What's new

Bangladesh [296, 213] fall 17 runs short as West Indies [409, 117] win thriller and take series 2-0

Bangaldesh need 231 runs to level the series. They have made their way into the Test after conceding 400 in the first innings and on the verge of follow on .

Westindies always giving opportunity to opposition ...they loose from the position they would have won and win from the position when there is no hope. This is westindies cricket for you

Yeah during the first innings. WI were leading by 250 runs with Bangladesh 6 wickets down and from that situation they have lost the advantage to Bangaldesh.

WI win in first Test was a fluke , they are a very poor cricket team at the moment , would be thrashed by Afghans also

Maybe if the pitch has really become difficult to bat, WI bowlers can bowl well and make things difficult for the Bangaldeshi Batsmen. You never know. Anything over 200 in the final innings is still not very easy chase.

The pitch is not that bad , also WI bowling does not look that impactful here

The pitch has become good here ? No I think Bangladesh positive intent has worked in their favour.

I told previously that Shanto is not yet fit for international duty. He is still immature as a batsman @Executionar

This match and the series has been more entertaining than the India England series. Another one down, Bangaldesh in trouble.

Fascinating match.

In the balance at the moment.

BD will lose this. They need a good sports psychologist as it seems they have some mental block.
Also missing Shakib, but one player missing should not impact winning a test at home against a team of full of rookies.

Will umpires offer a few more overs for this game to finish tonight?

Bang should try getting these runs tonight or the bulk of them with the spinners on

Tomorrow Morning the tail will be exposed to the Faster bowlers

It wasn’t a fluke. That particular innings by Mayers was but the overall result wasn’t.

Both are poor Test teams and a series between them will be competitive in any conditions.

Bangladesh no.10 averaging 17

Could be a valuable contribution at this stage

Where is brother MMHS? Have not seen him for a while.

WI win

What a sad day for Bangladesh cricket. Bangladesh should only focus on white ball cricket

Congrats Windies

Bangladesh cant even win at home vs noob team.Sad

Series win for westindies with a 2nd choice 11 away from home.

Bangladesh will be gutted.

Wow what a test match...hope Bangladeshi players and fans won't cry in the ground after this heart break

He saves his visits for long articles on pakistan losses. BD match threads are not important for him to grace with his presence

Remarkable series, its good to see this sort of cricket at test level and hopefully this would rejuvenate the passion in Windies cricketers.

Apparently, WI had thrashed Afg in the test they played last year, same Afg team had humiliated BD in BD

WI win

T20 I think is their weakest format.
They need a facility like the Mrf pace foundation. Go the indian route.

The era of multi million dollar T20 leagues have had the worst effect on Windies of all nations. Yes, they did win 2 WT20 but they have lost a lot more in test cricket and ODIs.

With all the multi million dollar Windies cricketers reaching their retirement ages I just hope the new crop of Windies players focus more on national duties rather than follow their predecessors.

I have hopes from Pooran, Hetmyer, Hope, etc but I want to see them in Windies colors rather than being an asset for some franchise.

Good win for Windies. In the last 6 years , they have managed 5 wins against England, 3 wins against Pakistan.Just about remaining relevant with a few wins in test cricket. Id put them above lanka for now.BD have regressed terribly from the highs of 2016.

2 wins against Pak, can't recall the 3rd.. :misbah Sharjah and Bridgetown?. But England really have struggled against them lately

It is a popular opinion but West Indies cricket has been in steep decline since the mid 90’s. They stopped being good at Test cricket once their players stopped getting County contracts.

The FC system of Caribbean cricket has never been great. Most of their legendary players were developed in County cricket.

Franchise cricket has kept West Indies cricket relevant in the last 10-15 years. They will not become good at Test cricket if they stop playing these leagues.

Most of the players who play there are not good Test cricketers to begin with except Gayle, but he nothing left in the tank and has already played 100+ Tests.

Was a pretty good series, congrats to WI for such a performance with quite a few of their regulars missing.

Wow, what a series! Both Tests were absolute crackers, well done to Windies for holding their nerve.

I remember some guy saying BCB are not as poor as Pakistan in appointing their coaches lol

The last month or so has been extremely difficult for some people I can imagine

This is a new low for Bangladesh cricket.

When they lost to Afghanistan, I thought they can't do worse than this (at home) but nope.... they've outdone themselves. I think they'll lose to even Ireland/Zimbabwe if they're without Shakib.

This is Bangladesh's first whitewash at home since West Indies blanked them 0-2 in 2012/13 (in a series of two or more matches) . This will be Bangladesh's 15th whitewash in a series of two or more matches - eight more than any other team. Zimbabwe have suffered 7 whitewashes in their own turf.

I'm quite confident in saying that Narine and Badree would have been better than Cornwall and Warrican.

But I do agree with you that Windies have the weakest Board amongst all cricket nations. If IPL or franchise cricket existed in 70/80s then we might perhaps not seen Windies lift WCs in that era as I'm sure the legends then would have preferred franchise cricket over their national duty then too.

I'm quite confident in saying that Narine and Badree would have been better than Cornwall and Warrican.

No chance, Narine had an ordinary test career even while he was allowed to chuck indisciminately. Badree never had the patience or fitness to play long-form cricket. Cornwall has the potential to become the best spinner to come out of the West Indies since Lance Gibbs.
