The Pakistan Cricket Board on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of Babar Hamid as their Director-Commercial following a thorough recruitment process.

"In his role with the PCB, Babar Hamid will be responsible for the PCB's growth activities through identification of new commercial and marketing opportunities," PCB said in an official statement.

Hamid is an MBA from the Lahore University of Management Sciences and he has the experience of working in a senior position with Pakistan Super League (PSL) team Islamabad United.

He has also held senior positions with Dynamic Marketing Concepts, Infinity Media Pvt Limited, Sign Source Limited, Tetra Pak Pakistan and The Coca-Cola Company.

Hamid will assume his charge at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore from June 1.

Currently, Ehsan Mani is the current Chairman of the PCB.

Earlier this year, a protest was held outside the PCB headquarters in Lahore, demanding the removal of PCB's Managing Director Wasim Khan.

Protestors from the Cricketers Welfare Association said that Khan's massive salary makes no sense and hence he should be removed from his post.

Moreover, they had also appealed to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to take note of the issue and remove the cricket body's officials who are given excessive salaries.

The agitators also opposed the proposed changes to the country's domestic structure and demanded that the regions should be banned.

Definitely has an impressive CV. I see a more meritorious PCB emerging in a couple of years. This is what happens when you appoint a professional such as Wasim Khan at the top.

It will be fun when or if the mafia who have brought us down to a borderline minnow will be kicked out.

We have been mediocre for good 15 years now with an odd glory here and there.

A lot depends on Wasim Khan - if he fails, Pak cricket is doomed. It will die a slow death over the years. Khan should take security around him because he will make a lot of enemies.

I would like Wasim Khan to appoint a Director for the Pakistan team. An individual who will be responsible for recruiting for the national team selectors, U-19, U-16 and A team selectors, coaches and responsible for the integration of all the stakeholders.

Hold that one individual responsible for the performance of our national team, U16, U-19 and A team similar to how the ECB has done it.

That’s not a bad idea either.

If a combo of Khan-Mani-Khan can’t fix the circus of Pak cricket, then nobody can.

I would also like the PCB to open a school for U-14 and up where kids could learn basic education and also on how to handle media/social media, how to eat, dress and carry themselves and English classes, communication skills etc. Its a must considering the paindoos that have represented the country over the past decade or so.

Awesome!!!!! Keep appointing useless directors, advisors, GMs and so on nothing will happen. Keep feeding these useless appointees and don’t pay players in domestic.

And then we wonders why we lacking behind compare to rest of the world.

Excellent choice. But the Mafia who is opposed to Wasim Khan's appointment, is not going to go down so easily. They will strike back one way or the other.

Unfortunately Pakistan is run by mafia's. Like the petroleum mafia, water mafia, electricity mafia, religious mafia...etc...the list goes on.

Inshallah with competent people like Wasim Khan our thinking as a nation will become progressive in all fields... including cricket.
