BCCI appoints new Senior Men Selection Committee - Chetan Sharma is Chief Selector

Ok … unconfirmed rumours about other imminent changes:

- KLR being asked to retire from all national sides
- Rohit to focus “more in test cricket and one days” likely after Bangla tour
- Dravid to be sacked as LOI coach but will be positioned as “leaving for personal reasons”, again after Bangla tour
- MSD to be appointed as LOI coach from Jan

Of all the so called "rumors" second is actually believable

Same old this and that player won't be selected blah blah blah. Do you even know what you are arguing about now? Or have you lost the plot completely? :91:

This is what you wrote above:

No need to play Kishan, Hooda, Samson, Ruturaj, Umran, Shahbaz in ODIs etc because they won't even be in your reserves let alone in the XI.

I rightly didn't agree with this because it is not possible to play those 15 world cup players in all the matches. Be practical for once. :rabada2

And how are you so sure that only Sky can replace KL? What if Samson impresses the selectors and they pick Samson instead of Sky in ODIs? This is what selectors should do and try different players. You are getting offended unnecessarily just because I didn't agree with your post. I saw a loophole in your post and pointed it out. My point was these players should get a chance and they will get it whereas you don't even want to give a chance to these players because you have already made up your mind about those 15 players. That's not how this works dear. :inti

Lol so what are you arguing about when you agree that we will not be able to try all these players? :facepalm

Are you really out of your mind when you are posting? Atleast quote when you have a reason or else don't respond back if it is just for the sake of it.

Surya will be backed, he did well in WT20 and there is S Iyer also in reckoning hence Samson is slightly behind in contention. :inti

More important is who are the replacements?

The age cricteria means, the selection pool is quite small.

Rumours say L Sivaramakrishnan is one of the favourites to be the chief selector. He played 9 tests. So if he is the chief, imagine the rest.

Plus LSRK is a CSK man. And expect him to be a yes man. So situation isn't going to improve much.

Unless BCCI relaxes the cricteria and hires someone with stature, this will not work.

You said we shouldn't try these players because they are not going to make it into 15 and I said these players will get a chance because no team will play their pre decided 15 players in all the matches before the world cup. I am talking about many players here but you are only singling out Samson for obvious reasons. Why are you so insecure about Pant's place in the team?

Why would you want to ask KL Rahul to retire when you can simply drop him.

Chokers v chokers amazing what you can do when the pressures off !!

And according to some experts over here who unanimously call newer posters "clueless" for just putting their opinion, it is not a guarantee that Suryakumar should be given a run ahead of Samson in ODIs. :91: :inti

Another front runner for the chief selector post is Ajit Agarkar.

Read about his (Not so)great Reign as Mumbai selection committee chairman.

How desperate one can get? Mixing up T20s with ODIs and then trying to make a comparison out of Samson and Surya when the actual comparison is between Pant, Samson and Kishan. It seems Pant isn't performing upto expectations these days. Desperation at its best. :inti

Make Pant the opener and we will win everything, see today also we are going to win the match.

BCCI making boss moves in order to show accountability by firing those who failed

PCB on the other hand is sending legal notices to those who criticise the incompetence of the chairman

still frauds like pant, bhuvi Kumar and hooda are playing instead of Samson, Umran Malik 🤦

Haha, according to certain experts who call others 'clueless', Pant costed his team the T20 World Cup Semis so that time they were talking logic but now when someone else played the same card, they are not able to come to terms with it. :91: :inti

This is all a sham to deflect the attention from some deep rooted issues in Indian cricket. First Kohli was the problem and it was supposed to be that he's a panouti . Now it's selectors. We all know deep down that India has peaked. Players like Kohli, Dhoni or Tendulkar are irreplaceable. I don't have much faith in these Gills, Shaw's etc. England is going to dominate this decade in white ball cricket and no one can do anything. They are the new Aussies

I would back Rohit as this is ODI format and once he is set, he can really make an impact but Dhawan and Rahul are just not in the right zone which you need for winning the World Cup.
That's a biggest lie now a days. He's 35+, unfit, gassed out too early..

In Pakistan frauds like Saqlain, Yousuf, Majed and even M Wasim will keep their job even if we failed to qualify Semi. Ramiz needs to be sacked for keeping these frauds for 2 big cups after failure 2021 T2o World Cup.

Good decision I guess. The selections of both wt20 2021 and wt20 2022 were puzzling.

Ashwin's presence in LOIs doesn't make much sense.

BCCI Selection Committee SACKED: BIG Accusation by OUSTED selector, SLAMS BCCI bigwigs for meddling in selections, says ‘They have made us scapegoats’

BCCI Selection Committee SACKED – Interference in SELECTION Claims Selector: A day after BCCI handed the entire selection committee pink slips, one of them has come down hard on the Indian board. While Chetan Sharma was already under fire following failure in Asia Cup, it came to many as a surprise why the entire selection committee faced the wrath. The ousted selector now has made a BIG accusation against the BCCI. He has alleged that there had been constant interference in selection affairs from some of the bigwigs. Even the ouster of Virat Kohli as captain in ODIs and T20Is was completely their decision.

“BCCI has thrown us under the bus when they clearly know they should take the blame as well. The captaincy decision was not entirely our own. There was constant interference in selection decisions. The rotation policy in place came as advice from BCCI and it was of course logical. But they now blame us for having 8 captains in 9 months. They have made us the scapegoats,” one of the ousted selectors who wished to remain unnamed told InsideSport.

Team India had a plethora of players joining over the course of last 12 months. As Rahul Dravid went for a trial and error policy, many auditioned. However, the ousted selector said it was not always their calls on selection. For example, bringing back Shami received BCCI’s backing in Jasprit Bumrah’s absence. But India already had Mohammed Siraj and Avesh Khan playing throughout the year.

Why did entire selection committee get fired?

Poor results in multinational events: Barring bilateral triumphs, India did not have much to write home about in multi-national tournaments. India failed in the final of WTC Finals. India failed to qualify for semifinals in T20 WC 2021. India made a Super 4 exit from Asia Cup and now a semifinal hammering in T20 WC 2022.

No long-term plan: When the team needed a long-term plan in T20s, the selectors ended up with almost the same team in T20 WC 2022. Despite injury concerns to Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja, India failed to have backup options. Also, calling up Bumrah prematurely for the Australia series cost India dearly.

Inconsistent Selections: Mohammad Shami and Ravichandran Ashwin were both not part of plans in T20s. However, made their way back to T20 WC in different circumstances. Similarly, Rahul Chahar, Venkatesh Iyer and Varun Chakaravarthy were promptly shown the door and never got the backing.

Change in T20 captaincy: The decision to appoint Rohit Sharma as all-format captain did not work well. Rohit struggled with injuries and missed many games. In fact, India ended up with multiple captains in T20 format despite being a WC year.

Not rewarding domestic performance: Sarfaraz Khan and Rajat Patidar among others have piled up runs in domestic cricket. But the selectors have backed the old guns despite not getting deserving results. Shams Mulani is yet to get a call-up.

Backing of players despite repeated failure: Ajinkya Rahane, KL Rahul and Cheteshwar Pujara all performed underwhelmingly. Yet, they retained their places for a long time. While Rahane is still in exile, Pujara is back in the mix for the Bangladesh series.

However, the ousted selector refutes the claims. He says the injuries were not in their hands and the next guy wasn’t ready to fill in the shoes.

“When you talk about not having a long-term plan, it’s untrue. The reason why Shami was dropped from T20 team was to make space for someone like Arshdeep. He did well. Axar got the backing to be a backup for Jadeja. But tell, is there a replacement for Ashwin? The next-in-line media talks about is Washington Sundar. He has been struggling with injuries. That is why Ashwin made a comeback. As far as team selection goes, it was never in our hands. It was up to the team management to take the call. You should ask why Chahal didn’t play in Australia,” the former selector said.

As for Virat Kohli’s removal from T20 and ODI captaincy with less than a year to go, the selector said it was not the selection committee’s decision completely.

“I won’t name anyone or a group. But it was not completely the selection committee’s decision to go with new captain for all formats. Some of us wanted to have Virat for white-ball formats until 2023 WC. But ultimately, Virat was removed. Many in the BCCI did not support multiple captains for multiple formats,” the selector rebuked.

“And as far as having 8 captains in a year is concerned, it’s important to rotate and rest players. Rohit is leading the in all three formats at 35 years of age. KL has been in and out of rehab. So, it’s only natural to go with the player next in line for captaincy,” he added.

The selections for Bangladesh ODI quad is quite puzzling and at the same time pathetic too.

1. Gill and SKY are not in that squad but Patidar and Tripathi are there.
2. Pandya is not in that squad.
3. Kishan is in the squad but Samson is not there.
4. No frontline spinner is picked.

They really need to lessen their selections to 18-20 at max and not waste matches on the guys who can't be in their scheme of things. For example, I can bet you if Kishan performs vs BD or if Patidar/ Tripathi performs vs BD they would still not feature in the squad.

India ODI squad for Bangladesh: Rohit Sharma (capt), KL Rahul (vc), Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, Shreyas Iyer, Rahul Tripathi, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Deepak Chahar, Yash Dayal.

Another name- Yash Dayal. What is the point of picking him? And they have picked 17 names.

Yes. Almost like they used parrot to pick the squad. There is no real consistency, logical explanation. Nobody knows why Venkatesh Iyer was never considered again.

I say it again, don't increase the squad and keep like 25 players in the scheme of things. Restrict it to 18-20. There is no point of selecting that many players for ODIs. You can try numerous guys in T20s but not in ODIs.

If I look at the possible names for ODIs,

Top 5- Rohit, Dhawan,Kohli, Rahul, Pant
Backups - Gill, SKY, Shreyas, Samson

All rounders - Pandya, Jadeja, S Thakur
Backups - Hooda/Sundar, Axar, D Chahar

Fast bowlers - Bumrah, Shami, Siraj
Backups - Arshdeep, Prasidh, Umran

Spinners - Chahal, Kuldeep
Backups - Bishnoi

That's 24 names alone and then if you count Kishan, Tripathi, Dayal etc it will increase to 27+. There is really no point of these many selections. Preferably should stick it to 20 in my opinion and have 1-2 more for the injury cushion. That's it.

So according to fired selectors BCCI bigwigs interfere in selections? That explains why some duds are still in the team even after performing poorly. :inti

They should be playing all matches in my opinion if they want to be considered for the World Cup. Resting them doesn't help considering that they are not in the best of the forms themselves except maybe Kohli who himself was in poor form before the T20 World Cup.

Look at the NZ series. No attempt to change a pedestrian bowling attack. No attempt to give youngsters a chance.

Gill Samson Umran warm the benches.

Harshal Patel
BK
Etc play.

Who is going to ask the team management the tough questions?

Mark my words,

Come the ODIs

Arshdeep
Shardul Thakur

Will play.

The likes of Umran Kuldeep Sen etc will be on the bench.

This team wont improve unless there is a conscious decision by the top bcci mandarins to step in and not give the likes of

BK
Thakur
Axar
Dhawan
Harshal

And such trash any spot in the squad. Hire a new set of coaching staff. Start with a young core.

Unfortunately that will not happen.

In last 10 years many young players have not got chances because the team management will continue to play their coterie members.

Mayank Agarwal was smashing it in the domestics and IPL. Yet he was not selected as Murali Vijay kept getting chances. He finally played at age 28.

Navdeep Saini : The guy from Haryana was hand picked by Gambhir at a trial because of his pace. Clocked 150kph multiple times in the IPL. But never got a continuous run in the team. While the likes of Thakur Patel BK Avesh kept getting chances. At 29 his career as a fast bowler is over.

Prithvi Shaw, Gill, Samson, Umran, are all going through the same drill. Precious years of their prime wasted as old coterie members get to play.

India in Bilateral T20I in 2022:

Beat ENG (2-1)

Agree.
We still playing with same guys again and again, not sure what stopping them to play with Gill Samson and Umran.

Enough with both Ishan and Pant.

Rajat Patidar, Kuldeep Sen and Tilak Verma performing very well in domestic season. This is the right time that players like them should get a chance to play for India.

One prediction

The pace attack for the 1st NZ ODI will be

Shardul Thakur
Arshdeep Singh
Deepak Chahar

Umran will be on the bench. The change has to come as a diktat from the top. Right now the team management is dictating everything and won't allow changes and Pandya's comments prove it.

Hardik Pandya responds to criticism of leaving out Sanju Samson: This is my team, doesn't matter what people say

India vs New Zealand: Hardik Pandya said that he doesn’t want to pay heed to the criticism surrounding not giving Sanju Samson a chance to play in the T20I series.

India skipper Hardik Pandya said that he isn’t fussed about criticism surrounding not picking the likes of Sanju Samson and Umran Malik in the playing XI for the T20I series against New Zealand.

In the two games played in Mount Maunganui and Napier, India made only one change after roping in Harshal Patel in place of Washington Sundar in the last game at McLean Park.

Hardik, who captained India to a 1-0 series win against the Black Caps, said that he doesn’t believe in changing playing elevens in short series.

"What people are saying from outside, it doesn't matter much at this level. This is my team, firstly. The coach and I will pick the team we feel is right. There is a lot of time, everyone will get a chance, when one gets a chance, he will get a long run,” Hardik was quoted as saying in the post-match press conference.

“If it was a longer series, if there were more matches, obviously opportunities would have been given. But when it is a short series, I don't believe in chop and change and in the future also, I wouldn't believe,” he stated.

The 29-year-old Hardik, however, accepted that it’s tough for a player to warm the benches on a regular basis.

"If they are sitting out... Sanju Samson, for example: we wanted to play him, but for whatever reason, we couldn't. But I can get into their shoes and understand how they are feeling. As a cricketer, it is difficult, whatever one might say,” he stated.

“You are in the Indian team, but you are not getting a chance in the XI, so that's difficult. But if I can create a healthy environment, where the players can come and speak to me if they are feeling bad, or go and speak to the coach, if I remain the captain, I think it won't be a problem. Because my nature is such that I make sure everyone is together," Hardik added.

In five T20I innings in 2022, Samson scored 179 runs at an average of 44.75 and a strike-rate of 158.40 with one half-century and a top score of 77 against Ireland back in June at The Village in Dublin.

Samson also didn’t get a chance to play in the T20 World Cup 2022 on Australian soil. It remains to be seen if the right-hander gets a chance to take part in India’s three-match ODI series against the Black Caps.

Pandya looks like another weak captain who is afraid of thinking out of the box and making changes. These guys are not fit to tie shoelaces of Saurav Ganguly and Dhoni. :inti

Suryakumar ( for Shreyas) and Gill( for Dhawan) will take their place first before Samson or Kishan comes into consideration.

Also, it is not very likely that Dhawan or KL Rahul will be dropped. They will go into the World Cup due to senior quota and experience nonsense. Only Shreyas can be dropped and he will be replaced by Surya.

Lol now you and Majestic know why I was saying that Samson should be given consistent chances in ODIs? It is not a guarantee that 32 year old Surya will have same success in ODIs which he is having in T20s as well. It is a different format. Sometimes you should learn to understand other's opinions. :inti

"They Can Spoil Your Cricket...": Gautam Gambhir On Why Foreign Coaches Are Not Right For India
Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir has heaped praise on the country's coaches and has pitched for hiring Indian coaches for Indian cricket team.

Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir has heaped praise on the country's coaches and has pitched for hiring Indian coaches for Indian cricket team. Gambhir said Indian coaches have proved themselves in the past and cited the example of Lal Chand Rajput, under whom India won the inaugural ICC T20I World Cup held in 2007. Gambhir was critical of foreign coaches and stated that they can spoil Indian cricket.

"Yes, we don't want and need foreign coaches for our team, they can spoil your cricket and team, what's wrong with Indian coaches? What have they done wrong? We won the 2007 T20 World Cup under the coaching of Lal Chand Rajput," he said.

The former India opener also talked about India's victory in the tri-series involving Australia and Sri Lanka in which the team was also under Rajput as coach. "We also won the CB series first time in Australia with the same coach but what we remember is the 2011 World Cup victory and coach Garry Kirsten," mentioned Gambhir.

He questioned the coaching stints of the previous foreign coaches. "What special work was done by Duncan Fletcher and Johnn Wright? We have to show trust in our local players and coaches," he said.

Gambhir, who played a pivotal role in 2007 and 2011 World cup victories for India, also applauded and remembered the contribution of bowlers. "Why should we always remember players who scored 97 and 91 in the World cup final. Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh played crucial roles in the Indian victory and their effort was equal to that of batsmen, so we have to remember them too," he said.

The southpaw was seen in the role of a mentor for the Lucknow Super Giant in the last IPL season.

Maninder Singh, SS Das Among Notable Names In Contention For Senior Selectors' Posts: Report

Former left-arm spinner Maninder Singh, opener Shiv Sunder Das were the two prominent names to have applied for senior national selectors' posts with experience of playing more than 20 Tests for India. It couldn't be confirmed whether former pacer Ajit Agarkar has applied or not. According to many, Agarkar has a sure-shot chance of becoming selection committee chairman with his international credentials, if he decides to apply. Salil Ankola, current chairman of senior Mumbai team, former keeper Samir Dighe and the flamboyant Vinod Kambli are said to have applied from Mumbai.

As the date of application for the new panel closed at 6 pm on Monday, it is understood that more than 50 persons have applied but there aren't too many heavyweights in the fray.

Among the confirmed applicants, no one has played more Tests than Maninder (35 Tests) while Das (21 Tests) is second in that list.

However, Maninder had applied in 2021 also and despite qualifying for the interview round, he was pipped by Chetan Sharma, who was the choice of erstwhile Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) headed by Madan Lal.

Chetan, in fact, had played lesser number of matches as compared to Maninder but stature-wise both were almost of same category, having been young stars of mid to late 1980s before fading away.

"Yes, I have applied," Maninder confirmed to PTI.

Sources in the know confirmed that Das, who is currently senior Punjab team's batting coach, has applied and with East Zone barely producing Test players of repute, he stands a very good chance to become a selector.

But, it is not confirmed if Das' home state Odisha will back his candidature.

Last time, Agarkar, despite being the favourite, didn't get the job as the former MCA regime hadn't backed him as the officials wanted Abey Kuruvilla.

The other names from North zone are lightweight former cricketers.

From North zone, apart from Maninder, Atul Wassan, Nikhil Chopra (Delhi), Ajay Ratra (Haryana) and Reetinder Singh Sodhi (Punjab) are former India players who have thrown their hat into the ring.

From East zone, save Das, other names are really lightweight. They include Prabhanjan Mullick, Rashmi Ranjan Parida from Odisha, Subhamoy Das, Saradindu Mukherjee and Sourasish Lahiri from Bengal.

Deep Dasgupta and Laxmi Ratan Shukla (current Bengal coach) -- two former India players -- have decided against applying.

From central zone, Amay Khurasiya of Madhya Pradesh and Gyanendra Pandey of Uttar Pradesh are believed to have applied.

While there are no written rules, BCCI normally believes in convention of equal distribution and hence five junior and five senior selectors in recent times have been from 10 different states.

So, junior selection committee has one from Tamil Nadu (S Sharath), Bengal (Ranadeb Bose), MP (Harvinder Sodhi), Punjab (Krishan Mohan) and Gujarat (Pathik Patel).

Hence, it is expected that candidates from these five states are likely to be excluded.

From Tamil Nadu, prominent names like L Sivaramakrishnan and WV Raman haven't applied.

However, former Hyderabad off-spinner Kanwaljeet Singh has applied for the job as a South zone candidate.

Zaheer Khan is part of MI where he gets paid way more while the others too (apart from Romesh Powar) are busy with commentating which again is way more lucrative. Ramesh Powar is head coach for women team and now with equal pay system may be earning same as dravid. So bottomline is no one cares (both public and players) who becomes chairman of selction committee as neither does it have the respect nor money.

Everyone cares who is the selector. But they simply cannot become selector while holding another job with the bcci or IPL Secondly in last decade or so, when Amarnath was fired by Srinivasan for trying to sack Dhoni, no big name guy wants to be a lackey of the captain or coach. Third is the age issue. By keeping it at 60 they have sidelined some big names.

I hope Salil Ankola gets a chance. He has done well for the Mumbai team as a selector. Agarkar was a disaster. S S Das too has good experience as a FC coach.

Its central zone that is the problem with only Gyanendra Pandey and Amey Khurasiya applying.

Kanwaljit Singh of south is 64. How did he qualify for the post i don't know. Though even during his playing days there were questions over his age.

Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjape Named In BCCI's Cricket Advisory Committee, To Pick New Selection Panel

Former India players and national selectors Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjape will join Sulakshana Naik in the three-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) which will be entrusted with the duty of picking the new selection panel later this month. Malhotra replaced former India seamer Madan Lal and Paranjape came in place of Rudra Pratap Singh, who has joined Mumbai Indians as a talent scout. Only former women's international Naik remained from the last committee.

"Malhotra has represented India in seven Tests and 20 ODIs and recently served as the President of the Indian Cricketers' Association. Paranjape has played four ODIs for India and was part of the senior men's selection Committee," BCCI secretary Jay Shah was quoted as saying in a press release.

In November, the BCCI had sacked the entire selection panel headed by Chetan Sharma. The other members were Harvinder Singh, Sunil Joshi and Debasish Mohanty.

It is understood that Chetan, despite his unceremonious dumping and adverse performance report after India's semifinal debacle at the T20 World Cup, has reapplied alongside Harvinder.

Joshi and Mohanty (tenure ended) have decided against reapplication.

Some of the prominent names to have applied are Nayan Mongia, Venkatesh Prasad, Maninder Singh, Shiv Sunder Das, Subroto Banerjee, Salil Ankola, Amay Khurasiya, Reetinder Singh Sodhi, Nikhil Chopra and Atul Wassan to name a few.

We shouldn't give games to other youngsters and let Kohli, Dhawan, Rohit play all the games before the world cup. :91: :inti

Venky Prasad is the front runner to be the chairman of selectors.

BCCI president, Coach, chairman of selectors all from Karnataka.

The way things are going, I don't see any massive changes, until India loses in 2023 WC. If changes start in 2023, the India's best chance to win a ICC event will be 2026 CT.

PS: I am taking out the 2025 CT as India's participation is not guaranteed.

As long they do their jobs well, it doesn't matter which state they are from. We do not know much about Venkatesh Prasad's selection credentials yet. Let us hope he is not like the other Prasad - MSK Prasad.

It does matter. Are there no candidates from other states?

When was the last time, that all 3 posts were held by one state?

Prasad is likely to be a yes boy of his friend and team mate Dravid.

Prasad was horrific as team India bowling coach and wanted bowlers to reduce pace and be line and length bowlers.

I don't believe we need to bring in geography when we should be looking for the right candidates. I am not sure what the real problem is. Is it because they are all from the south?

Again, we don't know how good or bad Venkatesh Prasad is as a selector. Let us wait before forming an opinion.

Nothing about south. Bring someone from TN or Hyderabad or AP. Thats fine.

Someone who can tell the team management that xyz is not good enough and we wont select just because Team management wants him is needed. Yes boy selection has led us to the present situation.

Agarkar is a good choice. Why don't guys like Aakash Chopra, Zaheer Khan, Sehwag, Murali Kartik, Ramesh Powar apply for this post? :inti

Because being an analyst on TV or YouTube probably makes them as much if not more money, gives them more exposure and a lot less criticism.

It is Jay Shah who should be fired. He is running cricket like a fiefdom.

He has no credentials for this job. He has tinkered with a winning team, defanged a marauding Kohli and India is paying for it.

Anyone who thinks any decision in Indian cricket is without Jay's blessings is in lala land.

And this is why Ganguly didn't want to join BJP. :inti

I am again reminding everyone it is not selection issue. It is not as if selectors are not trying young players. We did try Kuldeep Sen in last game no? He was breathing fire in domestic (Vijay Hazare trophy) cricket but looked very mediocre here. Selectors have also tried every success story from IPL - Venky Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Varun C, Navdeep Saini, Nitish Rana, Chetan Sakariya, Avesh Khan, Ishan Kishan etc etc. Apart from handful of players like Arshdeep and Bishnoi, none of them looked like international cricketers. So the selectors had no choice but to go back to 40 year old DK for the world cup.

The problem is there is lack of talent in Indian cricket. With India getting more & more urban and with people having plenty of career options, not many aspiring cricketers coming up. The talent in Vijay Hazare this time was abysmal.

Indian cricket between the period of 2013-2019 was all about top 3. Almost every game one of Rohit, Dhawan or Kohli used to score runs. But now with present lot getting old and no new talents coming up, Indian cricket is going downhill. There are no Sehwag's, Dhoni's or Yuvraj's playing in domestic cricket let alone generation talent like Sachin or Kohli.

We can blame selectors but the main problem in Indian cricket is lack of good cricketers at present. I am not saying we are going SL way (yet) but next few years will be very tough.

What credentials did Pawar, Srini, Manohar had?

BCCI has some very strong lobbies. Even Jay Shah has to think twice about what will be the potential bounce back.

I agree with you on that. An ideal candidate would be someone who sets aside any bias and maintains pure integrity in the position of a selector. I liked Krish Srikanth, but even he was not without a bias. We will wait and see.

It is a selection issue. India B string side beat full strength SA side. Venky Iyer not getting picked against is not his fault. It is fault of selectors. Gill, Shaw, Samson nobody had any sort of meaningful run. They use them for a series then they toss them aside, against use them toss them aside. SKY himself is a successful IPL story. Unless your are prepared to completely eliminate seniors and give chances to youngsters India's transition will be very very long.

Kick Out Rohit and Dravid things will get fixed automatically

Under Kohli and Shastri didn’t see this circus.

Rohit, Dhawan and Bhuvneshwar should retire now. Rahul should play only test format. This will solve all problems in batting unit. Bowling - Siraj, Bumrah, Arshdeep, Prasid Krishna, Hardik Pandya, Jadeja, Bishnoi, Washington Sundar.

Why can't India win the T
2023 world cup ?
Who are the players that should be dropped?

Pawar, Srini and Manohar can't tie Jay Shah's laces when it comes to direct power.

You have no clue brother. Jay shah is incompetent while Pawar, Srini and Manohar were not only super powerful but also super crooked. Jay shah is just a toddler in terms of weilding power.

Kuldepep Sen : Bowled badly but not looked mediocre. 1 match cannot exactly be a "chance"

Venky Iyer : This one is funny because Venky was doing absolutely fine. He was dropped for no reason or fault of his. Shows how messy and random selections are.

Ruturaj Gaikwad : Again not enough chance given.

Varun C : He wasn't even IPL success tbh. He wasn't spectacular in IPL when he was selected.

Navdeep Saini : When did he get proper chance? Saini was destroyed by selectors by not selecting him when he was doing great. And again Saini was never an IPL star either.

Nitish Rana : Didn't get enough chances. For t20s he could have been decent but his short ball issue proved detrimental for his selection.

Chetan Sakariya : One season wonder in IPL. Every Tom and harry knew he was average except Indian selectors who are obsessed with trundler love.

Avesh Khan: The only person in your list who received proper chances and failed.

Ishan Kishan : how has Ishan kishan failed. He has done absolutely fine til now and is not provided a proper run due to so many keeper options available and Rohit / Dhawan/ Rahul want to safeguard their opening spot.

Talent is not the issue. Selection is the issue. There's no consistency in selection. Selections are made to safeguard the interest of senior established players (performance no criteria) and then fill the remaining 2-3 spots randomly.

Step 1 : Filter out players who won't even be in your 15 man squad + 3 reserves. You don't need to give them even 1 game to have a look at. Just play them in T20s for now. This needs to be done right now.

My 15 man ODI squad for World Cup 2023:-

1. Rohit
2. Gill( no Dhawan)
3. Kohli
4. S Iyer/Pant( in middle overs, can destroy spin, clutch batsman)
5. Pant/Suryakumar ( at 5, either of the two can accelerate pretty well vs all bowling attacks and Pant can be used as backup opener in case of anyone's injury during WC)
6. Pandya
7. Jadeja
8. Shami
9. Siraj
10. Bumrah
11. Chahal

12. Suryakumar/KL Rahul ( backup middle order and backup keeper)
13. Axar/Sundar( Jadeja's backup)
14. Shardul( bowling all rounder)
15. Kuldeep

Reserves :

16. Prasidh/Arshdeep( any 1 of two)
17. Shaw( reserve opener)
18. Bishnoi

Only these 18-20 players should be playing ODIs in my opinion. No need to play Kishan, Hooda, Samson, Ruturaj, Umran, Shahbaz in ODIs etc because they won't even be in your reserves let alone in the XI.

After the elimination process is done, time for selection process which is Step 2.

Step 2:- Pick the right players in the 15 man squad Between Pant, Suryakumar, KLR and Shreyas. Pick the right backup all rounder options for Pandya and Jadeja. Pick the right bowlers options as backup. This is what we need to do in next one year before the 2023 World Cup.

Step 3:- Finalise the best 11 for World Cup. This can be done just before the World Cup.

This is how we need to proceed. At the moment, we are playing 4-5 players who aren't even in our best 18 for ODIs.

How wrong you were lol. No place for Kishan, Umran and Samson? Two of them have already proved you wrong. Samson will be the next one.
Thank god we are playing 4-5 players who aren't even in our best 18 for ODIs. :91: :inti

BCCI's New Selection Committee Likely To Be Formed In January Next Year: Report

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) new selection committee is likely to be formed in January next year, as per sources. The sources said that the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) of the board, which comprises former player Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjpe and Sulakshana Mail is expected to meet on December 30 to start the process of picking up the members of the new selection committee. Back in November, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sacked the National Selection Committee headed by Chetan Sharma and invited fresh applications.

Apart from chief selector Sharma, the selection committee also comprised Sunil Joshi, Harvinder Singh and Debashish Mohanty.

A release by cricket's apex governing body in the country mentioned the criteria for those who wish to apply for the positions.

"Should have played a minimum of 7 Test matches or 30 First Class matches, or 10 ODI and 20 First Class matches," read the official BCCI statement.

"Should have retired from the game at least 5 years ago and no person who has been a member of any Cricket Committee (as defined in the rules and regulations of BCCI) for a total of 5 years shall be eligible to be a member of the Men's Selection Committee," the release added.

The last date for the submission of applications was November 28, 2022.

The decision came after India's humiliating ten-wicket loss to England in the semifinal of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.

If BCCI Selectors Want To Look Beyond Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, so be it: Gautam Gambhir

Double world champion Indian opener Gautam Gambhir believes that if the national selection committee believes in looking beyond seniors like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, then "so be it". The highest individual scorer in 2007 and 2011 World Cup triumphs also wants more clarity when it comes to the status of individual players vis-a-vis their place in the team. The BCCI has not clarified if the trio along with Rishabh Pant has been rested or dropped for white-ball series against Sri Lanka starting January 3.

"There should be clarity. There should be good communication between the selectors and these players. If the selectors have decided to look beyond these guys, so be it. I think a lot of countries have done that," Gambhir told ESPNcricinfo on Thursday.

Gambhir didn't understand the fuss about dropping of senior players. "We make too much of a hue and cry when the selectors and management look beyond certain individuals.

"Ultimately, it's not about the individuals, but how you want to go about your plans for the next (T20) World Cup (in 2024), because you want to go in there and win it. If these guys haven't been able to achieve that, I think you never know. People like Suryakumar, the younger generation can go on to achieve that dream."

Gambhir felt that the comeback of the trio in the shortest format looks tough as of now.

"Personally, if you ask me, it looks tough," Gambhir said. "People like Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan should all be in the mix. Hardik Pandya is there, I'd like to try to get guys like Prithvi Shaw, Rahul Tripathi and Sanju Samson into the mix. They can play fearless cricket."

Gambhir didn't forget to take a dig at the "aggressive template" often spoken in public forums by the current team management headed by Rahul Dravid as mere lip service.

"We've spoken so much about the template and stuff going into the previous (T20) World Cup, that we want to play at a certain template, that we want to play aggressive cricket, but when it came to a crunch game (semi-final against England), all that template went out of the window."

He believes that new crop of players can only achieve this template.

"Probably, the new generation of cricketers might be able to achieve that template and play the T20 cricket everyone wants India to play. So I feel, if these guys continue to do well in the opportunities they get, it will be difficult for the rest of the the guys who have been rested or probably been dropped."

Easier said than done. He too was a senior player once and he himself made a lot of fuss about it. They will be phased out gradually. :inti

Funny bit is Chetan Sharma, the current chairman of selection committee, who was apparently sacked from the job has applied again for the same job and he will be selected again in that job. This will make the whole process a joke. You sack a guy who reapplies for the same position and gets his job back, that's the joke what we call Indian cricket. Chetan is a political appointee who has lost multiple lok sabha elections.
