Blessings In Disguise

In cricket, there has been various cases of blessing in disguise when one good or great player retires or sometimes dropped(and retired) and that decision proves to be a masterstroke which ends up bringing in a player in the team which helps them greatly or the cricket team is greatly helped by it.

Let me give you some examples

1. Andrew Strauss retired in 2012, who was a very good opener and captain for England. When he retired, a spot opened up which made an uncoming Joe Root get a shot in the Test team. Joe Root has since become an ATG for England since.

2. Chris Martin's retirement helped give Neil Wagner a chance which he grabbed and helped give New Zealand their probably best pace attacks ever.

One of the examples of forced retirements which proved to be brilliant decisions is:

Bangladesh's selectors preferred a young Mushfiqur Rahim over an experienced Khaled Mashud, and Mushfiqur Rahim has since become one of their best players.

Other instances like this?

Adnan Akmal getting injured, meaning Sarfaraz getting another chance and boy he took that chance and is now the captain of Pakistan in all 3 formats.

Root actually debuted instead of the retired Paul Collingwood at #6. England had struggled for a few months to fill that slot, bouncing around between Morgan, Bopara et al.

Strauss's slot still hasn't been filled yet. There's a reason Cook has teamed up with no fewer than 19 opening partners in the last few years alone.

Root was actually selected as a possible opening replacement for Strauss along with Nick Compton. He was a regular opener back then. England decided to give the opening slot to Nick Compton ahead of the younger Root. Root eventually made his debut 3 Tests later than Compton at no.6 which was sorta "out of place" for him after Samit Patel who couldn't manage a lot. Root was then made to open in 2013 Ashes but he for some reason looked ill positioned at "his natural position" so he was pushed back down the order. Maybe if Strauss hadn't retired, Root wouldn't have gotten picked, and England would have looked towards the likes of Ballance, Bairstow and Vince as they were the middle order batters in county circuit.

Fixing saga of Indian cricket was actually a blessing in disguise which allowed us to throw the likes of mohd.azharuddin and co and start a new exciting chapter of Indian cricket

Usually everything that happened to Pakistan there has always been a silver lining The trio fixing and getting banned led to Misbah becoming captain, a cleaner less fixing prone Pakistan. We were embarrassingly weak in 2010 and we've been more competitive ever since then. Playing in Pakistan is better in terms of the fans watching and I hope it returns there, but think we've been more dominant in UAE than we would be/were in Pakistan.

Sharjeel getting banned led to Fakhar Zaman playing for us who has been miles better. Sharjeel was hype but Zaman is actually bringing results.

All in all things just have a way working themselves out. We should have adopted a stronger stance on fixing really. Would have discouraged fixing much better if players thought they'd be banned for life rather than a few years as well as gaining the respect of fellow cricketing nations showing there's a no tolerance policy on fixing. Think we just were scared of no one being able to replace them. But things have a way of working out.

I think 4th June loss vs India was a blessing in disguise for Pakistan. Post that game they got rid of Shehzad and Wahab and got Fakhar and younger seamers. They looked a champion side since that very day :)

Need a blessing in disguise mega thread, it’s hard to keep track of all of them as we are such a blessed team.

Pakistan cricket team:- "I am blessed to be very good in all facets of the game."

Sarfaraz seems to be a blessing in disguise of a cricketer for many.

Anyone??
I think it is. We can get rid of The Cheer Leader

No chance. He will give a presentation like a liar in front of BCCI and prove that no indian team has played better than this Indian team in the last 50 years. :inti
