Wonderful batting on day 5 against India. Someone forgot to tell him he's playing in coloured clothing?

I hope any supporters of this waste of space retire from watching this sport since they have absolutely no clue. Arthur's continuous selection of Wahab and Azhar has cost Pakistan a must win match. Hope he's ecstatic about this.

Why single out Azhar, though? Hafeez, Babar, Shehzad.. they've all been the same.
 
Both him and shehzad are just not ODI batsmen. Atleast azhar is good in tests. How do we expect to improve with these 2 opening. Associates wouldn't open with batsmen like these in ODIs
 
Player more than his potential blame those who selected him.
 
Pathetic innings from a pretty pathetic player. He however is in good company with Shehzad and Hafeez.
 
Classic example of playing for yourself.

Still done much better than compared to everyone's favourite on here.

He is Pakistan's Best Test Batsman plus one of the best Test Opener Atm but........

He is an honest trier. Can't expect more from him. Shouldn't have been selected in the first place. Shehzad ruined it for us, followed by Hafeez. Fakhar and Haris are must for the next game, replacing Shehzad and Hafeez.
 
I think he did all that could be expected. He's not a natural striker of the ball but he's ended up batting with Shehzad and Hafeez who should be playing much more aggressively but have been happy to play second fiddle to a makeshift batsman. Disgusting attitude from senior players.
 
Don't care about this innings. As mamoon said in the match thread, a fish cannot climb a tree. I think it's become obvious to most people now that he isn't an ODI batsman
 
It's the fault of Inzi for selecting him and then Sarf n Arthur for playing him when his inability to play at a high SR has been well documented in the last 1 year. It is amazing that we learned absolutely zilch from our Eng tour last summer! We deserve to lose!

Shehzad: Clearly showed he is NOT INTERESTED IN SCORING.

There's the difference. Azhar isn't selfish, he tried, just can't do it. Shehzad shouldn't play cricket for Pak.
 
He tried but he clearly isn't good enough. Selecting him was still mistake regardless of the selfishness of Shezhad
 
Seems like you have a some life long panga with Azhar Ali. He was the only guy who showed some guts and intent today (until Malik came out). Babar Azam, Ahmed Shehzad, and Hafeez all three played worse than Azhar, then why single out one player?

It's same old thing by Pakistani fan, anytime you want to get mad at bad performance of the team, single out player you dont like. If you want to blame the players then put blame the players who were bad on the day, not the player you dont like.

Was a poor innings, but the best out of our entire team so far. Hafeez has been worse. And have no words for Shehzad quite frankly.

Think enough's enough, our better batsmen should be batting up the order. Sarfraz and Malik (or at the very least one of them and the other at 5) need to be in the top four.
 
azhar isnt a modern ODI bat he tried his best but he just isnt good enough to score at 100 S/R on a consistent basis.
 
Pakistan cricket looks worse because many neutrals still remember the golden days. Then the likes of Azhar, Hafeez, Shehzad, Wahab show up.

If there were no golden days of yore, this team would be judged on its merit - which is 8th.

On topic, still time to rescue the trophy. Induct all the youngsters in the next game and have a proper go!
 
Would still play him. If an opener has to be replaced that has to be hack Shahzad.
 
I agree this team is a trash and I feel ashamed to have wasted my precious time watching this game so far . Azhar Ali should resign on moral grounds if he has any moral left in him .These people are failing the nation . Look at the Indian team I mean I have no words .I have lost my intrest in this team .Any one expecting this team ,the mind set of selectors and the team selection to win any game is delusional .Junaid on any given day is a better selection over Wahab but the wonder over in world cup will help Wahab and even his grand children to keep playing for Pakistan .Cricket just reflects what the corruption and nepotism has done to Pakistan . It's a Shame .
 
rohit played a similar innings to Azhar. difference is he had Dhawan Yuvi and Kohli striking at over 100 S/R
 
If you're chasing a big score and your two openers are Shezad and Azhar you might as well quit and go home no chance you'll even be getting close.
 
We had one power hitter after 70 years.... but we decided not to debut him against india... what a shame!!
 
Only Pakistani batsman who looked legit today. But it was disappointing to see him dropping his pace suddenly. Was going all guns blazing and then went into a shell it seemed. Must be frustrating for Pakistani fans but cut him slack for being the top batter in the side still.
 
He started off good but then once the field was spread out, he was unable to take singles

Poor thread. I think Azhar ali played well today. He slowed down towards the end when cowardly Hafeez wasnt rotating strike. He even got out trying to hit a big shot which i dont mind at all. It was a selfless knock by Azhar Ali.
 
He actually started ok and was 36 off 39. Should just be told to swing wildly after that

Agreed, absolutely. Although I still think that he shouldn´t be a part of any ODI team in this era, but one thing I´ve always felt in his batting is that he at least tries to confront his limitations. The intent is admirable, something that I wouldn´t associate with Shehzad and others.
 
Poor thread singling out the only batsman who showed some intent(apart from shoaib and the only one to make a substantial score.
Ahmed Shahzad and Hafeez were much worse,and the Golden Boy flopped under pressure again.

Couldn't agree more. He at least got a score while the others did nothing. Playing at a SR of 80 (its ok), but we have too many players who do this - get a decent knock at a SR of 80. Awful.

Really. He still has fans after today's knock? I dont care who failed or succeeded, Azhar Ali is not an ODI player even on his best days and he needs to banished from the team as soon as possible.

Hafeez, Shehzad and Babar will be held accountable aswell. But on what basis was this tortoise brought back in the team? Because he tries and looks like a buffoon trying to score a single?

He tried and pulled it off for 38 balls or so, but eventually his lack of ability caught up with him.
 
Better having players who try but look like buffoons than those who don't try at all. Pathetic stuff from Shehzad and Hafeez.
 
Regardless of Azhar Ali showing intent, he is not fit enough for the modern odi format and he is not the only one, this goes for Shehzad and Mohd Hafeez as well.
 
Intent is when you are rotating strike well , when 60 percent of balls you face are dot balls you are outdated for modern day cricket.
 
So we have a thread criticising the only Pakistani batsman to put up a credible fight today :o
 
So did Azhar Ali helped Pakistan play out 50 overs?

I thought conditions for batting were going to be very difficult and we needed services of great Azhar Ali to stay at the crease and hold one end so Pakistani team could be able to play all 50 overs. yet we couldn't even last for 40 overs.

Lesson for Pakistani selectors. Old school cricket is dead and buried. Accept modern day cricket and pick players that are capable of delivering to the current requirements than picking up test specialists and outdated batsmen.
 
Lols poor thread. Azhar All was our best batsmen today. Rest did nothing.
 
Quite unfair to criticize him. He is the only player who showed some intent. He might have been more effective had Shahzad and Hafeez not choked the other end.
 
I feel for the guy. He honestly tries his best but he's frankly not talented enough. Let's hope the management realizes it after CT.
 
Once again he cops all the hate. Guy for most of his innings had an acceptable strike rate for someone of his skillset, hovering around 85 and 90, before it faltered a bit at the end. Despite that the guy had one of the best SR's of the innings and was the only player who had any innings of note.

Point the blame at his opening partner and all the others who failed. It ain't Azhar who lost the match today. Poor guy will always get the flak though. Will always maintain he's good enough for Pakistan as an opener and has a great honest attitude, but he'll attract hate for being a tad boring in batting style.
 
He can't be blamed for playing the way he did. He actually surprised us all when he was something like 36 (33) but slowed down considerably after that. Can't expect more from him to be honest. Blame should lie solely on the selectors and not the player who we all know would give us the expected output. He tried his best. Knives should be out for Shahzad, Hafeez, Imad and Wahab first and foremost.
 
You know you are a pretty limited batsman if you are struggling to time the ball even after playing 60 odd balls
 
He is a limited player whose is not a natural strokemaker, but he is a genuine trier and hard working bloke...

He doesn't have the flair nor natural ability to take on the attacks, so can't expect him to up the ante. At least, he is a sincere bloke, who tries his best.

It is players like Shehzad and Hafeez who need to be booted out first, these blokes are selfish and also are limited players...

Exactly. He shouldn't have been selected but whenever he has been selected he has tried to give his best which cant be said about some of the others. Even today he began very well, and kept the scoreboard ticking despite Shahzad and Hafeez really getting stuck at the other end. Not the best innings under the circumstances but certainly doesn't deserve to be criticized today.

Azhar would not look bad if his opening partner is Sharjeel. The real problem is Ahmed Shehzad.
 
This is insane.A thread has been opened on the best performer of a team.!He scored a 50 man at a better or equal rate to Rohit.Pakistan made 164,courtesy to him.He tried to score every ball he faced.What other batsmen did?

Yah he tried to score on every ball he faced but managed to score on only 40% of them. Lol.

He was 36 on 33 balls at one stage , rrr was 8 plus and on next 32 balls he goes on to score 14 runs and gets out pakistan needing 9.75 runs an over. Absolutely fantastic knock.

He played 38 dots out of 65 deliveries.
 
He is not an ODI player.

His whole innings was painful to watch.

Need to get rid of such "seniors" and replace them with new blood. At least new talent has potential to learn and keep up with modern cricket. Asking players like Hafeez and Azhar to change the way they play is unlikely.

Not his fan, just being fair to the guy. This guy was going at run a ball, when selfie king had no idea what he was doing out there. He was doing fine but people (Shehzad, Azam, Hafeez) on the other end choked.

I know Azhar Ali is not an ODI player, and should not have been in the team. But it's not his fault that Inzi and Mickey selected him in the squad. He gave his best, and he was clearly the best batsman for Pakistan today.

You made a whole post just to call him some name, but still dont want to accept the fact that there were other who performed a lot worse. If you were being fair, then this post would have been about Shehzad and Hafeez, not Azhar Ali.

as painful it was I did watch the whole game. He was dancing on the pitch even though he was put down like twice yet he managed to score 50 at a strike rate of 77 chasing a target at almost 8 runs per over. I also watched his pathetic 5 dots when he was stuck on 49. I also witnessed once again his inability to time the ball despite spending 10 overs at the crease. Picking Azhar Ali just shows how defensive and timid Pakistan's approach is. You are not going to win matches with a player who can't rotate the strike to save his life and is playing as an accumulator. An accumulator is at least master of rotating the strike. Azhar Ali doesn't even fall into that category.
 
He at least was honest and played to the best of his ability, shezad and hafeez were total garbage worse than wahabs bowling shezad and hafeez made me punch the wall several times. I cant swear on this post but if i could inzi mickey shezad hafeez and wahab you guys are evil
 
Why won't you leave him alone if he had the ability Azhar would have smashed them he doesn't have lots of shots which Azhar doesn't deserve because ultimately he is a team man and a wonderful person.
