hey guys i got a bat last month the adidas master blaster elite. i am happy with the bat but i realized that im gonna need a backup bat just in case this one cracks or breaks in the near future. so im willing to spend any amount of money on a cricket bat. i just need advice on which company manufactures the best cricket bats in the market.

thank you very much!

should i get a bat custom made from online instead?

A very hard question, I would say it will differ from person to person as everyone has different opinion.

Also keep in mind it is not neccessary that most expensive bat is the best one out there.

After owning around 18 bats (I think) I would say the best one is Gunn & Moore in my opinion. This is purely based on feel but in terms of performance then it has to be Black Cat Shadow.

Thanks cover drive bhai. I always wanted a gm bat and I'll get it now since u recommend. Once again thanks.

Which one Shud I get? Icon or flare or apex

How and why did you even narrow three selection which has Apex?! How?! How?! :argh

It depends how you play, I mean are you all round sort of player or you open and just play straigh don't play aggressively etc?

Sorry man those were the only gm bats I was familiar with.

I'm a guy who likes to play straight and I don't play much square shots or cuts. I want a bat with a large profile and something thick. Thanks for the help!

I'd say GM on the basis of most of my favourite batsmen using them and that with my Hero DXM I played the two best shots I've ever played in a match today.

Which ones Sami?

With that you would want a GM+ not regular GM because that will be thin for you.

I would say Icon + ask Sami too he is GM man!

Yea gm Icon has the biggest profile. Thanks guys I will take that!

If gm is so popular then why dont lots of batsmen use them. I heard that Shane Watson gets his bats made by milichamp and get gm flare stickers. Is there any truth to this?

I live in America where is the bet place to buy gm icon?

First one was a drive through extra cover which was pure timing of the ball, and the other was a square drive off the back foot from a seamer which went through point. Considering I'd been scratching around for runs in the first few games of the season, it was nice to go in at #5 and score 26 runs in the partnership which ultimately won the match. Folk said it was the best they'd seen me play, so I feel with a bit of consistency (and standing outside the crease against the quicks) I could be moving further up the order soon.

Plus methinks that the shape of the bat dictates suitability more than size.

GM sponsored players only get their bats through GM.

That's great to hear Sami, I'm yet to play a game. Brother was here so I couldn't spend time on cricket, InshAllah he will leave tomorrow and will be back to cricket by Tuesday! :D I hope you're promoted and score tons of runs there too!

Flare was made for Shane Watsom actually Flare is Shane Watson's shape! GM, Managing Director, Edward Lorwy confirmed all GM players are using GM bats and shape is not a problem because GM can make all shapes!

wow u guys play in legit county teams? i want to try out for the nj state team but i dont think im capable enough. my bowling and batting really need to improve. gonna practice over the summer and train to see if im in better shape.

cover bhai what position do u bat?

It's also convenient in that the Flare is a sort of natural successor to the old Purist bats, but only in the sense that they're both models with no concaving in the profile. The Flare's an example of the progression towards bigger profiles/edges and whatnot while the Purist was more traditional in shape.

Lolz, no hq I'm not of county standard. Went to a Kent Schools trial back when I was 13 but absolutely froze on the day, after which I was bereft of confident as a bowler. So I turned to batting and it's all I've done since I return to playing cricket a few years back.

lol same here. im a decent medium/fast pace bowler but i always had a passion for batting and i pursued it. here in america people find cricket as a boring sport and i really didnt meet people who loved cricket till this year.

LOL HQ :))) :)))

I play at club level, I started playing hardball cricket in 2009 at age of 18 and before that I never played hardball cricket so am not a great player as my bats or collection suggestion I'm no where near to that potential lol :))

Last year I was down the order, this year I hoping for middle order spot.

Whilst I've borrowed bats here and there over the years, the only bats I had any decent experience with before I bought my own was my brother's Duncan Fearnley Nemesis which had a decent middle but we suspect got a few too many coats of linseed oil, so we'll never know if there was more to it, and my old harrow sized Slazenger V800 which was cooool because Mark Waugh used that range back in the day.

Also I would say my bowling was good in my first season (09 and 10) but I never liked bowling always wanted to bat as I like batting more so never paid attentuion to bowling and now its worst!:))

technically speaking, arent factory made cricket bats better than hand made ones? cause they are more accurate with the cutting of the wood and the pressing?

:)) Hand made bats are also made in factory.

What exactly were you trying to ask?

Guys lets not plug external links here as that would be spamming. Thanks!

oh okay sorry for not being clear.

like i look at cricket bats like laver and wood and screaming cat. why dont cricket players get bats manufactured by them if they are so great?

are like gunn and moore factory bats better than the handmade bats?

We don't know where cricket players get bats from everyone not one place. At the end it is all about sponsor stickers. Whoever pays more to a player he will get his stickers on that players bat.

It is matter of opinion I would say some people say machine mades are better than hand made as they are more precise while some say hand made are better as it includes art ad skills of batmaker.

Hand made bats offer option of customization while machine made one doesn't.

Lol really CD bhai? With your passion for cricket, especially bats, i hope you do well in cricket and play a good role in a team inshallah. I would highly recommend buying a bowling machine though so you can improve your game. Im sure you have the money, just look at your impressive bat collection :)

Yes i would agree with you. Fair enough they aren't made to spec but that's why companies like GM produce very different bat ranges. Your bound to find one bat that suites your style of play.

Pressing of all bats is done by hand.

Yup really :)

Will look into bowling machine as well but need proper space and everything for it :)

Good luck with that. Just out of interest, what club do you play for CD bhai?

I am seriously considering a bowling machine as well.

The fact is that most of the guys do not have time to practice including me. Schedules do not align or we live far away and sunset is too early.

Having a bowling machine can be very useful and effective and helps you build confidence and try new techniques.

Otherwise, as I keep on telling everyone... every match is a practice for most of us and that's not a good thing..

Several years ago, me and a friend of mine would go to baseball batting cage every thursday with a very old bat and the owner was kind enough to angle the machine for us so the ball came with one bounce.

I'm in Canada bhai :)

Stallions and GT.

I live in Canada and my problem is that if I find a proper place to buy it.

I agree with you on most point, we have a basement and I'm sure it can be cleaned to accommodate bowling machine, I will discuss this with my parents and see what they say about it.

After batting against bowling machine I can easily feel the difference and I find bowling machine to be very very helpful!

Also if one calculates how much he or she spends on bowling machine every week or season then they can see the surplus where they have paid more for the nets and owning a bowling machine is a cheaper option.
