austria’s official Muslim community organisation, IGGÖ, has condemned the proposals as “shameless” and a “direct assault on the religious freedom of Austrian Muslims”. The organisation has signalled that it will seek to challenge the validity of the law at Austria’s constitutional court.

The government has already said it expects the law to face legal challenges, since similar legislation affecting schools is normally passed with a two-thirds majority. In this instance almost all opposition MPs voted against the measure, with some accusing the government of focusing on garnering positive headlines rather than child welfare.

Irmgard Griss, of the liberal Neos party, said the ban threatened to do more harm than good by making girls at Austrian schools responsible for the repressive policies of authoritarian regimes in Iran or Saudi Arabia. There was no evidence, Griess said, that girls found it more difficult to learn when wearing a headscarf.

The ÖVP and FPÖ formed a coalition in late 2017 after elections in which both parties took a tough anti-immigration stance and warned of the dangers of “parallel societies”. The Austrian chancellor, Sebastian Kurz, said in April 2018: “Covering up small children is definitely not something for which there should be space in our country.”

In a speech on Wednesday, the bestselling Austrian-German novelist Daniel Kehlmann condemned Kurz’s leadership. “I want to ask our silent chancellor very matter-of-factly whether he is fully aware that history books of the future will remember him as the man who enabled a party of rightwing extremists to damage the outer image and inner fabric of this country to such an extent that it will soon no longer be repairable.”

Kurz oversaw an Austrian ban on full-face coverings in 2017, introduced as part of an “integration” policy aimed at limiting the visibility of orthodox Islam in public life. It was criticised by police after it mainly resulted in the issuing of warnings against people wearing smog masks, skiing gear and animal costumes.

“If this law was intended as a contribution in the fight against conservative Islam, then I can only say: it’s gone belly-up,” a representative of the Austrian police union said at the time, adding that many officers were declining to enforce the law.

Denmark enacted a ban on the wearing of face veils in public in 2018, joining other EU countries including France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Bulgaria, and the German state of Bavaria.
