What's new

Bangladesh tour of UAE (2025) - [3 T20Is and 3 ODIs against Afghanistan]

Good over from Rashid. Only 2 off it.

BD - 79/1 (10 overs: target: 144).

65 to win from 60.

Drinks break.

Remember when our legends Tamim, Shakib, Mahmudullah, Mushy used to play qualifiers against Associates?

I think this is BD's best T20 team ever.

Guys like Mushfiq and Mahmudullah weren't good for T20. Even Tamim wasn't that great in T20. Shakib was good.

Afghanistan spinners have been exposed in sharjah if they are getting exposed here wonder what will happen to them in sena countries.

67 to win from 66 became 62 to win from 54.

BD often make easy things difficult. LOL.

Big over for BD. 22 off it.

BD - 106/2 (13 overs; target: 144).

38 to win from 42 balls.

Shamim is out first ball. Back to back wickets. Afghans are fighting.

BD - 109/4 (14 overs).

35 to win from 36.

Maiden from Rashid. He is done with his 4 overs. Mujeeb is also done with his 4 overs. No Noor today.

BD - 109/4 (15 overs).

35 to win from 30.

Six.

Bangladesh win the game.

Bangladesh have whitewashed Afghanistan in Sharjah. They take the series 3-0.

Well done Saif Hassan.

Good chase.

Good series even though it was a whitewash/Banglawash. Afghanistan fought well posted 140+ all three games. BD chased well but made it tricky for themselves with some collapses first two matches, Afghanistan also bowled well to force the collapse. In the end BD has a long batting line up all down to Shoriful can whack

Bangladesh should aim to whitewash Afghanistan in ODI also.

6-0 would be a great performance. It can give them confidence and momentum.

ODI series is scheduled in Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi is likely to provide better batting surfaces.

Bangla brothers are head and shoulders above Afghanistan. Their aim should be to compete against Pak & SL and be the 2nd or 3rd best team of Asia.
Yes that's obvious. Bangladesh has been playing superb T20 off late which is quite amazing and to be honest I m surprised. Their body language, confidence is so high on the field. Well done 👍 boys

Afghanistan seriously needs to have back up players. All on a sudden their senior players have lost form, almost all of them except Nabi. And they have not prepared back up players yet.

Their attitude, body language have been down and they look like a bunch of loosers. It's a sorry thing to see.

I m so much impressed with Saif.

He has improved his game so much. He has talent and most importantly he has worked so hard.

I wish he remains humble,on the ground and continue to work hard. I wish him all the best.

The ODI unit is different.
It will be interesting to see how they fare. New captain, some new players.

I don’t think this happened much before where a Bangladeshi t20 batman hit more sixes than 4s scoring over 50runs.

Saif Hasan 7sixes and two 4s in 68 off 38 balls SR168 - way to go.

There’s different a new change of mentality in t20s this year, with new players.

Saif Hasan is a very good prospect for Bangladesh. You guys need to really develop him well.

He's got potential to be as good as Shakib was for Bangladesh, or even better!

He has changed his game, worked really hard, beefed up quite a bit, definitely is getting the gains last some years in domestic comps and now internationally. Long may it continue.

I hope he can become like Shai Hope for BD. He was not even in contention for T20 up till recently. He has played some scintillating sixes. He also doesnt seem to carry the "daal chawal" genes like most of our Cricketers.

BD need to handle spin better in the middle overs.

Growing up watching BD over the years esp in the 00s, Bd used to have one or two military medium type pacers for both formats at the time, there was hardly pace anyways not many pacers over 6ft. I used to wonder when will BD have decent pacey tall quicks who can bowl 140+. Now BD has many pacers 6ft plus, they even have different pacers for different formats theres even more in the back up like Ibadat who was a regular before his last injury.

BD never has a generation where both batting and bowling is at their peak. In 2019, batting was the best with peak Shakib Al Hasan. I even remember Hussey saying BD batting was as good as Australia after this WC'19 match. However, bowling was super dud with limping Mashrafe.

Now, bowling especially fast bowling is much better, but batting not so much. Also, that new local batting coach sucks.

Bangladesh completed a dominant 3-0 clean sweep over Afghanistan in the T20I series held in Sharjah, consistently executing successful chases in all three matches. In the third T20I, Saif Hassan continued his stellar form, smashing an unbeaten 64 off 38 balls to guide Bangladesh to a six-wicket victory.

Afghanistan, once again batting first, struggled through a lackluster powerplay and faltered further in the middle overs. A late surge from Darwish Rasooli and No. 10 Mujeeb Ur Rahman helped them post 143 for 9 in their 20 overs.

Bangladesh’s chase began briskly with Tanzid Hasan setting the tone before Saif took charge with his explosive strokeplay. He hammered seven sixes and two fours en route to his fourth T20I half-century. Despite a few hiccups in the middle, Nurul Hasan sealed the win with two overs to spare, remaining unbeaten as he had throughout the series.

2nd best team in Asia swept by Bangladesh. Maybe Afghanistan are back to being 5th best where they belong.

@daytrader probably loving this batting by Afghanistan

I'm not an afg supporter. Only love for the Bangladeshi Brothers for the series sweep.

As for you... weren't you hyping up Gurbaz as the next big deal. I remember you mentioning that he has the potential to hit 6X4 in an over in the PP

Bangladesh has to win this ODI series 3-0, if it’s to qualify for next CWC as the top 8 qualify automatically.

Currently Afghanistan is ranked higher at #7 and BD #10. Never did I ever think BD will be ranked lower than Afghanistan in ODI’s as it was BD’s most favourite format especially since 2012-2019CWC. I mean in T20s I expected anything but not in ODI’s.

Anyways. A series whitewash will help Bangladesh gain valuable points to climb up the rankings.

I'm actually puzzled as to how Afghanistan cricket works.

- How do they discover new talent...is there domestic cricket in Afghanistan and is anyone watching?
- If they do discover someone new, how does he get out of the country to be able to join up with the rest of the team which is playing abroad?
- If the answer to both of the questions is they can't, does that mean Afghan cricket is restricted to refugees? There's no single concentration anywhere after Pakistan has thrown out a lot of them so how is this going to continue?

This is Afghanistan's first ODI since February this year, when they appeared in the Champions Trophy. Since then, they have actually played little cricket. They took part in the T20I tri-series involving Pakistan and UAE, before the Asia Cup, and that was followed by the T20Is against Bangladesh which they lost 3-0.

Afghanistan have made three changes to the playing XI that last played ODIs. They have brought in left-arm spinner Nangeyalia Kharote and mystery spinner AM Ghazanfar while handing an ODI debut to left-arm quick Bashir Ahmad. They are without Gulbadin Naib, Noor Ahmad and Fazalhaq Farooqi who were dropped from their ODI side in this series.

Bangladesh have picked the debutant Saif Hassan, while Nurul Hasan returns to the ODIs after two years. They have not picked Shamim Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman, Rishad Hossain and Nahid Rana.

Bangladesh meanwhile have asked Parvez Hossain to stay back in Abu Dhabi, although he is still not officially in the ODI squad. Parvez is a backup for Mohammad Naim who is yet to fly out of Dhaka due to UAE visa issues.

Today is 1st ODI.

BD won the toss and elected to bat first.

Afghans are on top so far.

BD - 27/2 (5.5 overs).

they do have first class and List A matches going on in Afg. There is a tacit understanding with Taliban for all the outward rhetoric about sports, they will let the teams continue as they are. Once the players start doing well they free travel outside to participate in matches.

didnt know this match was going on. BD have good chance of winning this. AFG's batting has regressed so much in the last year or so. They won't chase much

Interesting. I wonder how all this is working. How's the money getting in? How are players getting out? Who's negotiating this with the Taliban?

The economics of all this backroom stuff is just fascinating to me. Theoretically, Afghanistan is cut off from international trade and sport but things just find a way.

BD are playing ODI after a very long time. I can see they are being rusty.

BD - 206/9 (47.2 overs).

Oh my bad, missed it. Bangladesh just ruined a good opportunity here. Shanto has been out of form for sometime. He needs to work on his form
Said made his ODI debut today.

Shanto also played. Not sure why. Shanto should be replaced.

Shanto should be dropped from all formats.

I would play the same T20 team for ODI also. Only addition would be Miraz.

Afghanistan batting is more suitable for ODI cricket so I'm expecting better performance from Afghanistan in ODI series compared to T20 SERIES .

:kp

ODI is now our weakest format. BD cannot sustain 3 format teams. Don't really mind, as long as they start priotizing T20s more plus Tests.

AFG is actually doing pretty decently economy wise. They are obviously not growing too much due to restrictions on women in workforce and education, but they are doing decently. The situation is stable, China and India are back supporting small projects. China is also working with AFG to export their natural resources. Taliban is also building some infrastructure including canals and highways. So there is a semblance of stability and growth. Although India doesn't recognize them formally, informally there is a lot of diplomatic and economic cooperation. There is also cross border trade with Pak, Iran and to some extend with China, along with few central Asian Countries. Most of the players get paid in USD and have residence in India, Pak and Dubai. All their top players play in IPL which also means there is some money flowing to AFG cricket board from IPL to provide them NOC. So they have ways to survive. Expect in few more years Taliban to get more legitimacy from India and China which will pave way for them to be back internationally

Shanto s fine for ODI. Tanzid need to take a hike. He got enough chances for ODI. He should just stick to T20 for now.
