Sri Lanka crushed Bangladesh by an innings and 78 runs, sealing the Test series 1-0 and grabbing key World Test Championship points. Pathum Nissanka's commanding 158 earned him both Player of the Match and Series honors, backing up his 187 in the first Test.

After piling up 458 in their only innings—with major contributions from Nissanka, Chandimal (93), and Kusal Mendis (84)—Sri Lanka's bowlers took over. Bangladesh folded for 247 and 133, crumbling in just 28 minutes on the fourth morning. Prabath Jayasuriya stole the show in the second innings with figures of 5 for 56, supported by sharp glove work from Kusal and effective spin from Tharindu and Dhananjaya.

Despite Taijul Islam’s five-for earlier, Bangladesh's lack of fight with the bat and undisciplined bowling in the first innings put them too far behind. It marked Sri Lanka’s ninth innings victory over their subcontinental rivals—a statement win led by both bat and spin.

21-1 to Sri Lanka in this supposed rivalry.

SL need better rivals than this completely talentless cricketing nation .

Why Bangldesh is still playing Test Cricket? What is ICC trying to achieve here? 1 Win 21 Loss 6 Draw against Sri Lanka. That's terrible.

Also, the ODI series should convert into 5 series T20s. No one cares about ODIs anymore.

Many still care about ODI. ODI is much better than T20.

I personally think T20 is junk. I prefer ODI more. :inti

Every Test nation, including Bangladesh, has earned its place through passion and commitment

Not every team starts strong or has resources/backing like big teams, but the format exists to give all cricketing nations a fair shot to grow, compete, and inspire.

I love how their is zero interest for this series after the 2 joke test matches lol

Sri Lanka 56/3. Are we in again for 220 kind of pitches where winning toss and batting first will decide?.Both india and Aus lost all the matches chasing. Lanka should get away from this kind of lottery pitches in limited formats atleast.

SL - 244-all out.
BD - 25/0 (3.5 overs).

Can BD win this? They are in a good position. :inti

Looks like Bangladesh is in full transition to a new team with new players now. None of the Shakib/Tamim/Etc are playing anymore? Thought Shakib was still not retired

BD - 96/1 (16 overs).

149 to win from 34 overs.

Tanzim is on 58*. Can he score his maiden ODI century?

Yes. Oldies are gone from LOI teams.

Only Mushfiq still plays and he plays Test only.

BD lose their 2nd wicket. Shanto departs.

BD - 100/2 (16.3 overs).

Drinks break.

145 to win from 33.3 overs.

Talentless and brainless shanto runs himself out.

Typical Bangladeshi player.

Talentless Bangladesh now 5 down. Useless Towhid bowled through the gate .

Looks like Towhid, Tanzid are not even good enough to choke like their seniors. Just getting beaten and swept aside with ease :inti

LOL. What is going on? I went to toilet and they went from 101/3 to 103/5. :inti

BD - 103/5 (19 overs).

142 to win from 31 overs.

Mehidy won't even be selected in street teams in other countries. Gone lbw and wastes a review as well.

World Cup qualifiers beckon Bangladesh

I called it correctly :yk

Retarded Shanto started this collapse. He was running like a lunatic. There was no need to take any risk as Bangladesh were cruising (RRR was less than 4.5).

Drop Shanto. :inti

100 /1 to 105/8. More dramatic and pathetic collapse than India against Sri Lanka in 96 semis.

Now that BD is collapsing, all the sanghi posters are back. LMAO. :qdkcheeky

They were quiet all day.

Most of us didnt even knew this series is going on. I just went to cricbuzz to check the score after reading this thread.

People have better job to do that watch a bonafide minnow team getting humiliated as usual

:dw

Jezz ... BD will be BD. Not to long ago, I saw the score was around 100 ish for 2 and now almost allout for 5 runs lmaoo ...

I am yet to witness a BD player retire with dignity from the field. Almost all of their retirement I saw was from cricinfo telling us they retired and announced it on social media or the media itself. This is such a wrong thing to do to a player who played for 20 ish years.

You are right.

They should've retired after an ODI series against Zimbabwe probably. Retiring on a high.

Bangladesh appeared poised for a comfortable chase of Sri Lanka’s 244 after reaching 100-1 in just 16.2 overs. However, what followed was one of the most shocking collapses in ODI history, as they crumbled to 105-7 within the next 4.3 overs, losing six wickets for just five runs. The image captures the dejection of a Bangladeshi batter walking off the field, symbolizing the team’s stunning downfall. This collapse is now recorded as the second-worst in ODI cricket

Think there something funny about this whole thing.

the ICC corruption team should investigate

Asalanka century negated by Taskin four-for as Bangladesh knock SL out for 244

Charith Asalanka played a lone hand to drag Sri Lanka to 244 before they were all out in 49.2 overs in the first ODI against Bangladesh. The Sri Lankan captain reached his fifth ODI century, his second against these opponents, but the rest of the batters couldn't quite support him with a substantial score or a 100-plus partnership.

Bangladesh would be confident chasing the 245-run target after their bowlers kept them in the game with a disciplined effort. Taskin Ahmed, returning to competitive cricket after three months, was the best bowler on show, with his four-wicket haul which included two maidens.

Asalanka fell in the last over of the innings, having made 106 off 123 balls, including six fours and four sixes. He crossed 1,000 runs at the R Premadasa Stadium where he stands level with Sanath Jayasuriya, Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar after scoring his fourth century at the venue.

Taskin's verve made sure that Bangladesh got off to a strong start with the new ball, reducing Sri Lanka to 29 for 3 in the seventh over. Pathum Nissanka, who was in great form in the Tests, fell to a wayward drive against Tanzim Hasan Sakib, before Nishan Madushka dragged Taskin's outswinger on to his stumps.

Kamindu Mendis then fell trying to drive Taskin, for a duck. Kusal Mendis and Asalanka added 60 runs for the fourth wicket, with Mendis dominating proceedings. He struck six fours and a six in his 45, before he fell lbw to the newcomer Tanvir Islam. The dismissal was confirmed on the umpire's call upon review by Mendis.

Asalanka added 64 more runs for the fifth wicket with Janith Liyanage, who contributed 29 off 40 balls. He struck some attractive shots but fell to the part-timer Najmul Hossain Shanto in the 32nd over.

Asalanka though forged along, hitting some nice shots but mostly batting as the innings anchor. He added 39 runs for the sixth wicket with Milan Rathnayake, who was on ODI debut and made 22.

Wanindu Hasaranga tried to push the scoring rate but fell for a run-a-ball 22, becoming Taskin's third wicket in the 46th over. Taskin removed Maheesh Theekshana later in the same over. Tanzim then finished off the innings with Asalanka's wicket in the last over, before Eshan Malinga was run out in the following delivery.

Taskin's four wickets apart, Tanzim took three wickets while Tanvir and Shanto took one each.

An almighty collapse by Bangladesh, falling from 100/1 to 105/8 in the space of 27 balls

Not all Indians are Sanghis, mind it. But all Indians will celebrate Bangladesh's humiliation for sure

:qdkcheeky
I knew Indians in Australia that werent not cricket fans and couldnt give a damn about Bangladesh.

Before you take my statement our of context, yes they knew about cricket, yes they knew about kohli and indian team history, but they weren't cricket fans and couldn't care less.

Seriously? All 1.4B Indians + the 200-300M more indian immigrants across the globe all collectively hate the bangladesh cricket team due to one poster on PP getting into the heads of a few handful Indians on a Pakistani site?

Some of these comments are just too funny and too non sensical.

Why do they write me all these? I have no idea. I don't read 99.99% of the stuff they write.

I have 100+ Indians on my PP ignore list. :inti

Yes because your comments over the years all make perfect sense and have never been contradictory at all.

Sure

Sure
Yes lol, thats 200% correct. Ik you are trying to be sarcastic but in doing so you failed as you met the one guy who is incapable of contradicting and not making sense.

Bangladesh are going to miss 2027 World Cup. They have to play the World Cup qualifiers if they lose ongoing series.

Sri Lanka have finally found a way to beat teams in ODIs in Sri Lanka, but they will be found out on flat ODI wickets away from Premadasa.

Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat

And they are already in trouble... 1 down for 14 atm...

Bangladesh ring in changes for Sri Lanka T20I series

Five changes have been named with the big one being the omission of Najmul Hossain Shanto.

Bangladesh have announced a heavily revamped squad for their upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka later this month. The three-match series will see games played on July 10 in Pallekele, July 13 in Dambulla, and July 16 in Colombo.

The most notable omission from the squad is former captain Najmul Hossain Shanto. He was part of the team during Bangladesh’s last T20I series in May against Pakistan and the UAE but played in only one of the six matches.

This comes on the back of an underwhelming 2024, where Shanto struggled with the bat in 21 T20Is, managing just one half-century and averaging 18.84. Having stepped down from the T20I captaincy in January, he now finds himself completely out of the squad.

Left hander Mohammad Naim has been roped into the squad as the new opener in place of Shanto. Naim had a solid domestic season where he was the highest run-getter in both the BPL and NCL T20s, finishing on 827 runs at an average of 37.59 average and a strike rate of 140.40, including a century and six fifties.

Bangladesh have also been bolstered by the return of pace duo Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman, both of whom have recovered from injuries and recently featured in the first ODI against Sri Lanka. Another notable inclusion is Mohammad Saifuddin, making a comeback to the national setup after over a year. The pacer had taken a break from cricket following his omission from Bangladesh’s 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup squad but has returned in fine form, claiming 37 wickets across the BPL and DPL — the country’s premier white-ball competitions.

The final change sees Nasum Ahmed brought into the squad in place of Tanvir Islam in the spin department, as Bangladesh continues its search for a dependable left-arm spinner in the white-ball formats.

Bangladesh squad:

Litton Das (capt), Tanzid Hasan, Parvez Hossain Emon, Mohammad Naim, Towhid Hridoy, Jaker Ali, Shamim Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Rishad Hossain, Mahedi Hasan, Nasum Ahmed, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Mohammad Saifuddin.

ICC

Tanzim is one of the very few fiesty BD player. Look at Fizz, been playing for decade and in IPL, but still don't know how to hold a bat.

248 is not a bad score on These conditions.
Sri Lanka became win the toss win the match kind of lottery service. Last 6 odis were won by batting first.looks the same here too.ball will grip and turn like hell in the second innings.

2nd ODI:

BD - 248-all out.
SL - 164/7 (37 overs).

SL need 85 to win from 78 balls. 3 wickets in hand.

Better performance from BD today. :inti

Sri Lanka announce squad for T20I series against Bangladesh

Sri Lanka have unveiled their squad to take on Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series starting July 10. The series will serve as crucial preparation for both the sides for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which Sri Lanka will co-host alongside India.

The squad features several changes from Sri Lanka's last T20I outing back in January this year against New Zealand - a three-match series they lost 2-1. All-rounder Dasun Shanaka makes his return to the side after nearly a year, having last played in July 2024 against India.

Also making a comeback is Chamika Karunaratne, who last featured in the format for Sri Lanka back in April 2023.

Talented tweaker Dunith Wellalage has also been included in the squad to strengthen the spin department. The 22-year-old, who made his T20I debut last year, has featured in only four matches so far and will be eager to make his mark in the upcoming series.

Another addition to the squad is Eshan Malinga, who earns his maiden call-up to the Sri Lanka T20I side. While he made his ODI debut earlier this year, he is yet to appear in the shortest format. Malinga’s selection comes on the back of impressive performances in the IPL and SA20 league this year.

Sri Lanka Squad:

Charith Asalanka (c), Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal, Kusal Perera, Kamindu Mendis, Avishka Fernando, Dasun Shanaka, Dunith Wellalage, Wanindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana, Jeffrey Vandersay, Chamika Karunaratne, Matheesha Pathirana, Nuwan Thushara, Binura Fernando, and Eshan Malinga.

Series schedule:

July 10 - 1st T20I, Pallekele

July 13 - 2nd T20I, Dambulla

July 16 - 3rd T20I, Colombo
