Genuinely curious who PP see as the best WK batsman in Pak's domestic circuit. All leading teams in the world have the WK as a critical component of their batting unit (barring Australia where Carey is a more of supporting component)

Sarfaraz is heading towards the end of his career, regardless of whether or not, he is discarded slightly earlier. Rizwan, if anybody, has been groomed as the obvious replacement and while, to his credit, he has shown the ability and composure to build an innings, both his fragility against genuine pace and inability to accelerate, particularly outside of Asia has been consistently questioned, unless he plays at 4, he will be a misfit in any modern day batting lineup. Kamran Akmal is a chapter long closed, good riddance.

Which brings us to who are the long term/short term contenders who could fill Pak's LOI teams for years to come. Wouldn't like to discuss specialist batsmen who are backup wicket-keepers like Abid Ali, Khushdil Shah or Umar Siddiq - preferably proper glovemen who can hold their own with the bat.

Bismillah Khan was thought to be decent prospect but has faded with time, he's perhaps a 7/10 with the gloves but shows are serious lack of patience at the crease, probably won't last more than 3 overs without playing a suicidal shot.

Mohammad Hassan and Jamal Anwar are probably heading to stages of their career where the Pakistan ship has already sailed. Hassan is thought to be a man of true resilience but his inability to accelerate is a problem much similar to Rizwan. Acceleration probably isn't a problem for Jamal but his fitness doesn't appear to match whats required at the highest level and his batting is woefully inconsistent.

Gulraiz Sadaf and Gauhar Ali are both perhaps much better wicket keepers than batsmen and whist the latter could probably play a half decent T20 innings on occasion, you can't help but feel neither are cut-out for international cricket. Mentioning Adnan Akmal would be a disservice to this thread so I will refrain.

From the young guns both Umair Masood and Rohail Nazir have showed sporadic promise but nothing to note with regards to consistent substance and the PCB is showing a clear failure with regards to grooming them for the future. Nazir, though probably burst onto the scene a little earlier than he should have and one would hope, experiences like leading the U19s in South Africa will only help him grow in the near future.

It looks a very bleak picture on the WK-Batsman front in Pakistan's domestic structure. I feel this is a problem for both our mens and womens team, no offense to Sidra Nawaz, no team can afford a specialist wicket-keeper who is essentially a tailender to the batting unit but that is ofcourse, a conversation for another time. For now, something needs to change and quick.

Have I missed out on any prospect? Who is the best WK batsman in Pak's domestic circuit? Mods, would appreciate a poll on this.

Didn't include Saifullah Bangash, just haven't seen enough of his batting to warrant a mention.

rizwan is poor had nly one decent series thats all..no talent at all i am afraid

Both Rizwan and Umar are consolidators, so are Umair and Rohail. We need dynamic batsmen. This is what you get when the same underperforming players (most of whom are now 35+) are included in every squad for the last 10 years. The transition from club and grade II cricket to FC is very poor for Pakistan, and those with connections are preferred over merit.

Umar saddiq seems to be decent batsmen but his weakness against short pitch bowling is massive problem if he can rectify he can be decent option

Umer Siddiq is more than capable with the bat and gloves, other than Rizwan he’s an ideal choice

If siddiq and Rizwan are the best in the circuit then may Allah be with Pakistan...honestly

Gonna commit a sin.

Umar Akmal is the best wicket keeper batsman in Pakistan .

He didn’t even used to keep until international level.

Shows you how good he is, but more scary how bad our keeper batsman are.

Time to move forward from Rizwan .... Siddique never was in serious contention. Both of them have reached their peak limit and I don’t see them improving much, in fact they’ll regress now. PCB has a wonderful quality to delay players when in form, then pick them while I’m down slope. Four years later, Rizwan won’t be better than what Sarfraz is now.

After WC, it’s elementary that Ruhail & Umair must be fast tracked into squad. Competition & quality of talent in India is much higher/better, still 2016 U19 WC WK Pant is now regular (would have been 1st choice in WK without ATG MSD) - PAK should do the same. Rizwan might be unlucky to miss-out couple of years, but PCB must resist that next WK doesn’t suffer the same.

Wow the names were thrown here have such poor stats I wonder if we have one decent wicket keeper in domestic.

Rohail needs to be fast tracked into the Pakistan team

Since he is very young, adding a 360 degree dynamic batting to this game is achievable.

Rizwan can keep in Tests and more important tours, but Rohail should play v SL, WI, Zim.

Probably the most important question for Pak cricket. Sarfaraz is a liability and hurting Pak cricket. A poor captain, a limited batsman but the first name on the team sheet.

A replacement is warranted. ASAP.

We are still living in 90s era

Most of our WK are medicore batsmen. The reason is that U19 selectors still look for specialist WK

Hopefully Rohail Nazir is that change

Is he though? I want rohail to do well but he comes across as another batsman who will be lost in the lower order

Sarfraz will play for another 2 3 years , meanwhile pcb should look out for promising wk-batsmen in under 19 and domestic circuit.

Didn't Rowan hit two centuries against Aussie, I know not a perfect innings still better than most if the middle order currently Pak is pkaying

Rizwan is the best option we have.
Hassan is a good one for Tests as he is a better Wicket keeper and a resilient batter but not as good as Rizwan as a batter.

Umar Siddiq though is technically sound and a decent keeper but he is in the same boat as Sarfraz as being one dimensional when it comes to batting. You need to have a fixed batting place for him (he's been opening in LOI's recently), is unable to accelerate in the death overs and is definitely not a pressure player from how much I have seen of him.

For long term its should be Rohail Nazir. A fine batsman who is very reliable

Rizwan and Umar Siddiq with Rohail Nazir after U19 WC to be groomed for future along with Umair Masood (I think can be decent in tests in future).

Rizwan is perfect replacement for Sarfraz. He can't bat at No. 4 and is a busy player who can play in the same mould as of Sarfraz.
