Would you prefer a beard or not?

Mostly people don't but once they have it, it looks damning!

Some of the Pakistani actors;

I'm in that dilemma these days myself. I have always been clean-shaven, but I have a naturally boy-ish face and look far younger than my age. I really want to grow a beard so that I look more age appropriate but really don't have the patience of having to go through the awkward stage of week three/four of not shaving.

If you can grow a good one like that then yes go for it. If you don't have a naturally strong beard than just don't. It looks odd.

Hamza Ali Abbasi had an amazing beard!
TalentSpotterPk your choice?

Well kept beards are the way forward. I look 19 when I shave :/ I have supported a beard for a few months and love it. Takes like 5 minutes in the morrning to clean it and then I am ready to go :)

Personally, I look good in a beard, well, a lot more masculine. It helps my beard being a little brown/ gingerish as it looks quite cool.

Go for this one if it suits you and then slowly grow it up if you want the normal or the big one

Beards are in big time these days. Messi has one, Misbah has one, Thor has one, looks like so does Aquaman, kohli, and most NBA, NFLers do too.

Trump and Kim Jong Un are two well known clean shaven men these days, if that doesn't convince you to grow a beard I dont know what will 😀

Yeah, it makes an average to below-average looking guy appear good looking, the women love too especially brown girls.

Man I love my beard. I started growing it at 14 and had a full one at 15. By the time I was 17 it was nice and fresh and has gotten even better with time. Not sure why but my beard grows brown even though I have black hair.

Anyways, currently I don't have a nice one because my stupid job won't let me have one. :( Tried to keep a goatee, but I'm not great at it so now I have stubble and soul patch. I'll work on the goatee soon though.

Well beards are for men, not for boys. If you were a real man, then you would have the patience to grow one.
:P

If you have the ability to grow one then you should. It's growing for a reason. It won't look odd if you groom it well. Some people just need more grooming then others.

Yea bro beards are awesome

True, but it shouldn't be only for fashion. It's a part of life.

Yeah, it makes an average to below-average looking guy appear good looking, the women love too especially brown girls.

Yup. As long as it's not too crazy or too well done. Should have a nice, balanced beard.

Basically not as messy as KW's and not as girly as Kohli's.

I dont know about some of the comments here. My wife hates my beard, and she thinks I look better without it. According to her I look like a bum when I have a full beard.

Women don't know about beards. In fact, you'd be soft to cut it on her opinion only.

No I am not keen on a beard. It's okay if you're in your 20's, after that it makes a man ten years older then his real age. Its just a trend at the moment that will pass like all fashions do.

For sure.

I only have a goatee at the moment and can't grow the sides, but if I can at some point in the future, I'd love to have a full beard, somewhere between the Shahid Afridi/Jose Bautista beard length. Not longer than that.

I'm afraid you're wrong. Beards are not a trend. We have been growing them since the beginning of time. And they will continue to grow until some nerd comes along with his "next generation" technology.

Are you sure clean shavenness isn't the real trend? Considering 300+ years back, that wasn't very common at all.

Yea I will stick with that Azhar Ali type length until I am in my 30s
:azhar2

Then I will go full Moeen Ali :moali

Hahaha, that 3rd one has fake beard and mustache, but actually looks damning;

People are confused about whether its real or not but I can tell its not!

On behalf of Bilal7, a wholehearted yes! :batman:

3rd one is not real, though Ahsan Khan looks good in a beard, but he keeps it light. Actually he can pull off clean shaven and bearded look.

In fact, if you are good looking you can pull of almost any style be it bearded or clean.

More than beard or no beard, I think its your hair style that defines most of your personality / looks. Talking about personal experience here as well. Sorry to say but I dropped out of the grow your hair out clan after going for no haircut for about 9 to 10 months (you're on your own now bro Belawal2014) having learnt that shorter hairstyles suit me more.

All has to do with your face shape. People with longer faces like oval shaped ones thrive more with long hair because it adds depth to their faces whereas people with wider faces like square or heart shaped look better with shorter hair because it helps add length vertically to their face.

It's all about balance.

But for the sake of the thread I think people with chiseled facial features like well defined jawline and cheekbones can pull either style off but look better clean. Like Henry Cahill for e.g. guy who plays Superman.

While people with tubby faces, not necessarily chubby, look better with beard because gives their face some definition. Like Ben Affleck.

I swear I didn't plan the Batman v superman examples, totally unplanned for, they didn't pay me. :afridi

Beards were also "in" back in the late 60's and early70's. At that time the flamboyant batsman Wasim Raja had a very manly thick beard. Iconic Pakistan TV actors like Talent Hussain and Shafi Muhammad had beards. Beatles in the late 60's and 70's era only and people like Eric Clapton and Cat Stevens pretty much consistently, kept beards. They were the sign of musculinity, self assurance and sobriety. A chick magnet or rather a chick fur like magnet

Unfortunately in the 80's beards got hijacked by the islamic extremists starting from the Afghan mujadadeen's. Not that Mullah's never had beards before but theirs were the long wavy unruly type. Other than the charismatic Afghan leader Ahmed Shah Massoud with his Che Guevara style facial stylings, the rest of the lot made it hard for the fashionistas to adopt the style and not be mistaken for an extremist.

Glad to see beards being taken back from the hands of religious folks by the style gurus of today. I particularly like Fawad Khan's beard. He was so ordinary looking without it. They can really make a big difference on the right face.

I long to grow a beard one day as well. I grow it for 4-5 days and then the itching and scratching starts. Maybe one day I will be able to fulfill this dream but till then, I just go by with a sad pathetic looking trimmed goatee. A tragic compromise between clean shaven and full beard.

Have had my beard for more than 5 years now. Love it.

I could grow a decent beard within 3 weeks or less. But I guess what annoys me is that my beard thickness isn't even. It wasn't always like this but I once chose to have a goatee and stuck with it for a couple months. After that, my left side of my beard is a lot thinner than the rest of my beard, so it looks weird if I have a really long beard as you can tell it's not right.

By thinner, I mean that I just don't have enough hairs like on the rught side.

Unsure if it's genetics, or maybe I trimmed it wrongly. Probably not genetics as my dad has a full beard, and my 4 brothers have no problems with their beards.

Haven't chosen to talk to a doctor about this but it's been over a year this problem has been going on, so I probably will soon.

I wanna grow a beard but I always shave after a couple days of growth cause it doesn't look right, longest I went without shaving was a week and I looked really scruffy but nowhere getting a proper beard. I'll just till i'm older and hopefully the beard growth will kick in.

You're too hesitant. Either trim it the right way or let it grow for longer and the beard will be good.

I had a beard for a few months but my parents were always on my case that it makes me look too old. I though loved it and all my friends thought it looked great. Especially my lady friends.

It's great if you have patience to maintain it every 2 days. Also to maintain it my yourself is tricky. I always thought whenever I did it myself there were some shortcomings.

I'd say try it out for yourself. You should grow a beard at least once in your life.

looks good but it is high maintenance and not everyone can grow it. clean shave is the safest option works on all occasions and looks good with everyone and it will never go out of fashion

fawad khan was extremely good looking without a beard. probably better looking than 99% of the guys but beard makes him look more manly. he looked boyish and young for his age clean shaven. if fawad was ordinary looking without a beard then i guess all of us are extremely ugly creatures lol.

This footballer's beard and moustache is something....

Looks like sikh without a pagdi.

I want that look.. wife would probably kill me but that would look awesome! I also might not be able to land a job anywhere except at a biker bar or asa bouncer at a strip joint

Yikes! I have a job interview soon and have a thick beard at the moment. Wondering whether I should shave it all off or trim it down a little :s #LondonInterview

Don't shave it all off. Just trim it and make it look nice.

I have had some sort of beard for the last 10 years or so. My father wants me to grow it but currently I am a bit hesitant, I am nearing 40 so I should decide it by now.
How much should I grow it? Here are some recent pics.

That's the best age. The peak of manhood. 35-45. Around that time.

I say grow it long. :anwar :moyo :amla :moali

The peak of manhood is 30 imo. I am 41 and take it from me, there is no peaking here, everything on the decline. Even with facial hair. I have not seen anyone's facial hair getting thicker post 25.

Matter of perception but I thought he had a very Pappu look without the beard, not ugly or anything but nothing special.

One guy who looks awful in a beard is Shahrukh. No matter how long or short he keeps it, how he trims it, how he grooms it, it looks horrible. Just goes to show that not everyone can carry a beard.

I've always supported a beard since my teenage days..........

Although I don't necessarily grow it out like :amla or :moali but I do keep it and trim it every once in a while, it's more along the lines of Imad Wasim and Rizwan. Never been clean shaven in my life.

Physically, the peak is indeed 20-30. Which why athletes retire from 30-45.

I'm talking combination of other factors such as intellect, character and wisdom.

Another example would be intellect, which peaks at 45-55. Humans are smartest at this age. Their brains have accumulated many information, and they are not too old either.

While wisdom will continue to grow after the age of 30 because most important life experiences are never forgotten unless one goes through memory loss.

This is just a theory I have learned after doing some research.

Great, so I guess I am yet to peak intellectually. But what's the point of this intellect when the more I learn about life and this world the more pessimistic I get and the more I realize that I don't know anything. Ignorance can be bliss my friend.

Someone told me your mental capacities are diminished once you start getting hair

Well thats a Saeed Ajmal look, you shall start growing it I suppose

Agree, and this tells me how different could be the perceptions of two people, something I can never understand.

I don't have it in me to grow a beard, requires too much patience and determination. In my opinion, I look best with a third day beard. Not much of a beard but you're not exactly clean shaven either.

I can a grow a thick beard, even though I have never shaven my face, just apply a trimmer, but i can grow a very manly beard that too in a good shape, it comes naturally...

Since I'm a lazy guy, I apply the trimmer after like 3 weeks so the cycle of beard and shaven continues but I get mixed reviews, some say Beard is good some say shaven is good!

I just can't have a permanent one because that makes you look aged and variations are good at my age, I suppose.

Someone told me your mental capacities are diminished once you start getting hair

Freudian slip. Mental capacities are its purest when we are born, the pollution and unnecessary accumulation of useless trivia starts after that, nothing but decline from their onwards.

What about the skills we acquire overtime? Doesn't that makes us stronger?

What about the skills we acquire overtime? Doesn't that makes us stronger?

Skills we acquire overtime makes us into useful clogs in the running of the global machine that is called Earth. Doesn't change the fact that ultimately its a pointless pursuit with little or no return to us other than monetary benefits that lets us participate in the global game, hence fueling the never ending machine.

O jaan dey, bhai... I believe you are at your sharpest as long as you keep your mind engaged with useful stuff. The greying hair theory is bull.

Beard for me is a religious Islamic symbol and a dear Sunnat. So there are some Ahadees which U need to dig, they say that He Pbuh had small sized beard until 40-50 And than post 55 He Pbuh grew a long one but it was properly shaped unlike today's most Mullah's (Ulema e Soo) wehshee wild unshaped uncultured beard which defames Islamic symbol.

I approve Afridi's beard. For me it's halaal, justified and looks good aswell. I don't consider it unislamic.

For me beard small or long should be kept as per neeyat of Sunnat and not for fashion.

Fawad & Hamza's beard looked good but Hamza shouldn't have opted for unshaped cheeks but Hamza's Mustaches & koochee stole the show indeed.

Danish Taimoor's moustaches and beard are quite decent aswell. Suits him.

So if I am you I will go for Afridi, Fawad or Danish esque beard but permanent one with Neeyat.

But it's entirely upto you.

When I was 17-18 I opted for Jaw line for few months. My Conscience told me it has nothing to do with Islam so I grew a cultured shared 1.5 to 2.0 mm beard from there on Alhamdoulillah with a neeyat of keeping beard lifelong and I stuck with it. I do not rule out growing it longer when I get old but it would be like Misbah when he had kept beard for 2 months. Not beyond that ever. He grew it further.

That's my way. It's your life dear brother and you are free to do anything. Do what you thin.is right and what you like. Men facial hair has value and I carry them with pride :)

Peak of intelligence is a at 20... It’s the age you’re best at learning and coming up with new theories.... Brain starts to decline after that....

Experience and cumulated skills are useful in doing usual tasks...But young people are better suited for facing changing world and changing world themselves....

It’s same for athletes... If you’re experienced like Misbah you know your strengths and weaknesses... So you can compete with younger people in some ways... But you’re still past your prime..

Prime of the brain is in 20s... No famous mathematician has come up with great theory in 40s and 50s, no physicist changed paradigm in 40s and 50s... Etc

He looks like a Muppet without his beard.

I had a moustache for eid prayer, then took it off soon after.

I feel people who have moustaches love to hide in corners and wait for people to walk by and then jump out of nowhere to scare them.

Have kept a beard ever since I could keep one. Gonna try the clean shave look soon though.

Well, I actually quoted because I heard this somewhere from you that you are looking forward to grow one. Mine personally is very very much similar to that of Shahid Afridi( A little bit shorter though) because I have this cycle of trimming it after 2-3 weeks so its on and off, Don't like those french etc.'s but I thought Abbasi's one was quite uniform and disciplined, even though I'll personally never have one like any of the above...

I wanted to grow my beard this year but now my chin hairs have started graying and i look so old in it

It's either messy hair or beards, never both together. That's a golden rule and surprised nobody mentioned it.
So if you have a hard time keeping your hair tidy, beards is not a thing for you.

TalentSpotterPk i love small beard and have never shaved all my life.one day my Mom told me that betaa dont shave ever and told me that one of our villager died few days back and was not looking good with shaved face in coffin.

May Allah give you the strength :)

Even if you grow it further when you grow old make sure you trim and shape it properly to look elegant and not Wild as like Ulema e Soo (most)

May Allah lead you to a healthy successful righteous long life. Aameen.

AMEEEN!.yes that is my first priority to keep it clead and in order not like those as u said,

Still waiting!! Beard definitely look cool. For now only have hairs on chin but eagerly waiting and looking forward to look cool.

I don't know about others, but for me, it looked good but it made me look like 5-10 years older which is kinda hurting my social skills (every girl thinks I am 35-38 when I'm in later part of 20s). This has led to difference of treatment from various people which is bad when you're expected to look out for marriage in these years.

I'm still keeping it because its a Sunnah (although mine is not an Islamic one but bit close to that) and once you get used to it you'll feel naked after shaving it off (I did, and was covering my face till I got it back).

On the other hand, my parents were threatening me to bleach it out if I didn't shaved it back. Thankfully they're getting used to it now :misbah4

Also, I was really thinking about giving it up when a 'thulla' (police man) stopped our car (was going with friends) and checked me (only me despite 3-4 people being inside the same car) because I had slightly molvi-like beard.

if u keep it in good shape and order and not too long they will never do it to you.

Only recently I've realized just how sexy a nice beard can look if you want to boost your appearance, I have potential for a nice one but I am honestly useless when it comes to maintaining one!!!! Help guys, please
