Bangladesh tour of New Zealand (2022)

Would be disappointing not to post more than 400 after the start given by Conway and Young.

Bangladeshi seamers greatest opening day overseas, sure we can criticise they should have bowled them out but lets be real, in these conditions away from home do we genuinely expect from BD’s seamers ? not really, this is good stuff from them and their coach Ottis to build on.

Shame on NZ really, no.1 team being pushed by BD at home!

Agreed. In the first hour especially, Bangladesh had the upper hand. In my opinion, yesterday was Bangladesh's greatest ever away day in test cricket. Overall, probably their 2nd greatest after their home win against England.

265/6.

Bangladesh hanging in there, but the true test will be when they have to bat.

265/6.

Bangladesh hanging in there, but the true test will be when they have to bat.

Boult, Jamieson and Southee v BD batters may not make pleasant viewing but if BD come of it well, NZ will still win but have to work for it.

It's clear an extremely average bowler like Shariful is ahead of Mustafizur Rehman as a test bowler. And as test match cricket is the most difficult format, that must mean that the Fizz is now simply a below average bowler. I'm very surprised. I had high hopes for him when he burst on the scene in 2015. I think he has not added to his skillset - just has the legcutter and batsmen have figured it out. A bit like Ajanta Mendis.

I reckon:

NZ 1 st innings 320 all out
BD 1st innings 230 all out
NZ 2nd innings 320-7 declare
BD 2nd innings 155 all out

The lower order can bat a bit so I expect NZ to score 330+.This will be a challenging score for BD.

Ajaz patel being dropped after 10 wickets in an innings is pathetic decision , specially when spinners extracting pretty good turn here

The players are on field , Important session to start , Bangladesh need to survive the new ball

Bangladesh slowly getting runs here , 60 . 1 , the partnership is starting to take shape here

26 runs partnership so far , Bangladesh has done really well so far . This is far more solid batting than they did against Pakistan.

NZ will be well aware that a draw in this test and they can pretty much kiss goodbye to their chances of making the final. As they have more away tests than home ones, they need to make this series count for max points.

These batsmen looked clueless against Shaheen Afridi in friendly conditions yet they are doing better in New Zealand which are much harder conditions to face seam bowling.

Did we underestimate Shaheens spell in Bangladesh?

Fifty runs partnership , they doing well here , if these two bat out the day or major portion of it Bangladesh will be in good position

Good for Bangladesh so far, but still long way to go in this test, one bad session can cost them.

Just 19 overs remaining , Bangladesh need to stay calm here and not throw away this start

Rachin has bowled economical spell but he lacks penetration of a regular spinner , Kiwis need to play Sodhi , I fail to understand how they can leave out sodhi in Test Cricket

175 . 2

That is stumps, Bangladesh will be happy, though they are still 153 runs away from Kiwis total.

Superb effort from Bangladesh, entirely their day.

It should be a very one-sided series. I expect many records to be broken.

1. New Zealand will pick a B side and few of their big players will play.
2. There will be very little interest in the series.
3. It will be an extremely one sided 2-0 win for Kiwis.

Batting on New Zealand pitches is difficult.BD will struggle as other subcontinent teams.BD are used to playing on slow spinning pitches. The bounce and swing will not be easy to handle for BD.

They will get a shock of their lives.

After being traumatised by spin against Pakistan now Bangladesh gets sweet chin music of pace:bond :lillee :cummins

This test series serves no purpose, we all know the result. The only uncertainty is whether BD will able to draw any match with help from rain.

Its too late now but BD should not be included in next cycle of WTC, let them improve their FC circuit before allowing them to play test.

NZ will win at a canter. As I mentioned in another thread, I don't think Bangladesh would beat a Pakistan 3rd team.

(none of these played in the last test for Pak)

2nd 11/3rd 11:

Imam/Hafeez
Fakhar/Zeeshan Ashraf
Saud Shakeel/Shoaib Malik
Haris Sohail/Sohaib Maqsood
Asad Shafiq/Kamran Ghulam
Sarfraz Ahmed/Kamran Akmal
Nawaz/Iftikhar Ahmed
Shadab Khan/Bilal Asif
Naseem Shah/Wahab Riaz
Haris Rauf/Mohammed Abbas
Hasnain/Dhani

Can you honestly say that Bangladesh would beat the Pakistan 3rd team?

Everyone is requested to collect humble pies from bujhee kom bhai. Please wait for your turn patiently as he cooks them hot and ready to serve:yk

Oh dear....why are they fielding. Unless its overcast?

In New Zealand, you always bowl first because the pitch is almost always a green mamba and batting will be the most difficult on day 1, after which it will turn into a road in the remaining days.

Mominul Haque's side provided a stiff challenge for the hosts on day two, claiming 5/70 in the morning session and setting a platform for a strong first innings total.

Bangladesh finished the day 175-2, still 153 runs in arrears of New Zealand's 328.

After the loss of Tom Blundell at the end of day one, Rachin Ravindra walked out with Henry Nicholls resuming on 32*. Ravindra would only spend five overs at the crease, before a tentative press forward brought the end to his stay. Reaching low and forward at third slip, Shadman Islam snapped up the chance for Shoriful Islam's third wicket.

Kyle Jamieson joined Nicholls, and the pair put on a partnership of 32, of which Nicholls contributed 24. Attempting to counter, Jamieson fell for the extra flight of Mehidy Hasan Miraz, holing out to Shadman who was a magnet in the field.

Shadman dropped a chance off No.11 Trent Boult, but made amends almost immediately, taking the catch of Nicholls for 75 to end the innings. Tim Southee and Neil Wagner provided little support for Nicholls earlier, making six and a duck respectively in a disappointing collapse of 5/70 over the course of the morning for the hosts.

Bangladesh were solid in reply with the bat, seeing a tricky period off before lunch, moving to 70/1 by the tea break. Shadman Islam (22) spooned a catch back to Wagner in his follow-through, though the pair of Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Najmul Hossain Shanto dug in for the tourists, putting on 104.

The pair rode their luck with shots hit at catchable height, though the ball evaded New Zealand's awaiting fielders in a frustrating afternoon for the hosts. Not all of New Zealand's bad fortune was out of their control however, with Neil Wagner and his side not referring an lbw decision against Mahmudul that would have been overturned if taken upstairs.

The tourists went unbeaten through the first hour of the day's final session, with Shanto bringing up his second Test half-century with a six over mid-wicket. Mahmudul joined him with a fifty (his first in Test cricket), with the partnership only broken by a smart piece of bowling from Wagner. Working the left-hander over with short-pitched bowling, Wagner pushed his length up, drawing an edge to Will Young.

Mominul Haque entered at No.4 and prevented a late collapse with some mature batting, finishing on 8* after joining Mahmudul to see off the day.

Mahmudul will resume on day three needing 30 runs for his maiden Test century.

What a day for BD!!! Full credit. Bowled and batted superbly and now in a prime position to dictate this test match!

Happy to eat humble pie! Totally unexpected performance from BD and happy to accept I got it completely wrong how this series will play out!!

I think Bangaldesh's problem of late has been a combination of expectations at home (expected to thrash Afghanistan at home) and also misreading their own conditions (picking 4 spinners vs Windies on a pitch that didn't end up turning all that much). That and the fact that one or more of the Big 3 are missing every game.

They are competing well here because for the firt time in SEVERAL years, each member of the XI is there on some sort of merit.

Mamudul Hasan has given a lot of Joy to the Bangladeshi fans.

Very important to continue in same manner next morning, you don't want 250 all out from here, but some 500+ score In sha Allah.

You are eating the pie too soon. Wana bet NZ will still take the first innings lead?

If Bangladesh can get level parity from here on 1st inns that would be some effort.

Joy was a part of the U-19 team that won the U-19 title last time.

Good to see him in the national side.

Good day for Bangladesh.

As long as Bangladesh concentrate, they will win this Test.

New Zealand left-arm pacer Neil Wagner credited Bangladesh batters for showing patience and show a fight replying to the home team’s first innings on day two of the ongoing Test at Mount Maunganui on Sunday.

Bangladesh on the day first restricted the Kiwis to 328, courtesy to the paceman Shoriful Islam, spinners in Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mominul Haque, and then posted 175 runs losing two wickets in 67 overs.

In reply, young opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy, playing his second Test for Bangladesh, guided the innings with an unbeaten 70 off 211 balls while Najmul Hossain Shanto before falling to Wagner added 64 to the board.

The Bangladesh batters are applauded for being able to sustain the New Zealand attack on difficult conditions. Joy emerged as the only Bangladesh opener to face more than 200 deliveries in New Zealand in a Test and the first opener in the world since 2019.

“Full credit to the Bangladesh batsmen. They played really well. They showed a lot of patience. They showed a bit of fight. It is a tough graft out there. It is just a good days’ hard and tough Test cricket. I think we fought really hard, but couldn’t really string together enough to create pressure from both ends. Everyone tried really hard but it wasn’t to be our day. But it is Test cricket: we have an opportunity tomorrow to fight harder, and get early wickets,” said Wagner to the media on Sunday.

“The younger guys [Bangladesh batters] today [Sunday] played phenomenally. I thought they played patiently. They didn’t really give too many opportunities. They hung in there. They were prepared to dig in. They left the ball quite a lot. It made us ask more questions, and take wickets. It gave them the opportunity to score. I thought that they played really well. Full credit to them. I thought when the ball was there to be scored, they scored. They also left well and defended well,” the New Zealand bowler added.

Credit where it's due to Bangladesh for their efforts so far in this Test.

The problem they've had though is they quite often implode in their 2nd innings. Let's see how this goes.

Bangladesh have played better than expected.I was expecting NZ to bowl out BD cheaply.

Bangladesh feeling they are in with a great chance

BD needs to sustain good performance for a couple of days. They have a habit of imploding. It won't surprise me to see them imploding tomorrow or in the second inning.

Shakib al Hasan should be given pelters by Bangladesh fans and media for skipping this tour, left his side high and dry for such a difficult series.

That is what I fear. Bangladesh has done it several times in the past. I am still not hopeful. Tomorrow is the most vital day

Bangladesh feeling they are in with a great chance

He should be in New Zealand fighting for the cause not sat on social media and watching the game at home.

Not a good start to the day for the tourists. 3rd wicket down.

Time for Litton to dig in and go big.
I always admired his stylish batting, especially his Asia cup 2018 100 against us.
Even in the day night test in calcutta he hit a few boundaries after being struck on the head.
Trouble is he is BD's KL, good in patches and looks a million dollars when on song but has concentration or intensity lapses and gets out chasing a wide one.

Most Bangladesh batsmen over the years have been like this , inconsistent .
