Dhaka: A probe has been launched into allegations by a player that he was asked to fix matches during the latest scandal-hit Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 tournament.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said it would investigate after Rangpur Riders player Jupiter Ghosh alleged Monday that team manager Sanuar Hossain had told him to fix match results just before the start of the tournament earlier this month.

He claims that he was dropped from the team when he refused to comply.

"The BCB is investigating complaints lodged by a cricketer of BPL 2016 franchise Rangpur Riders against an official of the same team," the BCB said.

"The BCB recognises that the allegations and counter allegations brought forward by the player and the official concerned, which includes breach of discipline and corrupt practice, are of serious nature."

The Rangpur Riders expelled Ghosh on disciplinary grounds on Monday after he went public with the allegations.

The BCB has also suspended Ghosh and Hossain from the tournament while the investigation is conducted.

The BPL, modelled on the glitzy and lucrative Indian Cricket League (IPL), has been blighted by fixing rows ever since it began in 2012.
The tournament was suspended for a season in 2014 following revelations that former Bangladesh captain Mohammad Ashraful and four others including New Zealand's Lou Vincent were involved in fixing matches.

Ashraful was banned for eight years after he tearfully confessed on national television, but was allowed to return to domestic cricket earlier this year.

The BCB's anti-corruption officials have also thrown out at least four suspected bookmakers during the previous editions in an effort to ensure the tournament is corruption-free.

Seven franchises are playing in the current edition with several big names in international cricket, including Pakistan's Shahid Afridi, West Indies' Chris Gayle and Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara taking part.

Afridi is leading the beleaguered Rangpur Riders, who currently lie fifth in the points table.

For their own sakes, Afridi and Gayle should not play in this team again as these are serious allegations

This is the biggest problem with these leagues. Too easy to have corrupt people involve and the other players will start getting tainted just because of association even if they do nothing wrong. Hasn't the Rangpur Riders been winning most matches?

It's just an allegation which is hard to believe really.I

haven't even heard the name of this Jupitar Ghosh, such an ordinary player who haven't put up any noticeable performance in domestic league. He now tries to attract the attention of media to get into the limelight after being failed to be included in the playing 11.How the manager of his team who was a former national team batsman will offer fixing to a player who doesn't have the quality to be in playing eleven?

Remember he was asked to fix the match and he didn't do so.

The thing about these leagues is that low profile players are asked to fix matches by someone from outside or even team management(not coaching staff or franchisee)

Not just this league. Players in every league is approached particularly those who are no-named.

This is something beyond the control but kudos to BCB and ICC for being strict against corruption. If these entities had shown tolerance towards fixing this Ghosh guy whom.i never heard of would have engaged in fixing. But its not worth the risk

He's the perfect candidate.

A low-tier player is easier to convince and will do a lot more in such situations. Plus, they'll do it at a lower rate than a high-profile player.

Doesn't mean his allegations are true, but him being an "ordinary player" might further substantiate the story rather than disproving his claims.

have always said this tournament is a joke. Every year they ahve corruption charges against them

Your comment is a joke.

1) there has-been corruption issues only twice. 2013 and this time. In 2013 players actually was involved in fixing. This time there was no fixing, just a player not agreeing to do corruption. One Chris Gayle was asked to fix the match and infact he accepted the gifts sent to.him and later he reported it to others.

Players are asked to fix matches all the time. I find it comical that many fans feel that mediocre domestic players aren't approached enough in these high profile leagues.

2) fixing doesn't mean a league is a joke. It's not organized in a way that players will be approached for fixing internally. Believe me, IPL too had its fair share of fixing saga but the league promotes fair play. Pakistan cricket has been tarnished by fixing charges and speculations since the 90s. But we don't bring it up all the time. Infact the rest of the world has been more open to Amir's return than Pakistan is themselves

What sort of logic is this?

Azharuddin was one of the best batsmen in the world, but he did fixing.

How does honesty have anything to do with playing ability?

It has logic. And your post also supports mine.It does have relation with playing ability.

Let's talk about your own team as an example.Azharuddin,Pravakar,Jadeja these 3 who were alleged in match fixing were all high profile cricketers of the then Indian team, whose performance can change the complexion of the game.I stil remember that Pravakar was dropped just after scoring a century as an opening batsman against touring West Indian team.Because that century was slow enough to cost the match chasing a target which was well within reach of India having wickets in hands.Rumors were spreading that Pravakar took money from fixers. He was opening bowler and an opening bat for India then. Bookies targets these influential cricketers otherwise if they target low profile cricketers, then the best players in the eleven can win the game despite fixing the low profile cricketers.

In this case the Jupitar Ghosh is a rubbish player who will never get into the playing eleven. So why a fixer will contact him to fix a match?

+ Jupitar Ghosh is not even low tier cricketer. He can be called lowest tier cricketer to warm up the bench.

Jupiter Gosh!!!!!! Never ever heard his name!!!! After his allegation, I searched his profile in cricinfo!!!! Also failed to found there!!!!
How can be a player like this can be selected in playing eleven!!! I am regular follower of BD cricket!!! Follow all the games of BD whether it is Internationalss or domestic!!! Never heard his name!!! How it is possible to offer him who can't even imagine to be selected in playing eleven!!!!

Yes this is the biggest problem yet some people have problems with others who dislike these leagues(especially IPL).

so reason was that!! He was caught with girl in Hotels!! Then he was punished by franchise!!! He wants to take revenge by doing fixing drama!!!

Disgusting I can't believe they had females in hotel while they were on international duty

Why should they not? They didn't stop playing in IPL after what went down there. Gayle is 37, he is looking to play for maybe another 5 years. That is about $350,000 that he'd be losing if he stops playing BPL. Shouldn't let one or two incidents cause disruption in an upcoming league.
