Let's not deride Pakistan. As much as we like to criticize them, a full strength Pakistan team would absolutely murder BD anywhere in the world except Mirpur. My point being, sending young players into that swampy hellscape of a pitch and then judging them based on performance would be totally unfair.

I am 100% sure this tour was decided based on non-cricketing and political reasons. A tour of Bangladesh is a lose-lose for both the visitors and the host. There is absolutely nothing to gain and long exposure to Mirpur could take the flair and intent away from any batsmen especially youngsters.

Litton claimed that batters particularly suffered in two series back in 2021 against Australia and New Zealand, where Bangladesh won both series but received a lot of criticism for the tailor-made rank-turner wickets.

Mike Hesson ahead of PAK vs BAN first ODI:

I think our challenge here is adapting to the pitch quickly. Regardless of what's thrown at us, we've got to make sure we have a team ready to challenge Bangladesh in the right conditions.

Our last two one-day series have been exceptional. We've won both of those very convincingly and played some good, solid cricket. We've also had runs at the top of the order, which always helps. This series will be a challenge for some new players to do the same thing.

In terms of the conditions, there's a lot more grass on the square than I've seen here in the past year. It depends on how that plays and whether the seamers get assistance through the middle or if it turns for the spinners. We certainly believe we have good enough spinners to control the middle overs. If there's anything on offer, we can certainly create wicket-taking opportunities, but that will be very much pitch-dependent.

Of course we believe we can beat Bangladesh, but we also respect them, especially in their own conditions. As I mentioned, the conditions here will be very different from what we saw in the T20 series. That surface had inconsistent bounce and was fairly average. This pitch certainly looks much better, and I think both sides will be challenged with the ball as much as with the bat.

Bangladesh have been playing a lot more 50-over cricket recently, so we know we'll have to adjust quickly to the longer format.

Last time we were here, I did criticise the wickets. It certainly looks like a far better surface and better coverage this time. Unfortunately, the pitch here hasn't been great for a while, but even during the BPL the surfaces were much improved. Now there appears to be more grass cover and a more genuine contest between bat and ball. Both sides want to play on good cricket wickets and be properly challenged, and at this stage it certainly looks that way.

As for the squad, I don't think anyone was particularly dropped. As I said, it's a great opportunity for us to look at some younger talent. We get very few opportunities in the calendar to give a number of promising players a chance, because we're usually heading into or preparing for major events.

It will depend on how many players make their debut, but there are several who have been around the circuit for a while and have been waiting for this opportunity. Someone like Saim Ayub has forced his case through his performances in the T20 World Cup, and he has also done well domestically when playing 50-over cricket. Kamran Ghulam is another exciting talent — the highest run-scorer in first-class cricket — and he has been exceptional for the Shaheens. Mohammad Hasnain has also been around the fringes for some time. These are players people haven't seen much of yet, and this series is a good opportunity for them to show how good they are."

90% of commies kisses up to IND. If IND wants to dictate that T20 scores be 300ish, they will say it's great, thumbs up etc. I have rarely seen commies disagree anything with IND. Most of it has to do with the fact that they get these IPL gigs.

100% of Bangladeshis hate India.. you sound like you are neutral? lol Infact Butcher is one of the most anti-indian ex cricketer.

From purely Cricket point of view, not sure why anyone would hate IND or any other Cricketing country. Not everyone holds Sweepy's sentiment lol. Anyway, IND have the right to home field advantage. They can make the pitch as they would like flat or not.

But yes, I was pissed that BD got kicked out by ICC though.

Pitches have been always ike this lol You sound like every year they have some special thing to make pitches flat This was at Wanderers lol You need skill. Not pitch. ON the same pitch guys like KL Rahul, Kohli would ahve reached at the most 180 or 190. Attitude, skill, ability, fearlessnes, nervelessness. You can't just swing your way through in semi final. What did South Africa do on a flat Eden Gardens wicekt?

Bangladesh has declined massively in ODI compared to back in the days. Hope they put up some sort of a contest. This is also pakistan, so not much to expect lol
 
Bangladesh should not play cricket, I refuse to consider this a Cricket match as Bangladesh does not know how to play cricket.

Pakistan vs Bangladesh ODI Series

Dhaka: The trophy for the Pakistan–Bangladesh ODI series has been unveiled.

The unveiling ceremony was conducted by Pakistan’s ODI captain, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Bangladesh’s captain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

The three-match ODI series between Pakistan and Bangladesh will begin tomorrow with the opening match.

Sometimes even without a system the right talent just happens to come together and bamboozle the world.

Every team has had that phase. Zimbabwe in the 90s, India currently, and even BD back in their legendary run from 2015-2017, took out Eng in the 2015 WC and game them severe PTSD that they changed their entire philosophy and bounced back.

Time has come for BD to take its rightful place.

Mirpur pitch is a disgrace to cricket. How will our bats even develop there? Thankfully Babar is not playing as this atrocious pitch would have done nothing for his confidence even if it was a terrible decision to drop him in his best format when he is fresh off a 20th ODI ton.

Look, no one has been dropped for this series. We just want to give opportunities to our youngsters because they are our future. So we want to give them a chance against Bangladesh. I think their time has come, and they also know their roles and what lies ahead with the World Cup coming up. We just need to prepare our team for the World Cup, and this is a good opportunity for the youngsters to go out and show their skills.

On the Three Debutants

Yes, there will be three debuts. Sahibzada Farhan will be one of them. He has been a top performer in T20s in domestic cricket and also in List A cricket for Pakistan, and he has done really well.

Maaz Sadaqat will open the batting, and Shamyl Hussain will bat at number three. So there will be three debutants in the team, and I hope they play their natural game and show their skills. As a team, we are very excited to see them represent Pakistan, not just for one series but for the future as well.

On Pakistan’s Bowling Strength

That won’t change. The Pakistan team is known for fast bowling, and we will definitely rely on our fast bowlers to take wickets, while also making sure the spinners contribute.

On Team Selection and Playing XI

Of course, all 15 players in the squad cannot play in one match. Only 11 will play depending on the team combination, the requirements of the team, and the pitch conditions. So we will decide accordingly.

We still have one more training session today. After that, we will assess everything and then make the final decision on the playing XI.

On Bangladesh as Opponents

Any team playing in home conditions is always very strong. Bangladesh have a good side and they play very good cricket at home. They recently beat West Indies as well.

But as a team we are prepared. We played our last two ODI series against South Africa and Sri Lanka and played very good cricket, so we just want to continue that momentum.

On Pitch and Conditions

So far, the pitch looks like it may offer a little help for the fast bowlers, but we will see. I haven’t had a full look yet, so we will check again, discuss with the team management, and then decide our approach.

On Preparing for the World Cup

The players understand that this is a different format. The players we have selected have played List A cricket and also played for Pakistan Shaheens, where they performed well. So they understand the format and what is expected.

For us, this series is both preparation for the future World Cup and an important opportunity for them.

On Players’ Experience in Bangladesh

It’s not about inexperience. Many of them actually have experience here. Some players have played in the Bangladesh league before — Sahibzada has played here, Maaz has played here, and a few others played here last year as well.

So for them it should feel normal. They already know the ground, the pitch, and the conditions. I hope they play their best cricket.

On the Opposition Bowlers

I think the batters know the opposition bowlers quite well. They recently played T20 cricket against them and also faced them in the PSL. So it shouldn’t be too difficult for the batters.

They will just play their natural game and handle whatever situation comes their way.

Well, outside of Farhan, majority of the Pak. team is well rested. Because they mailed it in for the WC.

I think Mirpur pitch is good for ODI and Test. Not good for T20.

220-250 pitches aren't terrible for ODI. I want to see a balance between bat and ball. :inti
 
Pakistan hold training session ahead of first ODI against Bangladesh

Pakistan’s squad trained at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, where players practiced batting and bowling under the coaches after taking part in fielding and fitness drills, with the first ODI set to begin at 2:15 pm local time tomorrow.

SSA can become the greatest Pakistan captain of recent era shall he whitewashes Bang at their home.

The last notable ODI series won by Pakistan was in down under back in Nov 2024.

3 Debuts will be handed over tomorrow.

We need to play with Pakistan more often. BD batsmen will only get better by playing against better fast bowlers like SSA and Haris Rauf. Our current lot sucks against spin which is why they have been struggling in ODIs recently. However, in RSA conditions spin wont be much effective.
 
Ideal opportunity for Bangladesh, they will not get more lightweight Pakistan team than this , play fearless cricket attack from ball 1 and get into their heads . The victory is yours
