Babar is > the Akmal brothers as a batsmen however it's funny how he's the weakest batter in terms of powerhitting.
Anyone who saw Umar Akmal debut in 2009 was sure that at that time he'd become top 5 pakistani batters of all time.
Dude was a sweet timer of the ball and a natural six hitter, the NZ test match is where he shined through and that remains as one of the best test innings ever played by a Pakistani batsmen.
The problem with Umar was that in 2010 and onwards his form plummeted off a cliff and he never improved. Infact some fans noted that they would frequently see Umar Akmal at KFC restraunts a day before the game. He had a non serious attitude.
Babar on the other hand took his career very seriously until 2021. By 2022 people started observing a pit belly and a lethargic attitude. By 2023 he got worse and worse.
As of 2024, Babar azam is no better then Umar Akmal of 2010-2015.

It's hilarious, because he carries all the other akmal genes except this one.
All akmal brothers are talented but lazy who started off as next gen superstars but let their fitness and their desire and hunger for runs fade away and carried that stubborn trait.
Babar is no different, the only difference is that his golden peak lasted longer aka 4 years in total while UA faded away in a year.
Otherwise when it comes to everything else, attitude, fitness, hunger for runs. He's the same as Umar but lacks powerhitting as well lol.

babar was never a power hitter. Shai hope has got that game. He has been fantastic and improved his game recently while Babar as regressed more and more.

Umar was a finished thing by 2015. His career sort of ended around 2014 Asia Cup. Afterwards, he was only a liability. His peak was even shorter and lasted less than a year. He had lost his form during that fateful English summer and afterwards was never the same batter again whether it were excuses or fake injuries (to get Kamran in the eleven), his brain was too small to accept there was something wrong with his attitude.

Hope has challenged himself and dropped down the order from his preferred opening position to no.4 and has visibly worked on improving his SR.
This is the correct comparison and a level that Babar should aspire to.
No point comparing him to Indian batters because they are all superior.
Mind you, if you take Hope's wicketkeeping as well, he is also above Babar and not in the same league

Hope is better than quite a few Indian middle order batters. Who’s clearly better than him to bat at 4 in ODI?

Therein lies the difference. One of them has the ability to hurt the opposition, and score runs when the situation demands. The other is good for taking his time and scoring his runs at a substandard SR by today's standards (2 ball per innings era), when the situation and conditions favor him, provided he is not under pressure.

Shai Hope has more ranges of shots.
But, his overall stats are poorer than Babar's.
Also, Shai Hope has never done well in an ICC event. All of his good performances are in bilaterals and Tests.
True, but Babar is hardly a model ICC event hero either. He has one innings in ICC ODIs.
He had a couple of decent knocks in 2021 T20 WC, that’s it.

I think Babar did well till 2022 World T20. After that, his form declined.
For example, Babar scored a superb century against NZ in 2019 WC. He also did well in that 152/0 game.
I have never seen Shai Hope scoring a decisive innings in a WC against a quality side. Not in the past or in recent times.
Yup those were the innings I was talking about.
Either way, it’s a similar story for both. Although Babar had a couple of innings, ultimately, for the most part, they failed their countries in ICC tournaments
