Bangladesh tour of Zimbabwe (2022)

Congratulations, Zimbabwe.

They take the series 2-1.

BD should've done better.

BD has tried a lot of things in recent times but, they havent been able to get the T20Is combination right more often then not. They have some decent batters and bowlers but, I believe they need couple of players who can hit big and go berserk on their day. That lower middle order's finishing and hitting ability is an issue and other batsmen arent too consistent as well.

Other than Liton Das, no other top 5 batsmen from BD lineup were able to go at SR of over 100.

Correct.

They are struggling in this format a lot. I don't know why. Lack of power hitting and poor captaincy perhaps.

ZIM 156/8 (20)

BAN 146/8 (20)

Zimbabwe won by 10 runs

PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Ryan Burl

Have the "we have a booming economy, a rich board, but why do we lose" posts started tonight?

Wow! Incredible series win for Zimbabwe!

Houghton has turned things around for them to some extent. The World Cup qualifier Group B winners and now a series win over Bangladesh!

Flopped today.

Gave away 40 runs in 2 overs.

He is generally good on sluggish pitches. He gets murdered on flat pitches.

He'll get better with experience. If I am not wrong, Herath is the spin coach for Ban right?

Zimbabwe's Ryal Burl hit Nasum Ahmed for 34 runs in an over in the third T20I between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh in Harare.

Ryan Burl smashed five sixes in a 34-run over in the third T20I against Bangladesh in Harare. In the 15th over of the innings bowled by Nasum Ahmed, Burl hit four successive sixes followed by a four and a six to take 34 runs in the over, the joint-second most runs scored in an over in men's T20Is.

The first six disappeared over long-on while the next three were also smashed on the leg-side. He missed a big one off the fifth with the ball bouncing once before hitting the ropes. Off the last ball, he cleared long-off to complete a stunning over for Zimbabwe.

Yuvraj Singh and Kieron Pollard hold the record for the most runs in an over (36) in men's T20Is after recording six sixes against Stuart Broad and Akila Dananjaya respectively.

Tim Seifert and Ross Taylor hit 34 runs in an over off Shivam Dube in 2020. Burl equalled this tally with his incredible hitting in Harare on Tuesday.

However, Burl also broke his own record for most runs in an over by a Zimbabwe batter. He had earlier hit Shakib Al Hasan for 30 runs in an over in a T20I in Mirpur in 2019. Then, Burl hit three sixes and three fours off Shakib in the 16th over of the innings.

This 1-2 loss against Zimbabwe have potentially long-term consequence for BD (may have to play in the qualifiers for 2024 World T20). They lost a lot of ranking points.

Wow Bangladeshis are terrible at T20. Supposedly very rich board, booming economy, BPL, all are just mirages just like every other aspect of BD

Embarrassing. A new low, even for Bangladesh cricket.

What makes me laugh is that they actually rested some of their senior players for this series, and appointed a new "aggressive-minded" captain. When you're a minnow its probably best to think like a minnow and maximize your resources instead of being overconfident.

But then again, the fact that they are still relying on their mid 30s senior players is also a damning indictment of the lack of talent in their country.

I agree. "Seniors" shouldn't be rested because Bangladesh have regressed since 2018. Everyone should play regardless of who the opponent is.

What's even more puzzling to me are decisions like Tamim retiring from T20s. It makes no sense. Not only is it the easiest format to play but he also happens to be of Bangladesh's statistically best batters in that format. There seems to be a serious communication gap between Bangladesh cricket and many of its senior players.

1st ODI

Zimbabwe have won the toss and have opted to field

“Everyone knows how good we are in ODI’s, we’ll hopefully bounce back then”, said Bangladesh skipper Mosaddek Hossain in the post-match interview after losing the T20I series. And that confidence comes with good measure, having recently beaten West Indies in their own patch. They also have some of their regulars like Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah available once again for this series.

They have produced just 1 world class cricketer in 22 years. When there's no talent, there's only excuse left

Not talent. There is talent..I think it's the physical aspect and mind aspect of the Bengalis..just look at West Bengal..they have everything in the world yet they also just produced only one world class player ever

Zimbabwe (Playing XI): Regis Chakabva(w/c), Innocent Kaia, Wesley Madhevere, Tarisai Musakanda, Sikandar Raza, Milton Shumba, Ryan Burl, Luke Jongwe, Victor Nyauchi, Richard Ngarava, Wellington Masakadza

Bangladesh (Playing XI): Tamim Iqbal(c), Litton Das, Anamul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim(w), Mahmudullah, Afif Hossain, Mosaddek Hossain, Mehidy Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman

No Shakib this series. Let's see how Bangladesh stand up without their star

BAN 111/0 (24.3) CRR: 4.53
Zimbabwe opt to bowl

This is an excellent start - alarm bells ringing for Zim.

BD - 303/2 (50 overs).

Poor last few overs. Could've reached 320-330. Zimbabwe pulled things back a bit.

Zim - 24/2 (5 overs; target: 303).

Sikandar and Burl should be the key batsmen. BD need to get these two out quickly.

A couple of batsmen need to score big for Zimbabwe. It is an uphill task but cricket is a funny game.

Harare ground seems super-flat. Ball travels like a bullet here.

But, the ground is big too.

Bangladesh currently have a 19-match winning streak against Zimbabwe in ODI. Zimbabwe last won an ODI against Bangladesh back in 2013.

Today is an opportunity to end the streak.

Zim is currently ranked 15 in the odi ranking. This will be a huge win for them

147 runs are needed from 19 overs.

Zim - 157/3 (31 overs).

These two have added 95 runs.

Two dropped catches. Poor fielding.

Zim - 170/3 (33 overs).

134 runs are needed from 17 overs.

Zimbabwe are cutting loose now. Striking well. They are favorites now.

I don't know why BD don't play Taijul. Much better spinner than Mosaddek.

BD bowling attack is struggling against Zimbabwe here. They should've done better.

Zimbabwe are a very easy to get behind team. They have a very poor domestic circuit and their cricket board is almost always in crisis but their team always plays like a band of brothers despite being amongst the most isolated international team.

One thing I would say is that Zim has lacked a good coach since Alan Butcher's tenure ended back in 2011. The early signs have been good with Dave Houghton.

BD were very sloppy in the field and bowling was ordinary.

74 runs are needed from 70 balls.

Those who think coaches don't make a difference, think again.

Dave Houghton has literally turned around a team that was losing to the likes of Namibia just 3 months ago!!

T20 WC Qualifier winners, T20 series win over Ban and now likely to go 1-0 up here in ODIs.

I agree. They are a likeable bunch.

They need Creamer back.

Didn't think I'd be hooked onto a random bilateral ODI between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh on a Friday afternoon but here we are. Heck of a partnership between Kaia and Raza.

Bangladesh should've gone harder, they batted 50 overs with plenty of wickets in hand. Their fielding has been awful too.

Agreed. Zimbabwe were a very handy team in the 90s that could make any team look foolish on their day if you underestimated them. Unfortunately lack of financial investment means their cricketers just cannot progress.

BD scored slowly in the last 10 overs. That may turn out to be decisive.

This a flat pitch. 303 is not enough. They needed 330-340.

They also lose many players to English county cricket. Gary Ballance and Kyle Jarvis, for example.

Nice hundred from Kaia, Raza on the verge too.

Bangladesh making so many mistakes in the field.

Innocent century.

Bangladesh still struggling to produce quality players after all these years of playing cricket. Shakib and Mushfiq are the last 2 quality players they have produced. The rest are all either okish or mediocre.

What a run-chase!

BAN 303/2 (50)
ZIM 235/3 (39) CRR: 6.03 REQ: 6.27
Zimbabwe need 69 runs in 66 balls

100s for both and win likely now

They lost Colin de Grandhomme to New Zealand too. It'd be interesting if we drew up a full strength Zimbabwe XI as I reckon it'd be a very handy mid-table international team.

Fifth international century for Sikandar Raza

Only the second time two Zimbabwe batters have scored hundreds in the same ODI

BD can still win if they keep their nerves....

Right.

CDG was a big loss. They also had a good leggie named Creamer. He left cricket after they failed to qualify for 2019 WC.

Wicket #4. Too late perhaps.

If BD can get Raza out now, there's a small chance. Otherwise, Zimbabwe should win comfortably.

BAN 303/2 (50)
ZIM 307/5 (48.2) CRR: 6.35
Zimbabwe won by 5 wkts

Sikandar Raza 135* (109)

Cracker of a run-chase - and well done to Zim.
