South Africa won the first Champions Trophy (1998).

But, I agree that they could've won more. They should've won 1999 World Cup and also 2009 World T20.
 
Apparently Athar Ali khan made a statement along the lines of BD being the best team in Asia because they beat NZ in NZ as no Asian team has done so in a decade, and they beat SA in SA who whitewashed India.

If the day ever comes when they truly are the No.1 ranked Test and ODI side, I’m pretty sure they will consider themselves the greatest team in cricket history!
 
After 1st ODI win, Mehidy was saying he wanted to win Asia Cup and World Cup.

There's nothing wrong with ambition but these things shouldn't be expressed publicly. Also, goals have to be gradual and realistic.

These stuffs make me cringe also. It makes sensible Bangladeshi fans look bad.

I think there's too much emphasize on chest thumping and less emphasize on actual improvement.

Ramiz isn’t patriotic and a blind supporter of his team like this guy. Athar sincerely loves Bangladesh cricket which at times makes him say extremely stupid things.

Ramiz has always been a troll towards Pakistan in the commentary box

I will always respect Bangladesh cricket
Any accomplishment they will ever make I think will always have excuses made for it, because they forever etched into the consciousness as ‘minnows’. There is clearly an undying, passionate love for cricket there- and winning a test match in New Zealand or an ODI in in South Africa is no joke for an Asian side

Bangladeshis have always been good fielders too, you just have to give credit where credit is due

Based not just on this game but also G1, Fizz has lost his natural shape in the air. He is not the same bowler without that subtle shape. When he was at his absolute peak in 2015-17, he got good shape in the air to the RH inparticular. This is a major worry.

Rabada, De Kock star in series-levelling win for South Africa


South Africa climbed to the No.9 spot in the CWCSL table as they cruised to a win over Bangladesh in the second ODI by seven wickets at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg to force a series decider.

Quinton de Kock got South Africa off to a flying start in their chase of 195 to win, smashing a fifty in just 26 balls to kill the game off in the Powerplay. Once he was dismissed, Kyle Verreynne took over the mantle of the innings and finished with an unbeaten half-century as the Proteas levelled the series 1-1.

The victory helped South Africa jump a spot in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League table where they now occupy the ninth spot with 49 points. Bangladesh still remain on top with 110 points.

Earlier in the day, Kagiso Rabada ran through the Bangladesh batting order, getting wickets upfront and in the death to complete his second ODI five-for. His fiery spell restricted Bangladesh to just 194/9 in their 50 overs.

Needing to win the game to level the series, South Africa rang in three changes to the side that lost the first ODI. Quinton de Kock, Wayne Parnell and Tabraiz Shamsi were drafted into the playing XI for Aiden Markram, Marco Jansen and Andile Phehlukwayo. Bangladesh remained unchanged.

After winning and choosing to bowl first, Bangladesh found themselves in a lot of trouble early on. In hot and sunny conditions in Johannesburg, South African pacers showed some fire of their own in the early exchange. Both Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada extracted some extra bounce off the surface to trouble the batters. In consecutive overs, they got the prized scalps of Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan respectively.

Rabada used the short ball effectively in his extended opening spell of seven overs and reaped rewards with the wickets of Liton Das and Yasir Shah. Parnell, playing just his second ODI since 2017, struck in his second over to trap Mushfiqur Rahim leg before wicket, leaving Bangladesh reeling at 34/5.

Staring down the barrel at this point, Bangladesh needed somebody to stand up and Afif Hossain answered the call. He smashed Rabada for two boundaries in the same over to make his intentions clear. At the other end, he had the experienced Mahmud Ullah, who was happy to play second fiddle initially before teeing off himself.

Both batters looked set and even brought up their 50-run stand before Mahmud Ullah fell for the leg-slip trap set by Tabraiz Shamsi. Hossain got a reprieve in the very next over as Keshav Maharaj dropped a return catch and he made full use of the lifeline, bringing up his second half-century in ODIs.

At the other end, Mehidy Hasan Miraz was striking the ball well and together, they stitched an 86-run stand for the seventh wicket. Rabada, bowling his last overs, snared both the batters to complete his five-for. Bangladesh finished the innings at a respectable 194/9.

In reply, the returning De Kock looked in a hurry to finish the game. After a quiet first three overs, he smashed two fours and a six off Taskin Ahmed to get the ball rolling. The introduction of spin didn't slow him down as he raced off to his 28th ODI fifty off just 26 in the 8th over.

There was finally some respite for Bangladesh as Mehidy Hasan Miraz broke the opening stand in the 13th over by getting rid of Janneman Malan. Quinton de Kock followed his fellow opener back to the pavilion a few overs later, courtesy of a brilliant boundary catch by Afif Hossain.

With South Africa still 101 runs away from a win, Bangladesh smelled blood but Temba Bavuma and Kyle Verreynne batted smartly to ensure more wickets don't fall. Both the batters took a liking to the pace of Taskin Ahmed, smashing him for two sixes and two fours in consecutive overs.

Afif Hossain's brilliant day in the field continued as he scalped Bavuma but it was all too late in the end. Verreynne brought up his fourth ODI fifty and along with Rassie van der Dussen, took the Proteas to a win with seven wickets and 76 balls to spare.

The weakest are always the loudest, that's the thing about this.

Inferiority complex, I'm sure you've heard of it, It works like that everywhere, so to put the blame on Bangladesh specifically is not right.

Their neighbors are Pakistan and India, the top dogs.

Afghanistan behaves the exact same way, the inferiority complex is real, no one's fault really, just do your best to grow as a country and maybe that thought of being inferior will one day go away on it's own.
 
Both South Africa and Bangladesh will back themselves to win the series and gain some valuable ICC Cricket World Cup Super League points as the action moves back to Centurion for the decider.

After succumbing to a loss in the first ODI in Centurion, South Africa showcased the might of their pace attack in much more favourable conditions at the Wanderers.

They rang the changes with the likes of Quinton de Kock, Wayne Parnell and Tabraiz Shamsi coming in to bolster their ranks, and the return of the mercurial wicketkeeper certainly made an impact, as he put the Bangladesh attack to the sword.

Kyle Verreynne's assured knock at No.3 will also give the team management a lot of confidence. The Proteas are highly unlikely to tamper with a winning combination, with the series on the line and crucial CWCSL points at stake.

Bangladesh will find solace in returning to Centurion, where conditions will be much more favourable in terms of their team combination.

Shakib Al Hasan staying to play the final match will also come as a major boost, after his wonderful showing at the same venue in the first contest, when the Tigers picked up their first-ever ODI win on South African soil.

The visitors will back themselves to replicate a similar performance to the first ODI despite their struggles with the bat in Johannesburg, making the final match a potential nail-biter.

Remember the last time

Put into bat first on a tricky pitch, Bangladesh were all at sea against the pace of Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi. They were reduced to 34/5 and even reaching the three-figure mark was looking uncertain at one point.

But the Bangladeshi lower-order mounted a remarkable fightback to bat out the 50 overs. Afif Hossain scored a resilient 72 as the visitors posted a score of 194/9 on the board, with Rabada notching up the second five-wicket haul of his ODI career, ending with figures of 5/39.

In reply, Quinton de Kock was in a hurry, taking the attack to the Bangladesh pacers. Playing some scintillating shots, the wicketkeeper-batter brought up his 28th ODI half-century in only 26 deliveries.

After South Africa lost De Kock as well as his opening partner Janneman Malan, Kyle Verreynne and skipper Temba Bavuma would then tick things over nicely for the hosts with an 82-run stand.

Bavuma would depart for 37, but the job was done as the Proteas won by seven wickets, to level the series 1-1.

Temba Bavuma (South Africa captain): "Resilience is obviously a big thing for us, in saying that we want to start the series well. It is never ideal going down in the first game and always kind of claw your way back into the series.

"Whether it's us kind of easing our way into a series, or lack of match intensity I'm not sure, but it's not something we plan on doing. There are still areas we would like to improve on but we will take whatever momentum we have achieved in this victory."

Tamim Iqbal (Bangladesh captain): "Positive signs but hard to describe a game like this (the second ODI). I can blame the wicket and this and that, but at the end of the day, we have to take the blame.

"We all know, he will come out and take some chances [on De Kock], some days it will go with him. Some days it won't. If you are chasing 250 and if he plays some shots and gets out, we will be very happy."

But, they have a good bowling attack and they can still win.

BD are favorites now though.
 
Golden opportunity for Bangladesh to win an away ODI series in a SENA country. I don't think they have won one before.
 
Last time Taskin Ahmed took a 5fer Stuart Binny took 6/4 and BD got rolled over for 50 runs. BD will be all out under 100 here. Tough pitch for youngster cricketers, Taskin should be sent for IPL instead of meaningless test matches. Lucknow needs Taskin.

This is not a tough pitch. It is a batting pitch. South Africa simply played poorly.

But, I agree with you that Bangladesh can get bowled out for 100 even on a flat pitch.
 
Any idea when Bangladesh is touring Australia & England next ? I really don't want Aug-Sep top end (Darwin) out of cricket season tour of Australia. Australia should play Bangladesh during their regular cricket season.

Need to drop Mustafiz he hardly picks up any crucial wickets, bring another pacer from shoriful's batch.

Also drop Riyad for someone new. Need to get rid of dead weight players.

To be honest Bangladesh surprised me a lot. They won it fair and square.
Tamim did good with captaincy.

South Africa are much weaker now compared to before. Ireland also beat South Africa in a game recently but the game took place in Ireland.
 
At last a series win in SENA. Huge achievement for us. Nobody yes nobody expected it to happen. But the players did believe that they could do it. Plus there was no pressure on them. On the contrary SA was in immense pressure going into the 3rdODI. That worked wonderfully in favor of us Congratulations boys for a win on SA soil against a full strength SA team. A win in NZ , a series win in SA. We are not home track bully anymore ,we can believe in ourselves. Feeling so happy.
