Make no mistake I’m also furious at Talat’s innings - too many dot balls and his timing was poor. But keep in mind he has only played a handful of international innings and unfair to squarely blame the loss on him. Have to be persistent with him..

Is it a question of lack of experience or does he need to work more on his batting and stroke play to succeed at the international level?

For me Fakhar really needs to do better and Asif remains a glorified 2/3 ball slogger at best. It is their lack of contributions which needs to be questioned...

Babar played too many dot balls as well - the first over of Shamsi was a let off IMO and he treated the debutant with too much respect.

Discuss!

Hussain talat is not good enough. its that simple. his domestic t20 strike rate is 120. that is pathetic for modern day standards. there is no other team in the entire world that selects a player for t20 whos domestic t20 strike rate is 120.

there is no experience, no nothing that will ever change him. we absolutely should NOT ever persist with a pathetic batsman like this.

I thought he did alright , babar wicket was the turning point if he could have stayed a little longer I think we would have won. Also asif Ali threw wicket away and imad should have looked for a single rather than going for a big shot again

Hassan Talat is not cut for t20Is, i would say its down to the team management for playing him in the wrong format and playing him in the wrong position ( at 6) in ODIs.

With regards to Fakhar, someone needs to smack some sense into him and try to improve his rubbish technique.

Asif Ali should be shown the door.

Talat’s inexperience showed. He’ll learn from it.

Asif is turning in to a massive waste. Need to find some proper hitters.

Because Talat was putting pressure on him

Overall our only power hitting approach is the predictable cross bat slog towards mid on or mid wicket or hitting down the ground. The rest of the Big 5 players have found the ramp shot, glide to the full blooded yorkers or the placement in the gap towards third man to the full blooded yorkers.

I was shocked to see no one have any answer to the slower deliveries and slower ball bouncers. Clearly our coaching staff, practice methods are also far out dated compared to the rest of the world.

He has to take some of the blame Theres no reason why talat couldnt get another 9-12 runs by picking singles

He was trying to his the ball too hard all the time and missed several deliveries All it needed was a sensible tip and run appraoch when the ball isnt there

He needs to improve fast

Hussain Talat is not suitable for T20s along with long list of players in our team.

I wonder people of Pakistan wanted Babar to score atleast 150 runs out of 189
How shameful. How can you even blame someone who gave you a platform to finish the game. Watching Talat swinging blindly was pathetic. This guy should not even be near any domestic team, let alone national side. He single handedly won it for Saffers.

Talat has been given enough chances. He has played plenty and has not once performed when It mattered. Also, Asif Ali is massive bust. He has done nothing of note and is a PSL player at best. Both these guys can barely perform in bilaterals, not sure what they will do in tourneys.

Hussain Talat is Like India's's Vijay Shankar...tries too hard but lacks power!!

Sorry but poor performance can't be ignored. Shinwari, Hasan, Asid, and Talat should rightly be criticized for their performance.

Talat did even better than his potential. It was just the fact that Pak has no one to finish the game.

Oh boy what did we miss Hafeez this series. There is no other stroke maker in Pakistan currently. Just so sad!

Why would anyone blame Talat , he missed some balls due to his inexperience and good bowling by SA mixing the pace. Top three gave Pak decent start. The real diuds are Asif and Shinwari. Asif could not even score after a life and on a free hit. He must be the worse player ever to play for Pakistan for T20s.

Its only T20 cricket boys. Relax good experience for talat and babar for the future. Pak should have won both games but unlucky this is T20 cricket for u Unpredictable, pak should move on and look forward to aussies series and try and play 2 or 3 new good middle order batsmen for WC.

Fahim bowled better than Shinwari in ODIs and last T20 and we still select Shinwari ahead of him. Madness

Talat did what Misbah used to, in the ODIs, putting unnecessary pressure on others, playing for himself.

Hussain Talat , Asif Ali, Shoib Malik (For fast bowlers ) are not match winners , they wont get such kind of platform for last 5-6 overs , moreover many wont agree but today captaincy of Sarfaraz was missing, why Hafeez was not playing today fail to understand

He has hardly been given any chances and has scored plenty in last two games for T20s.

Talat did what Misbah used to, in the ODIs, putting unnecessary pressure on others, playing for himself.

If you were watching the game you could see he was actually trying too hard to hit boundaries and hardly playing for himself.

Also couldn't help but notice how he would yell out in frustration after every missed ball, early on while babar was calmly going about ensuring we get to the target. Not a sign of a composed match winner or even a thinking player

bhai it is very simple

for test cricket you have to find players such as fawad alam usman salah ud din who can stay at wicket for couple of sessions easily

for ODI's we need to have a left right combo at the start first and both should be aggressive then we need only one accumulator at 3 or 4 and 5 and 6 should be our gun players with couple of all rounders

but in t20s we need to find players in our domestic with minimum 145 to 150 + strike rate

last we need to find a right arm fast (145 km+ consistently) bowler in each format.

If you were watching the game you could see he was actually trying too hard to hit boundaries and hardly playing for himself.

And he didn't even learn. Could have simply scored signals of those dots he attempted to slog or put away too hardly. Would have won us a match

For me shinwari had a crappy last over (happens)... fakhar failing, and asif failing, isnt helping...

babar and talat played fine, just slowed down in the middle a wee bit without much pressure on them... (talat is still raw at intl lvl)...

would have liked to see rizi in b4 hassan ali still...

not a loss to hit the panic button over...

You guys are being too harsh on a young, inexperienced player. This is probably the first time he’s been involved in such a situation in front of a huge crowd on a slightly tricky wicket and I thought he did well. A huge learning curve for him. You can’t expect these guys to be 100% calm in such situations when they’re so inexperienced. Give them time, they’ll either learn from it or fall away.

Yes he played Misbah like inning, some score against his name but team lost because of that.

He was conscious of run rate and was trying to up the run rate. Experoe be will teach him sometimes 1s and 2s are just as effective as when going for boundaries you could waste the balls if you do not connect.

People should watch PSL

Hardly any big hitters on show.
Mamoon is right why we don't deserve no 1 rank because of lack of hitters.

I think he’s a talented player.... maybe suited for the longer formats.

However scores of over 180 are difficult to chase down.
Yes he played some poor shots today and yes we should have won from the position we were in but that’s how it goes sometimes. Initially he did a decent job today at number three and then just lost his way.

But that’s T20’s for you.. game can change quickly if you don’t keep the momentum going and that’s why we’re usually good at defending scores.

Malik should have taken ownership of the situation and ban Asif from taking on phehlu
He should have targeted his bowlers for him.
It was a hard pitch to hit cutters bowled into the pitch, so it was always tough. Even during commentary thread I repeatedly said it's not over
We needed to be ahead of the right and we ended up needing 50 off the last 5.
Malik should have come before Asif as turning 1s into 2s was the order of the day

Hussain Talat is Like India's's Vijay Shankar...tries too hard but lacks power!!

He has power, you can see that by just looking at him, he simply doesn’t have timing and have poor technique as well. He kept swinging and missed many. He connected a few and they raced away but had many mishits also.

I think in longer term context, I suppose it’s fine, as long as he learns from this. I think this game was more about poor captaincy and death bowling

We always won because of our bowlers or Fakhar/Babar . And also Sarf4az captaincy.
In terms of hitting we need more development and learn to play ground strokes. We have been losing forever trying to hit 6s Afridi was biggest offender.

Instead of trying to heave everything he should have tried to take 1s and 2s,His innings would have looked so much better..

Games like these separate men from boys. Did you see Dussen guy? You have to have match winning ability otherwise you are not good enough.

Firstly Junaid khan needs to be back in the odi and 2020 teams missued his control to build bowling partnerships, usman shinwari has no cricketing sense and should not be persisted with Amir should replace him, with these two in the team along with afridi, Imad, shadab we have bowling lineup to control and take wickets that's one of the reason we won many series in a row

Batting wise Asif Ali is hopeless like a tailender wasting a batting spot, hafeez to take his spot at 4/5

Mickey arthur should take the blame for removing junaid and Amir, lineup is lacking experience, one of the reasons why we won the champions trophy. Arthur and selectors need to bring junaid back he is at his peak and has perfect experience of playing in england

Dussen has been groomed in a quality domestic system. He has played 100+ FC games. That’s where he gets his composure from. You can’t expect the likes of Talat to be finished articles so early on in their career and that too graduating from out low quality domestic circuit where no one turns up to watch a game.

So many weaknesses in the bowling and batting but for me,what lost us the match today was Shinwari with his crappy last over and Malik with his stupid decision to give him the over.Hasan and Shadab weren't good with the ball either but Shinwari was the crappiest.

Talat was hardly the sole mujrim of the match. And it wasnt as if he was defending the balls rather he was swinging and missing and was frustrated with himself as well.Just not good enough i guess.

It was the bowling that lost this match and especially shinwari and hasan bowling wayward and short pitch stuff to get hammered all round the park. Missed sarfraz shoutings high time, he would have constantly been on their ears to bowl properly.

I’m convinced that these bunch of players deserve sarfraz shoutings to get them win matches such as like this.

Malik is too passive and as quite as like :azhar2

The problem is Junaid will be brought back to play in UAE get hammered and shinwari will walk back in to the lineup for WC

Looking at the numbers:

55 off 41 balls
13 dot balls

If he had just used his brain a bit more and converted a few of the dot balls to singles, Pakistan would have won.

He had Babar Azam at the other end in brilliant form yet kept on wasting ball after ball by trying to hit sixes into the stand.

Also it was a flat deck, play straight. He kept on trying these fancy reverse sweeps and flicks none of which worked.

Reading through some of the posts in the last hour, it would seem as if Pakistan were more likely to have chased this 180 target if both Babar and Talat had not been playing today.. either that or we have such high batting standards that we expected these two to have played like Kohli and Ghilcrist respectively, while the rest of the Don Bradmans in the line up can’t get 20 - 30 between them to win the game.. :)

If we are to have a brainless tullaybaaz like Asif Ali around, might aswell bring back Umar Akmal

Well both are neck to neck when it comes to being garbage players. Thanks Mickey keep picking these duds and we ll be “champions” 😡😡

Talat is a good find for Pakistan and he can be more successful in ODI cricket.. He has good temperament and should bat in top order in ODI and within a year he can be even best T20 player... Look at Babar... He has improved leaps and bounds... Wasn't 2 years ago told that he has poor strike rate and misfit for T20 and look at him now...? Just persist with Talat at position 3 in T20s and position 4 in ODIs... He can be the answer for Pakistan's brittle middle order...

Blaming Umr Akmal for being brainless while persisting with Asif----------------ridiculous, brainless idea.

That's the point he played really bad as he wasted those balls specially the free hit

Asif has been unbelievably bad. I wanted to give him a longer rope, but getting out to slower half-trackers, and the exact same way, I'm done with him now.

Looks to me as if sarfraz shouting has kept these guys on their feet not to bowl rubbish n wayward. Looks like these guys especially shinwari and hasan deserve all the shoutings behind the wicket to keep the, focussed.

Pakistan these days have habit of playing bits and pieces players which they never did previously...
For me playing Faheem, imad, shahdab, Asif Ali, is akin
Only imad among these qualifies as proper all-rounder... Rest are just average... Rizwan also seems to be passenger as far as his batting is concerned... Jus get rid of them and play specialists..

AGREED - and I knew this would be the case with each new batsmen rather than scoring singles/ doubles they flailed and missed.

ALSO Malik should have come out after the second wicket and led the team home - he rotates/ runs well - again left himself too much to do!:vk

SHINWARI - goodbye bro! you done playa!- Malik should be criticised for bowling this nitwit as well as that other Fakhar! Bowl yourself Malik - you're supposed to be a spinner with heaps of experience!!!:murali
Shinwari should not have been anywhere near the ground - he should have been watching sat with sarfraz - management/ selectors/ coach got to take the blame for that!!!:asif

To be brutally honest, i would take Umar akmal instead of Asif ali and i cant believe i am saying this. Asif ali has nothing to offer other than a couple of mid wicket slogs. Umar akmal at least has shots all around the ground. Both are poor against spin though. But umar has an average of 40+ in LA while Asif has 25.

Didn't think I would ever agree to this, but you are correct there. U. Akmal would add more at that 6 position.

But he will not get in the team till M. Arthur and Inzi are there. It is what it is.

I agree it was not a great innings but it is not so easy to take singles (and be content with it) when you are chasing almost 190.

Human instinct will naturally kick on and urge you to play the big shot and reduce pressure on yourselves.

I think we need to give the kid a break - he is very inexperienced and will only learn and mature as he continues to play.

Needs to be persisted with...

True. Ideally i would want any batsman other than the drama queen that Umar akmal is. But if its a choice between Asif ali and Umar Akmal for number 6 slot, then Umar is a straight forward choice. But it should happen only if there is no other alternative to these two brainless men.

Umar Akmal needs a phenomenal PSL to get in the team. It's his ONLY hope. Inzi doesn't care about domestic stats.

Y'all ask for new players and when they are trying to develop you call for their heads. He needs time and some coaching. In ODIs if he plays he should bat up the order. I won't write him off like most of you. He deserves more time imo.

Talat unfortunately is another accumulator type player who will struggle to up the scoring rate. He still is young and can improve but really struggled and put pressure on Babar at the other end.

He has the power game and strength - case in point that pull shot against Morris that went for 6!

Just needs to improve his timing and shot selection - will improve with experience iA!

Hussain Talat is improving. When he first came into the T20I side he was struggling to bat at a good temp against minnow opposition like Zimbabwe. Although for SA standards this is a mediocre bowling attack, he's improved a notch but he's not quite there.

I don't think he will be develop in time for the WC but after this tournament, drop Malik and Hafeez for good and replace one of them with Talat.

It is not his fault that he has been rushed into the side a bit too early. He looks a work in process. And because of these reasons he was below par in both T20s despite spending some time on the wicket. Very surprisingly, the more balls he faced, more difficult it became for him to time the ball.
Why would you try to scoop the ball over the keeper's head off a fast bowler, on a free hit? :)) Just try to clear the boundary , even unable to hit a maximum, you would still get a run or two despite being caught.

Our actual stance in T20 is around 4-5 no way to no.1. Not long ago we even lost to Bangladesh in T20 as well and struggle to win against Afghanistan. This team will be blown away by India 10 out of 10 times. Apart from Babar there is no proper batsman who can score 60-70s every often.

Talat is ok considering our standard. People should lower the expectation from this team as it has seriously lack off talent and skill.

He has a problem with away balls outside off stump. He needs to work on that and he'll be good to go.

It's really worrying to see Pakistan dosen't have a finisher even in domestic

A more intelligent player would have seen that Babar was batting brilliantly so instead of those thin air shots he should have just looked for singles.

We lost to them four years ago!

And beat them the last time we saw them in 2016.

When did we struggle to beat Afghanistan in T20’s?

Newbies tend to overestimate their capabilities and have less IQ overall. It's a good experience for him and he'll get better. It's refreshing to see a Pak youngster trying to build an innings on foreign soil.

My only problem with Pakistani batsmen is : when they are set, they still do not bat freely. This is the only thing that doesn't make sense to me. I play Sunday league and though we don't practice after 40 balls the shots just come out and you can even sense where the bowler will ball. But I never see this with Pakistani batsmen. Babar played 40 balls and in the end he ended up hoicking to leg side, like how?????
Same with talat he was batting decently and then out of nowhere the wafts to leg side start.
The words is imam ul haq because he will play 100 balls and still not be able to time the ball, instead he gets uglier as the innings ends with some of the worst ways to get out after playing 80+ balls.

You either drop Hussain Talat or keep him in the position where he scored a 50 last game!

Not sure whats wrong with Malik/Micky here! Why are they destroying the confidence of a good batting prospect by demoting him, considering he has scored 80 odd runs in the last two games batting at number 3. Yes he hasnt been overly impressive but at number 3 in the last couple of games but so what? He's 22 and he is learning! He shows that he has potential so why not back the boy??

What exactly did Rizwan do instead which Talat has been unable to do? Malik is the king of burying young talent in Pakistan!Appalled with this decision making. Rizwan and Malik 3 and 4 in 2019!

Called it way before. He’s a trash batsmen & a horrific bowler. Much much better options than him. Hafeez will be an immediate swap for him.

Easily the worst player to have debuted for us in the last two decades.

I don't get what Mickey sees in this lad.

He has a long way to go before he convinces me that he has what it takes to be very good in international cricket.

I guess it was more to do with seeing how Rizwan is, hasn't really got a chance apart from the 5th ODI, where he was a huge disappointment, apart from that he's hardly got to face more than a few balls.

He’s a poor timer of the ball, also too much of a leg side player.

He’s seems a hard trier but that’s not enough at international level. He’s not that at that level.

Certainly not a number 3, who’s stupid idea was this ?
