This logic makes no sense. Even if you believed there is a mental block, how do you equate that to his captaincy? Unless he has made terrible decisions one after the other in all these situations there is no correlation.
I attribute Babar's awful record in T20 tournaments (or as a captain generally) to two things - his inept leadership and selfish batting.
1)
Captaincy: Where do you want me to start ?
2021 T20 WC - stubbornly persists with out-of-form Hasan Ali who dropped that vital catch in SF vs AUS. Allows AUS to recover from 96-5 when they were dead and buried.
2022 Asia Cup Final - allows a poor SRL team to recover from 58-5. SRL's win probability was 15% at that stage ! He takes his pacers off despite prodigious early movement and allows Rajapaksa to settle against the spinners, and they recover to post 170 when they shouldn't have crossed 110.
ENG T20 series - kept persisting with Khushdil Shah, Asif Ali and his cousin Usman Qadir who are all pathetic cricketers.
2022 T20 WC - Allows IND to recover from 31-4 and bowls Nawaz in the last over (a self-made problem stemming from not selecting a fourth seamer on a green MCG pitch). In the Final he doesn't promote the LH Nawaz to negate legspin of Adil Rashid. He selects a half-fit Shaheen who eventually broke down.
2)
Selfish batting:
2021 T20 WC SF - scores a criminally slow 39 off 34 on the best Dubai batting surface of the tournament. His SR of 114 was the lowest of any batter who faced 20 balls, and left us 10-20 below par.
2022 Asia Cup - doesn't turn up in the entire tournament, ends up with worse numbers than tailender Shahanwaz Dhani with avg of 11 at SR of 107. Smacks a long hop straight to a fielder in the Final.
ENG T20 series - Failed in the decider and got bullied by Mark Wood in two of the matches.
While we won the
NZ tri-series - it was in spite of Babar. In the Final he scores 15 off 14. It was Nawaz, Haider and Iftikhar who produced blinders.
2022 T20 WC - Averages 16 at SR of 93 in the whole tournament. In the Final he scores a slow 32 off 28 and once again dismissed by a googly.
Would you like any further elaboration ?
