You didn't get the context, my point is just cuz Babar ranked 1 in t20 doesn't mean he is the best. There are at least a dozen players better than him in this shortest format of the game.

Babar is better batsmen now. He seems to be more conifident that Rahul.

I believe KL Rahul changes his batting to suit imited overs cricket. That is where the money is. In the process, he became a poorer test bat.

It is very difficult transition for a player to be equally good in T20's and Tests. The transisition is too big. In T20s it is enough if you can bat for 6-10 overs. In test matches a batsman should be capable of batting for 2-3 sessions. In my opinion, unless you are top talent like Kohli or Babar, no batsman from T20 should be playing in tests. If I were a coach, I would set up batting units like this:
T20s --> Specialist T20 batsmen
ODIs --> Specialist T20 batsmen + Specialist Test batsmen
Tests -> Specialist Test batsmen.

Warner is in the league of Kohli and Rohit as well. In fact I rate him as the superior opener between him and the latter.

So at present I would say Babar < Warner, but that could change as Babar has now reached his peak.
 
Even as someone who believed in KL Rahul, I’d say it’s time to close this thread. No comparison between the two.

I don't think a batsman reaches his peak when's he's only 4 years into his international career.

I think he'll reach his peak 2-3 years. Right now he's just improving.
 
Overall as a player Babar is better. But Rahul isn't that far away right now.

My Prediction is Babar will still end up better than Rahul at the end.

Rahul is nowhere near Babar and Indians should accept that. No point getting hyper over meaningless hundreds against the 9th ranked ODI team.
 
Rahul is a match winning player and Babar is a supportive player. You cannot afford another Babar like player in a team.

Not saying Rahul is better in this format but goes to to show that everyone bashaes minnows and pad up stats.

Scored over 500 in the World Cup with a strike rate of around 90.
Didn't score them against Sri Lanka, WI or Zimbabwe.

So what's you point?

It's ODI cricket not stick cricket. If it worked like that you will see 500+ scores and 400+ scores regularly. Fatigue, placement of innings, playing ball on merit etc all count. Indian team is no England which continue bashing for 50 overs, every other team apart from England generally go berserk in last 10-12 overs.

Wide gives 1 extra run to the team score and does not add the ball. So 11 in 11 to team score while Rahul was batting.

Rahul might be selfish, however, the example you gave of 10 runs in 11 balls in 35th over is a pretty bad example. It shows how much people lack knowledge about the game and batting in general, expecting real matches to be stick cricket-like.

Kl played 23 innings compared to Babar's 72 for crying out loud. He was never blessed with a consistent run due to the our ATG top 3.

Every great player is selfish to a certain extent. Rahul will be no exception. Point I made was to your post which was calling out Rahul's 10 runs in 11 deliveries. Which is pretty normal during the 35th over of an ODI innings.

He has also been striking at 135+ in T20is this year.

If you read properly you would notice that I didn't create this thread. Also this thread is not just a specific format based comparison.

Probably Rahul would have done better if given a decent run at the top early in his career. We will never know but that shouldn't stop anyone from speculating. I see people going hypothetical about Babar's lack of impact and strike rate in t20 that if he had better players supporting him would have batted at a higher strike rate. Hypothesis based on analyzing current features are a part and parcel of a debate, doesn't matter one bit if you don't like them.

I will frequent this thread to provide timely reality checks to people who overrate Babar. There is not a thing you can do about that.

In order to get anywhere near Babar, he needs to have 2-3 excellent years in all formats.

It's time for him to kick on and after a great showing in the WC and during the Blast stint at Somerset, I believe this success will give him the confidence to consistently bat at a 135+ strike rate.

But for now, Babar's critics have a valid claim about the tempo of his innings in T20Is.

Not a valid claim because the pitches of the UAE don't allow for a batsman to score for over 150 as it is just not needed.

A strike rate of 125-130 is enough. We've defended totals of less than 150 many times in the UAE.

I agree he has to bat at a faster clip. He is good enough to do so, but a SR of 135 is not 'painfully slow' by any standard.

He's been given a decent run. He's played 10 matches this year but what has he done?

He has an average of around 37 with a strike rate of around 75 in 2019

I agree with you in respect of T20Is played in Abu Dhabi because that ground is the worst T20 wicket because not only is it the slowest wicket in world cricket but batsmen are also compounded by the boundary size.

I don't think Dubai and Sharjah are as bad though, but I acknowledge scoring 180+ isn't always realistic in the UAE.

His SR of 149.35 in the Blast this season shows me to he has evolved as a batsman and his strike rate will exceed 130 at some point in the coming year, so I certainly wouldn't be content with a strike rate of 125-130.

Considering most Pak players these days come with a short career span I would rather see him playing a bit more before calling him one of the best in the world. Babar is going through a purple patch right now so I will wait and see how long it lasts and how he evolves and improves his game accordingly once it is over. Even Fakhar and Hasan had purple patches like that, albeit for s shorter period. Not saying Babar is a hack like them but I would still wait and see if he can maintain performances against top teams now that he has been well rated and noticed by the world.

Purple patch and all is fine, but tell me how many matches has the Babar own for his team? Calling Rahul a minnowbasher because he scored a 100 against WI but but but Babar scored all his 100s against India, England and Aus??? Besides that 1 WC match vs NZ, are there any other matches has the Pak superstar own for his team while chasing? I don't get what all this hype about his averages and being in top ICC ranks when he's not winning any games for his team. Heck! The peak sachin with worst Indian batting lineup in 90s has own more matches for India singlehandedly. Ross Taylor, Williamson, Root, Smith, Warner, Rohit Sharma, Kohli are elite class batsmen and putting Babar in their group is an insult all these batsmen who helped their countries win matches. There are many Indian batsmen better than Rahul. Rahul and Vijay are the reason india lost vs safrica in 2018.
Rahul is a walking wick let in seaming conditions.

babar is so much more consistent in limited overs. Not much of a debate really
Although I think he is massively overrated in tests (recent 100 also on flat road in aus) . But Atleast he is not a duck against seam
 
I think a more appropriate comparison would be Shai hope vs babar azam.

In terms of achievement, Babar Azam is miles ahead of KL Rahul in limited overs format. But KL Rahul is a "matchwinner" i.e. someone who can singlehandedly win you the game. I wouldn't call Babar a "matchwinner" in LOIs. Maybe sometimes in T20s but certainly not in ODIs.

On the other hand, they both have very similar records in tests, with KL even having more centuries than Babar, both overall and in SENA. But clearly, Babar is a better test batsman than KL Rahul.

So stats is not everything. Sometimes you just have to watch the game to really be able to see who actually is better and at what.

And how do you actually quantify this match winning capability? Umar Akmal also was a match winner. Damn, I think UA actually won more matches for Pakistan then Rahul did for India so far.
 
Babar has the right attitude is very very hardworking and that’s all that matters. He’s proven that all this tailunt talk is nonsense.
 
Indian fans need to accept that Babar is miles better than KL in both tests and ODIs. They are par in T20s.

KL is also a stat farmer.

Pant, Gill, Shaw are the ones they should have hope for as far as competing with Babar goes.
