What's new

Bangladesh tour of Sri Lanka (2025)

Another wicket. SL lost 3 quick wickets.

SL - 471/9.

Trailing by 24 runs.

Spinner Naeem took 4 wickets so far.

SL are all-out for 485.

BD take a 10 runs lead.

Spinner Naeem takes a 5-fer.

Innings break.

BD lose their first wicket.

BD - 24/1.

Leading by 34 runs.

I think they need to give a target of 250 minimum. 300 would be great.

Hasan Mahmud is the only BD pacer to have sub 30 bowling average. He should do well in SENA conditions.

It should be a draw, unless one of the teams collapse badly.

Pitch still seems quite flat.

Bangladesh are leading by 187 runs. I think they should declare once lead becomes 300. Give SL 300 to chase in 50 overs. :inti

BD need to play like T20 and still try to push for a win. Give target of 350+ with 60 overs to play.

TWIN HUNDREDS FOR SHANTO!
The Bangladesh skipper follows his first innings ton with another in the second

Awful cricket , then it Bangladesh, to be expected...poor poor poor cricketing nation, players and supporters

Shanto juat scored a solid hundred on a pitch no different then what Ramiz was curating during flat track era.

I told you @Mamoon

Shanto and rizwan are similar as players

Bangladesh batters with two hundreds in the same Test:

1) Mominul Haque (vs SL, 2018)
2) Najmul Hossain Shanto (vs AFG, 2023)
3) Najmul Hossain Shanto (vs SL, 2025)

The first Test match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh ends in a draw.

Sri Lanka 485 (Nissanka 187, Kamindu 87, Nayeem 5-121, Mahmud 3-74) and 72 for 4 (Nissanka 24, Taijul 3-23, Nayeem 1-29) drew with Bangladesh 495 (Mushfiqur 163, Shanto 148, Litton 90, Asitha 4-86, M Rathnayake 3-39) and 285 for 6 decl (Shanto 125*, Shadman 76, Rahim 49, T Rathnayake 3-102)

More and more reason why there should be a 2 tier in test cricket. This is a great example of when both teams are of similar skills/level playing the highest format of cricket, would benefit by playing matches like this instead of getting blowed away in a test match most of the time.

Sri Lanka is still vastly superior team than BD in Tests. However, BD test team is slowly improving which is why their LOI form has gone downhill. Managing three formats is way too much work BCB.

Hasan Mahmud has bowling average of 30 after 22innings, but is no where to be found in ranking. These ICC ranking system is completely whack.

Average of 30 isn't that extraordinary. It is an okay average. Most bowlers have averages in the 30s.

Hassan Mahmud is ranked #60 in Test currently.

From Bangladesh, Taijul Islam ranks the highest. He is at #16.

Here is the list: https://www.icc-cricket.com/rankings/bowling/mens/test.

yeah, and Brydon Carse and Gus Atkinson are ranked way above after just few innings. I think it takes into consideration that BD is a weak test country, so even if it has one or two good bowlers/batsmen they will always rank low.

Atkinson has 55 Test wickets in 12 Tests. Average of 22.

Carse has 27 Test wickets after 5 Tests. Average of 19.

Hassan Mahmud has 34 wickets after 12 Tests. Average of 30.41.

Atkinson and Carse deserve to rank higher based on these stats.

I think Test ranking system is fine. T20 ranking system is a joke. Then again, T20 is not real cricket. :inti

I mean how many countries are even playing barely 9 or 10 look at football almost 200 countries yet we are talking about 2 tier in tests doesn't make any sense just 9 countries play tests yet we want to go for 2 tier who will play cricket then lol just Only 9 test nations its a joke

Agree.

Cricket simply doesn't have enough teams to warrant a 2-tier system.

Even if there is a 2-tier system, a heavyweight team may slip to the 2nd tier. India, for example, is at #4 in Test currently. If they lose against England, they can become #5. A few more losses and they can end up #6 or #7.

More chances of Banglas getting better at cricket than what the above poster is praying for..

If any format needs to be killed off, it's test cricket. It does nothing to promote cricket in general. Matter of fact, it creates even more divisions within the test nations. About 4-5 team plays proper test cricket, rest does not.

If you remove Test from cricket, cricket can no longer remain cricket. Test is the ultimate cricket format.

Test cricket has a legacy that goes back to 1772 (first ever FC) --> https://www.espncricinfo.com/series...hampshire-xi-vs-england-532814/full-scorecard.

The beautiful thing about it is that it does not matter what ICC wants, nor does it matter what you and I want. The market decides at the end of the day. The way things are going, test cricket is pretty much on the negative end of it.

You probably noticed that more players are calling it a quit from Test (and international cricket) to focus on white ball cricket and T20 leagues around the world because that's where the money is. that's where the interest is. The next gen will decide what type of cricket they want to play and consume. WI's players are a prime example of what happens when you don't give two flying pidgeon about test cricket and mainly focus on white ball cricket.

1st test ended in a draw. It was always on the cards. I think Sri Lanka should play to their strength. They did so by making spin-friendly tracks.

squad of 18 for a Home Test
Poor weather forecast it seems . Any SL fans here ?

2nd Test is in Colombo (SSC).

If I am not wrong, this ground also has a very flat pitch. Many high scoring games happened here.

We may see another draw.

Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh, 2nd Test:

Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat

BAN 44/2 atm

BD - 88/4 (32.1 overs).

Forecast is showing rain for all 5 days. Another draw is a possibility.

Honestly a poor series. But lol Bangladesh ahead of India in the points table :virat

A much better 2nd test after the snoozefest that was the 1st game. Its a shame that this test match clashes with my work timings + squash training times and I typically miss 4 to 5 hrs of it.

However the 1st test was awful, I am glad I couldnt watch it.

This pitch seems a bit spicier than 1st Test's pitch. But, it is not as bad as 244/9. BD batted poorly.

SL also dropped 5-6 catches.

Lol then its good that I skipped out.

Honestly I dont understand why pitch quality is deteriorating in every country.

India went for dustbowls, Pakistan followed suite. Wi pitches are horrible, I dont think anyone bothered to even curate it.

It seems England have the best pitches, followed by Aus and then NZ. Every other pitch is pretty bad.

SA is inconsistent. Some pitches are good, and some bad.

Agree.

I also think England have the best pitches. Best stadiums and best crowds also.

I always enjoy cricket hosted in UK (particularly ICC events).

You also have to give credit to team england as well.

Its not just their pitches but their play style. They force sides to adopt a very fast approach in test and play test cricket in a similar fashion to odi.

The pitches aren't spicy, their very batting friendly. Infact games held in england wouldn't be interesting as they would lead to draws on most occasions.

Its just england that outright forces a result and forces batting sides to hustle and hustle. This also gets wickets as batters are playing at a fast pace knowing full well england are just waiting to tonk 500 to 700 in a day

Ebadot is trundling now, lol. Whatever pace he used to have is gone .

Nahid Raba's pace is useless as he averages 42 with the ball.

SL are looking good for a big win here, unless BD bat really well in 3rd innings.

There is rain in the forecast too. Wouldn't be surprised if rain causes a draw.

Innings defeat loading for Bangladesh... trailing by 180 runs and 1 down already

I don't understand why Bangladesh even plays cricket anymore? Im not talking about their trophy cabinet as even Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan doesnt win Jack.

But with Pakistan and Afghanistan you can tell that they are trying their level best and still keep the crowd entertained through their antics.

Bangladesh despite having a popular fan Base looks as if their just their to get paychecks and pass the time.

All their players seem disinterested and hardly care about anything, this isnt a team, this is clinical depression 😭😭.

Even vs Pakistan in the test series, they won, but you could tell they had no intention of actually winning.

In the 1st test they were wasting time. If they had it their way, they would bat forever but Pakistan forced an all out situation in the first test.

I believe only Liton das and rana were switched on in that series. Everyone else was passing the time but due to pk being rub ish they managed to win.

Bangladesh’s Taijul Islam has etched his name among the top left-arm spinners in Test cricket history with 18 five-wicket hauls. Here's a look at the top five left-arm spinners with the most five-fors in Test matches:

  • 🇱🇰 Rangana Herath – 34 five-wicket hauls (433 wickets in 93 matches)
  • 🇳🇿 Daniel Vettori – 20 five-wicket hauls (362 wickets in 113 matches)
  • 🇧🇩 Shakib Al Hasan – 19 five-wicket hauls (246 wickets in 71 matches)
  • 🇧🇩 Taijul Islam – 18 five-wicket hauls (237 wickets in 55 matches)
  • 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Derek Underwood – 17 five-wicket hauls (297 wickets in 86 matches)
