Bangladesh ‘A’ and Sri Lanka ‘A’ to tour Pakistan

Lahore, 23 July 2024:

Pakistan Shaheens will play four additional four-day and six 50-over matches this year when Bangladesh ‘A’ and Sri Lanka ‘A’ visit Pakistan in August and November, respectively.

Following the second four-dayer against Bangladesh ‘A’ in Darwin, Australia, which will conclude on 29 July, both Pakistan Shaheens and Bangladesh ‘A’ will go toe-to-toe in two four-dayers from 10-13 August and 17-20 August in Pakistan (Venues TBC). The four-dayers will be followed by three 50-over matches on 23, 25, and 27 August.

In November, Sri Lanka ‘A’ will visit Pakistan for five matches against Pakistan Shaheens. The four-dayers will be played from 11-14 November and 18-21 November, while the 50-over matches will be held on 25, 27, and 29 November. Venues will be announced in due course.

Separately, Pakistan Emerging team will also defend their ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup title in October, while the Pakistan U19 team will feature in an U19 50-over Tri-Nation Tournament and ACC Asia Cup U19 in November/December. The ACC will announce details of the two tournaments in due course.

Good to see some games for the A-team of Pakistan. It was a missing element from Pakistan cricket which has now been taken care of by PCB. Good things need to be appreciated and it is a good step by PCB for the players out there to show some performances that the world can notice.

BCB announce Bangladesh A squads for Pakistan tour​

Bangladesh cricket team is gearing up for an upcoming tour of Pakistan, which includes a two-match Test series. Additionally, the Bangladesh 'A' team is also scheduled to face off against Pakistan Shaheens.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced three distinct squads for the series.

All-rounder Mosaddek Hossain makes his return in the first four-day match squad, which includes players like Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Zakir Hasan, and Anamul Haque Bijoy. National team wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim is also part of this squad, along with Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Rejaur Rahman Raja.

However, these national team players are not included in the squad for the second four-day match. They will be replaced by Saif Hasan, Soumya Sarkar, and Naim Sheikh.

Additionally, Soumya Sarkar, Anamul Haque Bijoy, and Saikat are part of the One Day International (ODI) squad.

The Bangladesh 'A' team will compete in two four-day matches and three ODIs during their tour of Pakistan.

Several national team players will join the 'A' team for their trip to Pakistan on August 6.

The first four-day match begins on August 10, followed by the second on August 17. The three ODIs are scheduled for August 23, 25, and 27.

The Bangladesh ‘A’ men’s cricket team will arrive in Islamabad on Saturday, 10 August, for two four-day and three 50-over matches against Pakistan Shaheens. The matches will be played at the Islamabad Club.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has announced match officials for the Pakistan Shaheens’ home series against Bangladesh ‘A’, which includes two four-day and three 50-over matches from 13-30 August.

Nadeem Arshad will lead the Playing Control Team (PCT) for the 13-16 August and 20-23 August matches, while Iftikhar Ahmed will be the match referee for the three 50-over matches on 26, 28 and 30 August.

The umpiring responsibilities in the five matches will be shared between ICC/PCB International panel Umpires, Faisal Khan Aafreedi and Rashid Riaz, and PCB Elite Panel Umpires, Abdul Moqeet, Imran Jawed, Nasir Hussain, and Waleed Yaqoob.

All the seven officials are part of the PCB Elite Panel of Match Officials.

Have to commend PCB for organizing these A tours. This is what we need to improve our test cricket. Not more domestic competitions. I hope A tours against other countries are also organized in the coming years.

Boards should also look into the idea of A team series between two countries running concurrently with first team series. Kind of how Bangladesh A v Pakistan A is running alongside Pakistan v Bangladesh. I saw that India A v England A was running concurrently to India v England earlier this year. I think this is something that should happen with every test series.

This way players that are in your squad and in the reckoning for national selection get some valuable match practice too instead of just sitting on the sidelines and bringing out the drinks.

Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Haris will lead the side as the selectors have retained 12 players from the Shaheens’ side that recently featured in the two 50-over and Top End T20 series in Darwin, Australia. The retentions are part of the selectors’ philosophy of providing the emerging and domestic performers consistent opportunities to prove their mettle and stake a claim in the senior side.

Apart from skipper Haris, the 12 players who have been retained from the side that toured Darwin, include: Abdul Faseeh, Arafat Minhas, Faisal Akram, Haseebullah, Jahandad Khan, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Muhammad Irfan Khan, Mohammad Imran Jnr, Mubasir Khan, Omair Bin Yousuf, and Usman Khan.

The other two players are left-arm spinner Mehran Mumtaz, who featured in the second four-day match against Bangladesh ‘A’, and left-hand batter Azan Awais, who represented Pakistan U19 team at the ICC Men’s U19 World Cup 2024.

On their recent tour to Darwin, the Pakistan Shaheens white-ball squad led by Mohammad Haris won seven out of nine white-ball games. They beat Northern Territory Strike and Bangladesh ‘A’ in the 50-over matches by four and eight wickets, respectively. Meanwhile, in the nine-team Top End T20 series, the Shaheens topped the table with five wins in six games before falling short in the semi-final.

Jahandad Khan was the pick of the bowlers for Shaheens as he bagged 15 scalps during the white-ball leg while Usman Khan scored 222 runs. Muhammad Irfan Khan smashed a century in the Top End T20 series.

The PCB has confirmed the venue for Sri Lanka A's tour of Pakistan. Pakistan Shaheens and Sri Lanka A will play two four-day matches and three ODIs at Islamabad Club. Lahore, October 27 - The Pakistan Cricket Board has confirmed today that Islamabad Club will host the five-match red and white ball series between Sri Lanka A and Pakistan Shaheens next month.

Sri Lanka A will play two four-day matches from November 11 to 21 in their first tour of Pakistan. This will be followed by a series of three fifty-over ODIs on November 25, 27, and 29. Sri Lanka A will arrive in Islamabad on November 7 and after three days of practice, will compete against the Shaheens in the first four-day match starting on November 11. Both four-day matches will start at 9:30 AM, while the ODIs will begin at 2:00 PM.

The PCB continues to focus on developing the skills of its young cricketers, with the Shaheens playing their second home series in three months. In August, Bangladesh A played a series of two four-day and three one-day matches in Islamabad. Besides this year's home series, the Pakistan Shaheens participated in two four-day matches and two ODIs against Bangladesh A in Darwin, Australia, and also took part in the Top End T20 Series. Recently, they competed in the T20 Emerging Asia Cup in Muscat.

Huraira to lead Pakistan Shaheens against Sri Lanka ‘A’

Mohammad Huraira has been appointed Pakistan Shaheens captain for the two four-day and three 50-over matches against Sri Lanka ’A’ at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium from 11 to 29 November.

22-year-old Mohammad Huraira has scored 3,310 runs in 40 first-class matches with eight centuries and 14 half-centuries. In 25 List-A matches, the right-handed batter has accumulated 632 runs, striking a century and a half-century.

The Men’s National Selection Committee has also named the two squads, which include Test fast bowlers Mohammad Wasim Jnr and Khurram Shahzad. The duo returned to competitive cricket last week by featuring in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy after completing their rehabilitations at the National Cricket Academy.

Hussain Talat is the other international player in the white-ball squad, whereas Muhammad Ghazi Ghori and Ahmed Safi Abdullah have earned their maiden Shaheens call-ups.

In the white-ball squad, Abdul Samad, Haider Ali, Maaz Sadaqat, Mohammad Haris, Mohammad Imran Jnr and Rohail Nazir have retained their places in the side that participated in the ACC Men’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup last month, while Muhammad Imran, Sirajuddin and Ubaid Shah have broken into the Shaheens side for the first time.

The red-ball squad will commence training sessions from 6 November, while Sri Lanka ‘A’ will arrive on 8 November before starting their preparations on 9 November. White-ball players will assemble in Islamabad on 22 November.

Meanwhile, the PCB has also confirmed umpire and match officials for the series. Iqbal Sheikh and Bilal Khilji will lead the Playing Control Team (PCT) for the red and white-ball matches, respectively, while umpiring responsibilities in the series will be shared between Asif Yaqoob, Imran Jawed, Rashid Riaz and Zulfiqar Jan.
