The late Benazir Bhutto sahiba always fascinated me. Was she misunderstood or as corrupt as Nawaz and her husband Zardari? I was very attracted by her personality yet have been unable to figure her out. Was to young and disinterested in Pak politics at the time.

A missed opportunity.

She could not undo the Zia era religious legislation. Her 90s governments were marred by corruption and mismanagement, and was beaten in 1990 due to an ISI backed campaign.

She then realised she had to accomodate the khakis. The irony is for someone considered a darling of western liberalism - the Taliban took over Kabul on her watch.

While I don't really like slinging mud upon the dead unless they were really, really evil, I have a question for posters here. Isn't it an open secret that she was behind the murder of her brother Murtaza? Her car was apparently stoned by her own people when she came to Murtaza's funeral or something.

She was a corrupt, cruel lady in the same vein as Nawaz. Let's not put her on a pedestal just because she is gone.

She wasn't as bad as nawaz

And her big failing was not reining in her husband

Misunderstood? We do tend to attach many positive attributes to personalities postmortem as is the case here too with our nostalgic natures.

*too

Also I remember her son giving similar comments of late. Is this supposed to be some kind of defense for him too in the future? If you are disinterested in politics, stop your whining and stay at home eating your ice cream and watching your Netflix.

You want us to feel bad just because you were an over privileged child given the chance to rule the country without any prior experience or qualification so that you can continue looting it?

Well, boo freaking hoo.

One thing about an article I read years ago where she openly admitted that even though she is in power she is really not the one controlling the strings which to me when I read it I remember vividly the hair on my hands rising. Did she mean the army, some other mafia or group ? It’s up in the air.

I could be wrong but allways felt she was genuine and had her heart in the right place but based on what she said, there were things I feel that she just couldn’t control or she was generally out of her league. Being a woman also didn’t help a whole lot either I’m sure. To me I think there is a whole lot we just don’t know.

Get over your rubbish. I said I am to young to remember BB when she was PM and consequently was disinterested in her government. Coming from an affluent background does not always make a corrupt and dishonest politician. No one is stopping you from becoming a millionaire.

I knew some of her Iranian family members, and they did love her but they told me during her last few years she was always paranoid and remained silent, she did try though or maybe it's was the family bias speaking.

Again *too

So you are really comparing me becoming a millionaire due to my hard work (which I will achieve soon hopefully) to someone born with a silver spoon in their unmentionables with no experience at all to govern a country. Its like the discussion regarding that obese Azam Khan kid in the PSL. "Give him a chance even he has no reason to be there in the first place". I just hope you are living in Pakistan to experience the difference first hand.

No! I am saying that being a millionaire/ess or even a celebrity does not guarantee being a successful politician. Amitabh Bachchan fell for that many years back ending up with egg on his face! BB worked her way out, you seem to be holding her wealth as a means to attack her for that. I refuse to believe that all wealthy politicians are corrupt as you seem to be suggesting.
