Bangladesh [296, 213] fall 17 runs short as West Indies [409, 117] win thriller and take series 2-0

wow....Windies....2-0...another cracking test match....heartbreak for our bangla bandhus....feel for them....keep strong bros....

Feeling sad for Bangladesh fans. 1-1 would have been a fine result for both teams. Hard fought test match though. Good to see.

Okay this has to go down as one of the ATG series. Two unreal finishes.

Uncapped batsman Finn Allen has been named as a standby in New Zealand's T20I squad for the five-match series against Australia.

Kane Williamson will lead the 13-member squad that features Allen, who finished as the highest run-scorer in the Super Smash, scoring 512 runs at an average of 56.88 and a strike-rate of 194 in the tournament.

"I haven’t seen a young fella, a guy who’s just turned 21, perform like that with so much confidence for a long time," said New Zealand selector Gavin Larsen. "We’ve seen something special. It’s also important not to get too carried away.

"We have a history within selection of being consistent and using our incumbents as much as we can while they’re performing, and having someone like Finn adding to the mix is fantastic."

Allen has been added as a standby in place of Martin Guptill, who is recovering from a hamstring injury. Should Guptill fail to recover in time, Allen will likely replace him at the top in the batting line-up.

Guptill, who totalled just 85 runs in his last five T20I innings, is struggling for form, but has the selector's backing. "We’ve got full faith in Marty. We want him part of the mix, he’s an absolute key component in our T20 squad. We’re going to give him every opportunity to prove his worth. He’s a fine player with a great record.

"He’s short on runs, everyone knows that, but he’s also a very classy player. If he rediscovers his form like we hope and think he will, then he becomes a big part of our medium-term T20 future."

The five-match T20I series will begin with the first match slated to take place at the Hagley Oval, on 22 February.

Squad: Kane Williamson (c), Martin Guptill (pending fitness test), Tim Seifert, Devon Conway, Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, Jimmy Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Kyle Jamieson, Tim Southee, Trent Boult, Hamish Bennett, Finn Allen (standby).

Brilliant from Windies. To win the series 2-0 despite having a depleted side shows their grit, fight and determination. Especially when a full-strength Windies side was beaten here last time.

For Bangladesh, I think they should just do themselves a favor and give up their test status or only play test matches with Ireland and Zimbabwe. I would have added Afghanistan to the list but Afghanistan also beat them.

Also, talk about incompetence. Bangladesh produced a turning track, played three spinners with just a lone seamer and still got outplayed by an inexperienced Windies attack led by Rahkeem Cornwall, who has a grand total of 5 test caps to his name.

DHAKA, Bangladesh – West Indies secured a thrilling victory by 17 runs over Bangladesh on the fourth day of the second and final Test to complete a clean of sweep of the series on Sunday at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium.

Off-spinner Rahkeem Cornwall had an exceptional bowling performance ending with match figures of 9-179 off 62 overs to be named Man-of-the-Match. He also held three sharp catches in the second innings – including the last wicket to seal the historic win.

Cornwall followed his 5-74 in the first innings with 4-105 in the second to bowl Bangladesh out for 213, with the hosts chasing a target of 231. Left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican took 3-47 and skipper Kraigg Brathwaite had 3-25 with his off-breaks as the spinners took all 10 wickets.

Brathwaite said: “It was a total team effort and a fantastic win. It feels great to win the series. We had plans and we came out on top. We are very thankful for the opportunity. I’m, very proud of the team. This will mean a lot to everyone back home.”

Head Coach Phil Simmons was delighted with the performance. “It’s unbelievable … the joy is unbelievable. To come and win back-to-back Test matches is something really great and I’m proud of the way the team played. Kraigg led by example with the way he batted and today he bowled well to get key wickets.”

West Indies won the first Test by three wickets, chasing a huge 395-run target, last Sunday in Chattogram, when Kyle Mayers made 210 not out on debut to seal a memorable win. Nkrumah Bonner, was brilliant in his first and second Test matches and was named Man-of-the-Series. He had scores of 17 and 86 in Chattogram and 90 and 38 in Dhaka.

Simmons added: “Bonner was exceptional. He sat through a few tours and now he got his chance and I’m very happy for him. Cornwall was brilliant again and continues to bowl well and learn and improve his skills. To get nine wickets is truly remakable.”

Congrats to WI team , I am surprised with this result , did not expect Bangladesh to lose at home against a low ranked team like WI , that too in Test matches !!

Well I suppose at least we can now conclude that that Mayers innings was most probably the fluke of the century.

I think Bangladesh got out muscled by the windies, they should invest in a nutritionist and strength&conditioning coach
