Best shot you have ever seen?

It may not be the best but my favourite was

Inzi's coming down the track nonchalent flick to the leg side whilst chewing gum and without a helmet in the 92 WC final....

See 5.11 onwards....

Oh and - this is one the shots that makes me think the :umarakmal is a mini :inzi!

He is the only player I have seen since showing the same nonchalence!

I don't think any of the shots mentioned so far come near to the hook Tendulkar played to Caddick. Cracking shot that

The "that shot" thread

Some shots just get imprinted in your brain and become so popular that a mere reference to the shot being "that shot" is sufficient for most.

So which shots have you been unable to forget? Specific examples (w videos or photos of possible)

It could sometimes be due to he match situation, things that have happened off field for certain players, or an ongoing dual between batsman and bowler etc.

Or it could just be poetry in motion

I'll kick start things.

THAT shot by Rohit last night - smashed hook/pull shot for a flat six that would have travelled all the way to Melbourne if the stands didnt get in the way. Amazing shot.

miandads 6 in sharjah vs india of the last ball

killed many dreams as well as clearing the rope

1) Saeed Anwar's 6 off Mcgra, good length delivery, Saeed arrogantly whipped it over square leg for six.Saeed's late cuts off offies, remember him late cutting murali between two point fielders.
2) Viv's six off Merv in Australia, WI needed quick runs to win the game, WI came up the order, started hitting and then this good length delivery from Merv, Viv whipped it over mid wicket, Got to be one of the most outrageous shot i have ever seen, Saw Inzamam playing similar kind of shot in 92 against South Africa for a four.
3) Lara's cover drives and pull shot off the hips, airbourne !
4) Steve waugh's slog sweep.
5)Mark Waugh's square cut.
6)Hydos whips over midwicket, walking down the pitch and no respect for the bowlers.
7) Gilchrist's sixes off Vettori and Monty
8) Sachin in 90s used to play this weird pull shot. He'd pick up a short ball well outside offstump and pull it thru midwicket and mid on. Also the famous six off Caddick, what a shot that was!
9) Inzamam's missiles down the ground, Bahutale(indian spinner) tipped as the next big thing after kumble, came Sharjah, Inzamam burried him six feet under, killer blows straight down the ground, over the umpire and also hit the Prize-boards couple of times.
10)KP's switch hit six off Murali
11) Ponting's pull shot, so perfect, off the front foot.
12)Robin smiths cover drive off WI bowlers, got to be one of the most elegant strokes i ever saw.
13)Freddie's six off Lee, a blinder of a shot when the ball was inches away from his eyes
14)Gower's teasers!!!
15)Even though Ponting is known for Pull shots but ALEX STEWART got to be the man that made me fall in love with pull shots, knee up, boom off it goes !
16) Afridi's six off Lee in Australia, stepped back and drilled a short ball straight down the ground for six.
17) KP's baseball hit off MC gra, that was murderous!
18)Afridi's six off kuruvella in Lahore, over point.
19) Jaya's six off waqar over gully in Singapore.
20)Javed's six off SHARMA tops the list though.
21)imran's six of whitney in 92 world cup, he only scored 11 or 12 but really put whiteny in his place with that shot.
22)Malik's over/thru extra cover, also Yousaf's lofted drives over extra cover. Yousaf's six off the last ball to score a 100.

In Sharjah, Gavaskar's 4 off Akram, Akram bowled a perfect yorker, round the wicket, perfect on middle stump, Gavaskar stepped back and nudged it thru slip/thirdman for four.

Does anyone remember Miandad taking cheeky singles? He'd kind walk towards offstump, plant his foot forward and then pick a ball well outside off and nudge it behind square leg?

Basit Ali's 2nd six off Ambrose in Sharjah where he scored that famous 100?

What about Dhoni's six the other day, epic

Damien Martyn against Azhar Mehmood in the three-match ODI series that Pak won.

The sound off the bat was like cannon fire. Absolutely unbelievable.

Afridi two sixes againist Ashwin in Asia cup.No current Pak player can do that under immense pressure

I don't think any of the shots mentioned so far come near to the hook Tendulkar played to Caddick. Cracking shot that

I will stick to it 7 years after.

That shot was an audacious statement. I have never seen a hook played with such amazing balance, power and elegance.

I remember a shot I saw on YT via IPL. I don't remember who it was but the batsmen went deep into his crease, and then behind the wicket to hit a full ball [4 or a 6?]. Astonishing shot really.

Chris Gayle's 6 against Bret Lee at the Oval - possibly the largest six hit at the venue.

For me, it has to be that one over in which AB hit couple of breathtaking sixes gainst Steyn in the IPL match.

Both were yorkers right on block hole, one was smashed all the way towards extra cover for a maximum while the other was totally freak shot(a scoope over the head of the keeper and finer enough from long on).

Completely unbelievable Kind of stuffs.

About 1000 exquisitely timed cover drives, pulls, cuts by Brian Charles Lara , everyone else’s strokes come after that.

Shahid Afridi vs Andrew Symonds. THAT. SIX. Its was just a full swing of the bat and it just launched.

Also Azhar Ali in 2016 vs Australia, he played some splendid straight drives.

This is the best shot i have ever seen played!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cDCuxNvuC0&feature=player_embedded

Considering the bowler, the manner of how afridi timed the shot is amazing. :afridi

Another shot I havnt been able to find a video for is the one kamran akmal played against steyn in the semi final at the t20 world cup, the straight six, what a shot!

It was a typical leg side slog, nothing special.
Either you have limited cricketing knowledge or a blind Afridi fan boy.

I remember watching a Dhoni leg side 6 off a New Zealand bowler, He didnt even bother to look up and see where the ball went. I remember the commentator saying "Nonchalance Mr. Dhoni"

I am sure not many remember that 6 :hasan

fine leg*

Literally too many to list so I'll mention the one from this year, 2019, that's going to stay in memory for long.

Rishabh Pant's blocking a 151kmph yorker that sped away straight to the boundary. Some straight drive. He misread the length initially and wasn't really well balanced but adjusted immaculately. Phenomenal stroke that only proved batsmen with low center of gravity are the best at playing express pace.

Here's the link for those who missed out.

It would’ve been called a “heavenly, angelic, godly, perfectly timed flick - with no bat lift, with perfect balance, with perfect bat grip, with perfect foot position” had it been Tendulkar instead.

Best shot I have ever seen in my life. Just popped up on my twitter feed. I was stunned when I saw it on screen while watching that game. 150Kph bowler!

In the right top corner under the score it says 50e beurt, which means in Dutch 50th turn. Turn in the mening of its your turn which translated to dutch would be: Het is jouw beurt

I Thought you might find it interesting :abbas

Not the best shot I've seen, that would be probably a Brian Lara shot, but that SIX Andre Russel hit against Pandya durng the t20 wc I think it was.

Like the umpire said: That's COLOSSAL!

Fascinating. Languages are a lens. Thank you Amirforpresident.

there have been so many but 3 moments really stick out in my mind:

Yasir Hameed pull shot vs. Australia, a friendly ODI match before the 2004 Champions Trophy...Brett Lee at his fast and furious best, bounced Hameed and Yasir absolutely smashed it thru square leg for a blistering four

Kumar Sangakkara cover drive vs. Saurav Ganguly in the ODI series played in India before 2007 WC...Sanga just touched the ball and it zoomed thru the covers, fielders were absolutely motionless

Brian Lara sweep vs. Kumble, ODI series played in India before 2007 WC...Lara swept Kumble very fine with just his right hand and whilst wearing sunglasses...absolute class shot

The Hameed shot for me always sticks in the mind. To pull a bowler as quick as Lee in front of square was some shot!

Tendulkar straight drive to Lee in 2008 ODI series in Australia.

Ponting’s square cut off McGrath in a 2002 (?) domestic cricket game.

1.Virat Kohli's six off Chris Woakes in 2017 in his first match as full time captain.

2. Ms Dhoni's six off Clint McKay, Adelaide 2012 .

Tendulkar have much better ones than the one posted by OP, but I would categorize them as "ordinary". According to me, the best shot has to be unique and not easily achievable or copied.

Barry richards backfoot straight drive off dennis lillee,7:36 in video.

1:25 brian lara straight drive.

I dream of Ricky Ponting’s pull shot.

Asides from an in swinging Yorker crashing into the stumps, there is no better sight in cricket

I miss his batting

In terms of aesthetics, Sangakkara's, Yousaf's, Vaughan's and Dravid's cover drives were like poetry.
Lara's dances down the wicket for sixes were sheer beauty so were Ponting's pull shots.

In terms of significance, can't look past Afridi's six off Udana in penultimate over in 09 WC(biased definitely being a Pakistani). Razzaq's six off Langeveldt in that UAE ODI in the last over was also something that got me scream at the top of my lungs at around midnight.

Nice video thread this.

Since AB de Villiers hit so many sixes, it's hard to choose. All of them were awesome though.

The off drive and on drive 4s were lovely. Somebody already posted his 6 against Caddick in the 2003 WC.

I also enjoyed Anwar's flick shot 6s, Indians saw enough of that in the 90s.
