Biryani vs Pulao? which is better?

I personally prefer Pulao, but it has to be a well made pulao from an expert. I love Yakhni pulao, also Kabuli one is really good

In terms of biryani, Karachi has the best and some North Indian ones like from Delhi/UP regions are really good

In our family Pulao is eaten more and loved more, my mom side of the family makes really good Yakhni lamb/beef pulao, it's more like a family recipe passed down through generations. I believe this pulao came from the Delhi muslim pathan familes orginally, it's very similar to the Peshawar/Afghan Pulaos

Biryani > Kabli pulao > normal pulao.

The vibrant color of biryani, a combination of yellow and white brings life to the dining table. The potato in it has a special savory taste and texture and when you combine it with raita, it's the most perfect combination.

Chicken biryani is better than mutton, but that's a personal preference.

Well cooked mutton biryani is perfection!

But Multani yakhni pulao is my family's speciality.

This is going to be very hard for me, I don't think I can make a choice! :6:

I can see this thread becoming a major problem in Ramadan.

I love zaafrani biryani (as opposed to those laden with aaloos)

I agree, there should never be vegetables in biryanis, only meat and rice. I also like the Zafarani and Awadhi(north Indian) version, which have no potatoes

But then again, I prefer Pulao overall, because it can be really addicting if it's well made

Unless its vegetable biryani..

I also tried prawn biryani, it was very tasty..

But ufff, ghar ke yakhni wali pulao aaahhh..

This is like choosing in between your left and right eye!

Kabli pulao in tandem with Kabli tikkay is quite a feast.

Yup Prawn biryani is amazing!, one of my fav versions of biryani

and I know, Yakhni pulao is out of the world!!!

It's very different from regular biryani, but I find the taste unique, it's more like that Spanish Sea food/rice dish, payaya or something

Yes, it doesn't taste like biryani to me.

Fish biryani is rubbish...
Prawn biryani... argh I shouldn't be reading this thread specially after my workout

Ever tried smoked biryani?

It is the food from heaven brought to earth in the hands of an angel.

-Burn some coal
-Put a bit of oil on a piece of aluminium foil
-Place the foil on the top of your prepared dish
-Place the coal on the foil and cover the dish immediately.
-Leave it there for a few minutes.
- Ta daa!

I gave in - to the embrace of ze biryani.

We can argue all we want over the types of biryanis and pulaos, but NOTHING can ever beat the perfection of chilman biryani - no way, no how!

Is that found in MIddle East? I believe I tried it there

actually from what I heard, Biryani itself came from pulao, pulao is older. Biryani was accidentally created by pulao chefs at the time, when they were experimenting around with different ingredients

Logically, one would infer that pulao give rise to biryani as a result of experimentation and tinkering.

yup it happened in the famous nawab kitchens of south asia at some point, experimentation gave rise to many of the famous dishes today

^ never tried chillman, any pics? how does it taste?

I'm not sure how its made (PC Dumpukht serves awesome chilman biryani!) .. But its less spicier than normal biryani, has saffron, nuts and kishmish in it, as well as a baked layer of "pastry" or sth (dont know what its called)..

It is scrumptious. Sheer heaven!

A spicy mutton pulao is better than Biryani. Add a biryani masala to the usual pulao menu and feel the difference.

Voted Pulao.

We don't each masalas/spices at home so I find Pulao better than Biryani :D

Mutton Pulao and Daal Chawal added.

I am assuming your are talking about Indian punjabis. Pakistani punjabis do eat a lot of pulao and biryani. I am not punjabi, but I find Muslim punjabi and sikh/hindu punjabi cuisine is very different. I wonder why though, because even sikhs eat meat
