Bangladesh tour of New Zealand (2022)

Liton Das (86) and Mominul Haq's (88) century stand put Bangladesh in control. They were 401/6 at the end of day three with a first-innings lead of 73.

In a slow-moving first session, Bangladesh managed to add just 45 runs for the loss of two wickets, still 108 runs behind.

Neil Wagner grabbed the crucial wicket of Mahmudul Hasan Joy in the third over of the day with Henry Nicholls snaffling a sharp catch at gully. Joy went for a hard-fought 78 off 228 deliveries.

New Zealand bowlers were relentless, chipping at Bangladesh's resistance. Kyle Jamieson almost got the fourth wicket but ended up dropping Mominul Haque off his own bowling for 8. Mominul had another reprieve when he edged one to the keeper off Wagner's bowling six overs later but it was ruled as a no-ball.

Mominul survived but his partner Mushfiqur Rahim (12) was soon knocked over by Trent Boult. Liton Das, walked in just a few overs before the lunch break.

While New Zealand did well to maintain the pressure in the first session, the momentum shifted in the second with Liton and Mominul going strong. Liton was the aggressor, hitting a flurry of fours and even inspired Mominul to break the shackles as well. Jamieson and Wagner, in particular, bore the brunt of this assault.

The host bowlers were left frustrated as the duo added 87 runs before tea break without losing a wicket and trailing by only 21 runs.

Bangladesh continued from where they had left off and pressed on in the first hour after tea to push past New Zealand's first-innings total. Both batsmen looked set and moving towards their respective centuries as they negotiated the New Zealand pace threat.

Things turned around after the drinks break when Trent Boult was introduced into the attack. He immediately trapped Mominul in front for 88 after the batter reviewed unsuccessfully. The big 108-run stand was finally broken. One brought two as Boult scalped Liton next, who also missed out on a hundred.

Yasir Ali (11*) and Mehidy Hasan (20*) negotiated the remaining overs in the day without further hiccups as Bangladesh ended day three on 401/6, sitting pretty on a solid lead of 73.

Well done to Bangladesh for not just competing but getting their noses in front. Flat pitch or not, taking on the NZ seam quartet in their own backyard hasn't been easy for many sides.

BD are trailing by 73 runs.

This is probably the last capable pair. Tail starts after this wicket and they can hardly bat.

Need to get a lead of 100 runs minimum.

Squeeze out another 75, lead by nearly 150 and then who knows.

Great stuff from Bangladesh.

88 runs lead so far , what Bangladesh would hope is such turn in the pitch. That will make this 100 runs lead a big one.

Brilliant so far today.

Lead over 100 now.

A 200 run lead is on for sure! Bangladesh should not lose this Test

Bangladesh should bat until tea (if possible). They should have a lead of around 160-180 runs by then.

Bangladesh - 441/6 (170 overs).

BD lead by 113 runs.

First hour is done. Drinks break.

Bangladesh tail isn't very good. They should start hitting now.

Quickfire 30-40 runs can be handy.

I think there are two results possible now , Bangladesh win or Draw

They have to go for the kill. Sledging, staring whatever it takes. Just upset them. This is a priceless opportunity. I know batting gets easier in NZ on last day. Still they should give their best. Why is Shakib in the side?

New Zealand should wrap this up quickly now. BD tail is very weak.

They should start slogging now.

I don't understand what Bangladesh achieved by batting so negatively. They were in a strong position and rather than Batting aggressively and taking the attack to the opposition they batted negatively and at a slow pace. Rr at 2.70ish After 175 overs!. Teams normally put their foot down and take advantage of the tiring Bowlers of the opposition. Now what should have been a 200 plus lead will be less than 150

Past experience? They made 596 in NZ and went on to lose the Test. So they probably want to put themselves in an unlosable situation and go all out.

It looks like a draw here, but a few early wickets may make it interesting.

Bangers have put themselves in a strong position. Well bowled and excellent batting across the team.

The problem in the past for Bangers has been backing it up and following with another strong performance 2nd innings to drive the win home.

Can their bowlers repeat the effort?

But then again being 6 down with a lead of 100 and 400 plus on the board should give most teams the license to place aggressively and go all out. As they didnt get anywhere with mainly batting time

This test has draw written all over it now. BD is going for a draw which is understandable. I wish NZ showed more balls and tried to make a match out of it. They are the test world champs. They should not look for draw against the likes of BD

I think Kiwis may set a target of around 200 in 60 overs.

Bangladesh can still lose this game.

It will take a big effort from kiwis to win from this stage. Bangla need to probably there worst cricket to lose from here

Get three more wickets in next session before lead is level than Bangladesh can win this game .140/5 I want NZ score at stumps . Then take 3-4 wickets in 1st session on day 5 , maximum target can NZ set for Bangladesh is around 100 which is easy to chase . come on Bangladesh you can do this :najam

Well bangla is well capable of that..if I am NZ captain I will give my bowlers 50 overs at least to bowl BD out. 150 to get in 50 overs will be interesting to see..don't think bangla will go for a win in that stage

Bangla need their spinners to bowl well here , if they want to win , but its not going to be easy

tomorrow will be a very interesting day, I think NZ will go after the ball in first session and then try to get BD out in last two sessions

my Money is still on either NZ win or draw..55% NZ winning and 45% draw, regardless draw will be a huge achievement for BD, its really sad when you have to say draw is a huge achievement for a team who has been playing cricket at top level for 20+ years

Bangladesh have botched it up. Whatever little chance they had (of a win) is probably now gone.

Best they can hope for now is a draw.

ONe more wicket pls before stumps .
