What's new

Bangladesh v England | 1st Test | Chittagong | Oct 20-24, 2016 | Day 2

Well that was a good start for England :))

Broad batting way too high in the order here

Please Crawl to 300....Please !!! B'desh are not winning this the moment we cross 300.....

Dharmasena should be banned, he is awful. How many decisions has he got wrong in this inns so far?

In his defense the amount of spin is extremely high.

Tbh, when you look at the decisions, they all looked adjacent. The broad LBW looked 50/50 to me.

I just hope he doesn't go to India, he won't get aa single decision right there.

There's definitely a little sound as the ball passed the bat, does this series have snicko/hotspot?

Moeen and Rashid are going to tear Bangladesh apart. Bangladesh don't possess the depth in batting that England does and so wont really have those extra 50 odd runs either. England is too much for them, and don't even want to think about what'll happen in Root bowls too. :ajmal2

Want to see Moeen get a few overs while the ball is still newish. Haven't seen Batty bowl in forever, so I'm probably wrong, but I don't think he's as quick through the air as Moeen

Brother, Bangladesh is not as weak as you think!!! England can not play spin at all in a spinning track. Just like Hafeez in fast bowling pitch

Just as I said, Moeen's extra pace makes him the most dangerous of the England spinners on this wicket.

England just got to a pretty good score on a spinning track...

Is the ball turning square?

The wicket is playing like it's day four or five. If Bangladesh don't overtake England's total then they're going to be in deep doodoo batting last.

Will Moeen be the Monty for us this time around.:shocked:42::moali:frightened

If the pitches are normal subcontinent wickets, you will be fine.

If the pitches are the raging bunsens where Michael Clarke and Jadeja take six or seven wickets in an innings then Moeen will run riot and 250 will be a good total for both teams.

I would like the wickets to be like the ones in the NZ series, especially Indore. But knowing Rajkot, it's likely to be a bunsen for the first test.

India will be shooting themselves in the foot by preparing bunsens though. England have a very deep batting line up, and even against an attack of Ashwin/Jadeja/Mishra, they might get to 250+ scores by virtue of the depth of their batting. And Moeen and Rashid would become unplayable on those bunsens and things would get very tight especially if we lose the toss. Would like the wickets to be UAE tracks (with better bounce obviously) that are good for batting for 3 days and take spin from the 4th day onwards. Indore was a similar track and that would be the best option for India.

If that's the case, I can see Bangladesh being rolled for less than 150.

Rashid isn't even close to being a test class bowler tbh, Moeen will always be the danger man if the pitch is doing crazy things.

I think you may be right.

Why is there a guy wearing a Trump T-shirt in the Bangladesh crowd?

I think Test doesn't motivate Mahmudullah or else he is a guy who should be averaging in the 50s, out of all the batsmen his shots are soothing to watch. Hope Riyadh Bhai scores a triple ton.

I don't believe in jinxes. Just light humour.

Still a long way to go in this test match. We have won 2 sessions out of the 5, England won 1.

These two are our best bets, Tamim and Riad. Mushy is our best batsman of spin. Shakib is generally good against spin but he is moien's bunny. Miraz is a decent batsman in U-19 and FC level. Sabbir, well he is a hack, not sure what he is doing in whites.

Btw, England fielding has been exceptional. Absolutely world class.

The bhais are back to screw us again

If only you Pakistan and Indian government cared more about theircitizens and ensured they wouldn't leave, then at least we wouldn't have to deal with Adil Rashid and Moien Bhai :shakib :amla

Btw this should be not out. That is the 4th decision of dharmasena that has been overturned lol

Why is there a guy wearing a Trump T-shirt in the Bangladesh crowd?

Because Trump t-shirts are made in Bangladesh.

Trump ties are made in China and business/formal shirts are also made in Bangladesh.

'Make America Great' indeed :yk

At least :amla goes easy on you guys

England will get a good practice before the all important tour of India. Good by bd so far.

A subcontinent team would have bundled out BD for 150-200 by now, but then again they'd have made at least 350

Wow apparently Moeen Ali's wife is Bangladeshi (not British-Bangladeshi) and they met while Moeen was on tour in Bangladesh a few years ago. Wonder who she is supporting?

Hope Moeen scores runs against Bangladesh but Bangladesh wins.:amla

Didn't think Moeen bhai was the type to meet his wife while on tour. Thought he would have his gaze lowered and go for an arranged marriage according to this parent's wishes. Guess I was wrong. :ahmed

Moeen Bhai is a playa, he is quite dashing without the beard. Check his before picture, looks as good as Imran Khan, no homo :shehzad

Looks like boys have played really well, though the match is still in balance' that Mushi wicket was the key. We should get a lead as Miraj, Rabbi & Taijul can bat, but Sakib has to hit big.

But boy, Poms are going to face music in India, if this this what their best to offer in spin department.

Bangladesh has far better bowling line up than India

End of a great day. Cricket will live in South Asia & we need to find a way to play D/N Tests, so that it doesn't start at 12AM at Toronto :(

Great day for Bangladesh.

If only they didn't lose a wicket before close of every session.

Still poised to take a lead.

Indian attack at home is probably best in world with Ash & Jaddu & they should play Mishra as well; but that's not the issue - the issue is that these lot are not going to replace Monty & Swan, while Jimmy is 35 now. Unless ENG wins 5 tosses, they have absolutely no chance to compete in that Series.

This the experience of playing Test - 4 wickets down in last over before break, 5th one in 3 overs time. Playing out session is an experience that can't be taught, it's learned through experience.

Oh please I will take Umesh and Shami over Shafi & Rabbi lol

Scorecard says, Batu bolod played really well, but went into shell for last 20 balls, which cost him probably a Century (& us the Test - a lead of 100 here is like follow on)

What if Eng bat first in all 5 tests? How do you see the series playing out?

England should have brought Bell in Asia. With their 6 men left-handed line up, they are going to be robbed by Ash. In last tour, there was probably only Cook & Ash had a POOR Series; now Root is probably only right hander before Jhony; OK they have 25 averaged opener Hales. May be Josh should play in Test as well - Ducket & Balance looked clueless against orthodox spin.

I think we played a bit too cautiously at the end. When Mushy and Shakib were playing their natural game, they were getting the runs, though not in the most convincing fashion, but hey, runs on the board is runs.

By playing too cautiously, not only have we scored 1 run in 7 overs, we lost a wicket. I am sure if the scorecard read 240-5 it would have looked better for us.

Regardless, we have played better cricket today. England's spin attack really didn't have venom that ours did. They were bowling too short, or full, some full tosses too. Bangladesh should look to take a 30 run lead minimum, anything more will be a bonus.

Its going to be interesting to see how Sabbir bats in the longer format, and whether Miraz can come good. We still have 3 proper batsman remaining, so I hope we put on a good total.

Exactly what I said against Kiwis - once or may be twice, they'll set 200+ for Indian batting & you never know chasing on 4th innings on such wickets - may be 3-2 or 4-1 for hosts.

But, I think ENG's only chance is absolute rank turner - play 7 batsmen including Butler, Jimmy, Stokes & Woakes to take the shine off & may be use reverse swing + Moeen, Adil, Ansari/Batty.

On the CTG type wicket, it's 5-0, whoever wins the toss.

True but these days, I think Ash looks more threatening against righties than lefties due to him tossing it up better and using the rough (which he can't get against lefties with the ball moving away). Back in those days, he didn't have the skills to do that against righties so struggled against them.

NZ series on not so turning pitches...all the lefties put up a greater fight than the righties against him.

What is CTG?

I am so happy to see Bangladesh becoming a force in world cricket.

So what if its at home?

You gotta start somewhere.

England brought 6 lefties to BD because of Shakib and Taijul, but obviously, they didn't prepare for the trump card which is Miraz, a genuine off spinner.

Right handers, you mean Guptil? :)

Ross had a poor series & probably was run out once, while Will missed the Eden Test. He is taking 7+ wickets/Test in India, so left-right won't matter much, but no spinner likes to bowl 2 different line in an innings. We also made the mistake of not playing Mosaddek instead of Momin - it made 1, 2, 3 a target for Moeen.
