BlackCaps abandon tour to Pakistan following a New Zealand government security alert

Stadium was torched? Which one?

I don't need to act, the way sporting teams act at the mention of a pakistan tour, shows the reality.

So India is the land of the civilised? Delhi is a safe haven for women????

For whoever is using the lynching from yesterday as a reason to not tour, that's a little ridiculous. While it's a horrible incident, it falls into a different category of concern. A cricket team surrounded by security in a stadium is at almost no risk of being lynched, like that just isn't going to happen.

As for NZ pullout, it seems a little fishy because first England's govt said there was no security risk, and then now we have Australia agreeing to tour Pakistan. Whether they come or not is to be seen, but the fact that they even agreed is a little interesting.

cricketjoshila you yap your mouth so much about India being a holier than thou in everything

How do you explain this barbaric behaviour?? https://youtu.be/Hy-6VnKXwhA Can’t take a loss??!!

Your country cannot gaurentee protection to Pakistan players for IPL yet you yapp about countries having history of teams being attacked????

Well, i know and remember very well what posters wanted or want to happen to sporting events in India and how a certain intelligence agency should do that.

The pot calling the kettle black, eh?

Last time i checked it was India who was against cricket in Pakistan.

I don't think cricket tours will be impacted due to burning a foreigner. It may have an impact on fans from outside visiting Pakistan. Not just fans, any foreigner, who comes across this news, may feel impacted. It's human nature.

As far as the NZ tour goes, none of us will ever know the details. If the government tells a team to get out of the country then they will get out even if the game was taking place in Aus, Eng, or India.

I don't think local law and order will have too much impact on tours. But this good Taliban and bad Taliban, Good terrorist and bad terrorist is simply not acceptable outside Pakistan. Pakistan is yet to realize it or purposely chose to ignore it for various reasons. It won't have a direct impact on tours, but it's guaranteed that the same security threat will be seen differently by visiting parties when it comes to Pakistan. An unfortunate situation as cricket fans, but that's the reality.

Fair points, but I think this "good Taliban" talk isn't really the concern nowadays. It's about amount of terrorism incidents that occur. The country has very few incidents nowadays which is good.

The fact that Aus are even willing to consider touring Pakistan is a good sign. Let's hope said tour and other ones go ahead.

Indeed. Earlier Aus was not even entertaining that idea, so it's a good thing. Pakistan just needs to keep inviting teams and slowly international teams will make a part of a normal tour. Just needs to have patience. I still remember Fanie roaming in Pakistan on a bicycle. With time when players feel safe, it may happen in the future as well.

One year ago...

Thankfully with Australia and now England here, such occurrences will not happen.

Very bad memories of that day. I remember that I was going for jumma prayer & while coming back I was fully prepared that I will watch the toss etc etc but then it happened.

But I fee because of that incident the foreign teams are now more likely to complete their tour instead of going back without any issue. For example if NZ didn't backed out then there's no way that Australia would have continued the tour after the blast in Peshawar's Masjid.

blast in i10/4 isb, I doubt NZ tour will take place now

I think the time has come for New Zealand media to act aggressively and put Pakistan in its place. They do not have to listen to this abuse from a nation that has no credibility and no leg to stand on.

The New Zealand media needs to talk about the Sri Lankan attack, Osama and the role Pakistan played in helping the Taliban in Afghanistan.
I have had the opportunity to go through this event and the posts on this thread. My understanding says:

1. Pakistan most likely tried its best to get the tour. Infact the pakistani pm called the NZ PM to try to salvage the tour. But in vain.

2. Whatever it was that forced the NZC to call of the tour was big enough for Ardern to even ignore assurances by Imran.

3. NZ could have done this more gracefully and without hurting the image of pakistan and pakistan cricket. Lets be fair, this will push back pakistan's efforts to hold matches at home. The optics were devastating. 4000 police men. Pakistan Army. SSG.Assurances from Imran. Yet NZC pulled out. May be NZC could have asked for an airlift to the stadium and back. This is has damaged pakistan cricket more than the lahore attacks.

They could have pulled out of this tour while being in BD and it would have been far less damaging to pakistan.

4. OSINT grapevine says the intel came from 5 eyes. So most likely we will never know what the threat was.

5.PCB has suffered a massive setback and will be hoping that ECB tours. If not, then its back to neutral territory.

6. Pakistanis are visibly upset and angry and i would be too if i was in their place. But all this talk of retaliation isn't going to do pakistan any good.

Anyways teams are not keen to tour pakistan and pakistan's relation with BCCI is not good. Spoiling relations with other boards wont help.

Right now pakistan team is not full of superstars and not a big attaraction, so they will have to careful how they respond.

Its not a good day for pakistan and for every cricket fan.

I thought so, it will not be wholly a NZ govt decision to share the full details, it requires permission from all 5 eyes alliance members. Presumably it doesn't have that permission.

Reports are this is from 5 eyes, the Americans, Brits, Canada or the Aussie intelligence identified a threat.

Glad it was picked up and the team was not possibly put in harms way.

Given the drastic actions and the comments made by David White and Jacinda, this was really serious.

Fortunately, the team is now in Dubai and can safely return home soon.

That is their wish who and when they share their intelligence. Pakistan or any other country cannot demand it.

Using expletives wont change the facts.

No they are not bound to share anything with Pakistan. And its their decision and they dont need to justify it either.

You can say anything you want, it doesn't affect Nzc or NZ or five eyes.

I wanted to bump this thread.

In light of the terrorism activity carried out by the Indian govt in Canada. The source was 5 eyes. It is interesting to see that in the TP thread, many Indians are saying that the intelligence needs to be shared.

Howeer, @ahsan17 said the following: When NZ cricket team took from Pakistan in September 2021 and didn't share any evidence, Indians were saying it's because evidence came from 5 eyes and 5 eyes evidence couldn't be shared. What happened to that logic now?

The hypocrisy of Indians like Joshila is quite interesting to note.
