Babar Azam's batting in pressure situations

Babar in his very first World Cup played an innings against New Zealand that is far superior to anything Amla has ever done in a World Cup or any ICC tournament. Amla’s record in ICC events is embarrassing. So yeah Babar is already better than Amla in pressure situations.

Let's not get too silly about this.
To be fair, Root Kohli Smith Williamson have not played a world cup innings like that.

Closest is probably Williamson Vs SA in this edition, but that pitch was dead compared to edgbaston

KW was the only one needed to bat like that. Root almost got the team closer once with the help of Butler. A 230 run chase? Rohit sharma, Dhawan, Kohli , Smith, Warner, Finch so many guys would have gunned down. INfact Rohit sharma did in this very world cup. But from Babar's perspective this is definitely an elite innings as he is still evolving.

Babar’s innings against New Zealand is more significant than anything Amla has produced under pressure, so the answer is a resounding yes.

Babar's innings against India in the CT final was also crucial and it prevented Pakistan from witnessing the traditional collapse against India in pressure games. I think he made 45 off 47 deliveries in that game.

No . This pitch was tough to bat on. Very tough.
I'm not talking about pitches where you can plonk your front door down and just play through the line without worry.
This was testing pitch, testing bowlers, and 35-2 in a knockout situation.
Even if one of haris / Babar had gotten out before 70 runs needed, I think it would have been a tall order for a new bat to come and score run a ball.
Let's not ignore all this in the context

Not really tough as you sound like. He was not really comfortable against Santner who had just one type of ball. Then he had to face Kane williamson and other bowlers. But i understand the pressure he had to face. You could say Haris Sohail relieved the pressure with one six. Then they took Santner off. It was followed by series of bizzarre bowling changes. Nobody knows why Monroe bowled. Actual hero in that partnership was Haris sohail who took on Santner, took on Boult.

I don’t think so. He rode on the momentum that the openers created and India was already on the back-foot. When the time case to accelerate, he perished. I think he did the bare minimum in that innings.

The reason they took santner off was they knew if they got one wicket even 70 was defendable with santners 3 overs remaining. That is why he went off

I really think so. Because we all witnessed what happened when Babar fell in this world cup match against India. Similar platform as that in CT, Pakistan were 120-1 in 23 overs and barely crawled to 200 in the end.

If Babar had not played that innings in CT final, there is a high probability that Pakistan would have collapsed yet again. He played his role perfectly in a pressure game.

I'm talking about batting "off-road"
So on a difficult pitch in a difficult situation.
Smith's came in fairly standard conditions. Very good innings no doubt tho

Biased asf,yeh babar is a goat and chasing mamoth total of odd 240 he shook the world and pak cricket it self ,he is the best there os out there...
Kohli williamson who? They never played important knocks in wc imo when in all last 3 matches india won if it wasnt for kohlis runner ball 60-70 odd innings in 3 consicutive matches, they had lost to afg,wi...but hey babar the conqueror rules with this one inning with having scored 20 odd runs more than poor kohli with one more innings

Why u getting hurt bro.
Such innings are few n far between. The moment there is something In the pitch for the bowlers, you don't see such hundreds chasing.

Babar has silenced lots of idiots after that knock. Long may it continue.

We will have to agree to disagree. As much as I hate to admit it, Azhar was the real star of that innings. Fakhar was his usual flukey self initially, but it was Azhar who took the initiative and put India on the defensive. Fakhar capitalised on it and then later on, the likes of Babar, Hafeez and Imad carried that momentum forward. Had Azhar played his typical innings, Pakistan would have limped to a below par total.

Noone is hurt its just irritating when fans live in fantasy world where thry consider babars 100 bigger than SS 50 in 2015 final ,and say it was off road while in truth opoosition collapsed on 183 ,u cant even imagine pressure aussies would be in chasing...

And then there is downplaying of legends like kohli, williamson who are one of thr most consistent in this worldcup.

Babar indeed played fabulous and it was brilliant 100 chasing but if you are biased it will be called out.
To outsiders it was normal sluggish uae type pitch that india got vs saf and eng got vs sl and you can see asian batsman did well, here it was the case that pak top2 in this wc have been outright poor thats why babar s 100 seemed even better ,if you compare him with harrais sohail you will see its as normal cricket as others played.

Can Babar Azam successfully chase again, in another must win game?

Last century was his first match winning century. It was certainly worth watching.

He played that pace attack really well.

In another must win game, can he stand against a world class spin attack, and successfully chase again.

Or, was it just a fluke.

This thread is undermining Babar's match winning centuries in setting up the score. 8 out of Babar's 10 centuries were match winning ones. Century against NZ was certainly not his first match winning contribution.

Wth like seriously babar ne theka uthaya hua hai this is why Pakistan will never be a big team when the nation puts pressure on a single batsmen to deliver before a ball is even bowled in the match lmao

Lol, don't know why people always tag us as flukers. It's all mamoon bhai fault. Babar century was not fluke. He is very consistent in scoring runs. Yes match winning knocks are not that much but he is learning.

Eh?

Why? Is Babar the only one responsible to score?

The knock he has played already is better than many knocks played by Asian batsmen in the last few World Cups.

I do hope he'll maintain his consistency but don't expect people to score such knocks every match. Nobody does that, not even superhumans.

Yes after getting dropped on 38 it really wasnt fluke

Fans flip flop like a light switch... its been one game. Everyone runs over to post like they are exposing some news...

Kohli lite today. Strike rate in the game miles ahead of his team mates, just like India Vs afghans.
Needed to go on though
