He can but not consistently. I have seen so often than once the openers goes for Afgan, they have a very hard time putting on a good score. This was also very visible during the T20 WC. Gurbaz was on fire so Afg did well or decent with the bat during that tournament. Come Asia cup, openers didn't do much, and you saw the result.

If batters don't have good techniques, they are unlikely to do well against good bowlers and on challenging surfaces. Not everyone is Steven Smith.
