"Babar Azam could be the next guy to go on and get 10,000 Test runs for Pakistan" : Mickey Arthur

Mickey Arthur's thoughts on the Pakistani batsmen in his recent Sky interview :hafeez2

"Azhar is a bit of the glue, Imam-ul-Haq in his second Test, Haris Sohail who unfortunately had a knee injury that kept him out of the game for 18 months, but he plays quick bowling so well, he has a lot of time, but he is also very new in the game.

"Asad will bat at four then we've got Babar Azam. Babar is going to become an incredible player, I think he could be the next guy to go on and get 10,000 Test runs for Pakistan but he gets all his runs in white-ball cricket now, his Test average is very mediocre, he's finding his way in Test cricket still.

"Then we're going to bat Sarfraz at six so it is young, it's inexperienced, it's exciting but I think I might be hiding behind a couple of boxes in the dressing room when we're batting!"

Might need to start off by scoring some runs first, otherwise he will only end up with the 0's he is accumulating in every innings..

I thought only Indians are crazy about personL milestones. Anyways, good luck to Babar, he should have long bright career.

Don't know why it's not possible. Especially if he plays a lot of matches in UAE.

Mickey Arthur knows how to play to the galleries and keep his employers happy.

Mickey obviously sees something in babar which is why he is saying this

Agree with Mickey.
I would even say Babar is on his way to become greatest Pakistani batsman ever. Only an injury will stop him. Glad that Babar has full support of coach, captain and chief selector.

Btw whats wrong in coach boosting young players' confidence and setting them high benchmarks?
Much better than pointlessly criticizing young players all the time.

Going by his stats in FC cricket - 43 matches, 2200+ runs , avg of 34, 2 FC 100s - road to 10k test runs looks very very difficult for Babar. Not a very good start to his test career has pulled his FVMC stats further down.

Not sure if anyone with such an average FC record has gone onto become a very successfull Test batsman. He's a high quality LOI batsman though and is fully capable of turning around his Test /FC stats.

Stop bringing in logic mate, why ruin a fancy opinion with objective stats?? :sanga

Babar is only 23. He can easily get to 10,000 runs even if he has a slow start to this Test career.

That being said, he needs a big score under his belt to get him going. He looks lost and plays very tentative in Test cricket.

Very difficult with the amount of tests we play. It's also only getting worse.

He will have to play till his 45th to get somewhere there.

Mickey Arthur's trust in Babar Azam's ability has shown dividends.

Praise from Mickey for Babar Azam:

"A lot of positives, I thought Babar Azam was outstanding, he's taken his cricket to another level. There's question marks around Babar and I think they'll disappear now, I thought the way he played this series was amazing, he'll just go from strength to strength"

Babar did well in the series but he needs to find a way to kick on after getting starts. I liked the way he was batting with confidence and authority. I think once he gets 1 or 2 more 100s, plenty more will follow.

Getting starts in Test cricket is an obstacle that Babar Azam needs to work on. He's really solid at doing that in ODI Cricket.

He averaged 37 in the series without any hundred. Did he do well? Yes. Did well but only in patches. Has he answered all the questions? I doubt. Mickey goes overboard with praises.

Babar is shining because he is the best among the worse. Asad’s 88 is the highest score for Pakistan in this series. For all the starts he got, it’s troubling he did not go on to get a big score. He is in great nick now and he is not utilizing it. Don’t think he has appetite for big runs.

He’ll end up around 7000 runs in test, but will be very good in limited overs.

without a shadow of doubt the only Pakistani alongwith shan Masood who played their seamers and specially dale styen with full authority and with ease

I liked the way Shan batted much better. Babar knocks were counter attack in desperate situations and SA had fielders up. Shan actually had defense and attack both. I like to see that.

Babar's knock, Shan's resistance, Asad's 2 knocks, hello??? wakeup you lost the series 3-0 you can take these individual performances and keeps praising yourself.

Last time I checked cricket is a team game and those who concentrate on individual performances only will only get individual results not the team result.

He had a good series but he needs to convert these starts, can't be like Root and keep getting out after starts

Shan's batting was a perfect display of Test batting.

Other batsmen did not have that balance and gifted their wickets.
