Here would be mine:

1970-1990

Gavaskar
Greenidge
Richards
Chappell
Border
Botham
Imran
Knott
Underwood
Lillee
Marshall

Honourable mention- Miandad, Hadlee, Kapil, Holding

1990-2010

Smith
Hayden
Ponting
Tendulkar
Waugh
Kallis
Gilchrist
Wasim
Warne
Ambrose
McGrath

Honourable mention- Donald, Dravid, Murali, Flower

Who do you think will win? Also suggest your best test XI for the corresponding time period.

70s- 90s batting looks weak. But if I bring in Miandad, then they will be left with just four bowlers.

Or should I bring Hadlee in place of Lillee to make the tail strong?

I'll make 1 change in 1st (70s & 80s team) - Underwood out and Bedi or Qadir comes. I probably'll go for Qadir, because of being leggi and much better bat.

And, I'll make 2 changes in the 2nd team - Steve out Lara in (Must have missed it, can't be that you didn't even mention him in honor list) and, since Jaques is there, I'll drop Ambi and pick Murali - that makes in 3+2 fantastic balanced attack.

Who wins - I'll have to spend lot more time for gathering & summarize my thoughts.

Batting is fine for 70-80s - Gavaskar, GG, Viv, Greg, AB, Botham, Khan ......... what are you writing man?

Hadlee has to be the most underrated cricketer of all time if he can't find a place even in a world eleven of 1970-1990.

And Waugh over Lara???

Actually that is considering Botham bats at 6 , Imran at 7 and Knott at 8. Now in an ATG XI side, I think it looks a little weak because of that lack of world class batsmen at no.6. Botham is excellent but a batting all-rounder at 6 would have made the lineup look far more assured.

And your take on picking Hadlee over Lillee to strengthen the tail?

I am still unsure of that team. Could have gone with Hadlee over Lillee some other day. Or even thinking to change that. But then not having Lillee would have been unfair too.

Toughest call - I probably would have gone other way - drop Botham and bring RJH!!!!! That little batting dent can be well covered with the bowling. Over a 2 decade period, ITB actually doesn't look that good to be honest. He had an unreal peak for few years and got lots of matches that time, lucky as well that the gentleman Kerry Packer made it easy for his cause to bash substandard teams - even in that period, he was basically tail-ender against WI. British media puffs their sports hero hence lots of hue & cry, but combined cricket I don't understand why he should be given more mileage than Kapil Dev?

To answer your question directly - NO. DK comes ahead of McGrath in my AT AUS team and only 2nd to MDM among ATG fast bowlers.

Thanks. Don't think I would need to make any change there now except the obvious one - Lara over Waugh.

90s- 10s has better wkt- Keeper and better spinner.

But 70s-90s pacers will eat Smith and Hayden alive with the new ball. Smith will show some fight but won't stand too long against them.

I would play Sehwag over Smith. That said I could actually make another World XI for the 90-10 time period.

1. Sehwag
2. Mark Taylor
3. Dravid
4. Sanga
5. Inzi
6. MSD (c)
7. Pollock
8. Steyn
9. Donald
10. Shoaib
11. Murali
