Is bottled water better then tap water for some unknown reason or is it psychological and just a marketing gimmick? I can't swallow tap water for some reason. Keep thinking of where it's been before reaching me:shafiq2

Depends on where you live. Tap water is fine for me but I've got a dispenser.

Tap water unless the place you live at has a poor water supply. It’s also cheaper and causes less pollution.

I don't know about you third world folks in the UK and USA, but here in first world Canada we can drink tap water no problem.

Tap water always tasted like crap in Kitchener/Waterloo. It's fine in the GTA.

In most of America tap water is just fine but the current town I live in has crap water.

Having been to Pakistan I've noticed that part of the reason why tap water there is so bad is cause unlike Amerrica where water is directly sent through pipes to your faucet with high pressure, in Pakistan people have underground and overhead water tanks where the water is first filled up and then pumped to your faucets, ao the tanks would obviously accumulate dust and dirt and insects no matter how clean you'd keep it. They shpuld just do what we do here, pump that water directly to faucets however I don't think pipes over there have that much pressure and might not be energy efficient.

tap water has problems with it being over loaded by cholrine and flouride, i always drink bottled water but best is to get a proper filration system.

The reason you don't have the proverbial thanki in Amreeka is because the mains pressure is already high enough for the water to rise to three/four storey. For taller buildings the buildings have a booster pump system in their basements. The pressure in the mains is maintained by variable speed pumps that can ramp up or down based on demand but they ensure the same pressure in the main at all times. This obviously requires uninterrupted power, well laid out network of water mains and enough pumping capacity and nifty bit of engineering. All the factors that are not available in Pakistan.

Been drinking tap water in Cairo for a while as millions others here do, but I don't think that'll be a good idea in Karachi....

Why not boil water the good old fashioned way? We generally have clean tap water in Kashmir but we boil it in a big utensil about 3-4 times a day. Doesnt take much effort.

In the U.K. tap water is as good as bottled water. The latter is a con, and the plastic bottles highly polluting.

pretty cool info. never knew..

remember wondering once how come the tankee never ran out of any of the buildings or houses i lived in in the US.. surely the maintenance guys were not that efficient..

btw do people know that almost all these bottled waters that are sold in North America are actually filtered water from municipal sources and on many occassions the tap water is s same or even actually purer? Apart from some brands like Fiji, Voss, Volvic(?) etc most of the bottled water available in stores isnt mineral water and is just equivalent of tap water. (both are sourced from municipal sources)

For eg Aquafina (Nestle/Kinley etc) used to claim that they were mineral water but now cannot do so. Their bottle clearly says its purified bottled water... Unless its clearly says spring water or mineral water or artesian water, the water you are drinking is most likely same as that you would drink if you just opened the faucet in your kitchen.

yes bad idea.

im actually surprised egypt has pure tap water?

Unless you want to catch something very serious, stay away from tap water in Pakistan.

I doubt anybody in India consumes tap water.

Easy to do that in Kashmir but you do not want to drink hot boiled water in 45 degree Celsius heat.

Too polluted. Boiling only helps with bacteria, and only partially at that. It does nothing to mitigate the effects of the myriad other pollutants including but not limited to plastic materials, chemicals, human/animal excrement and a whole bunch of other things we take for granted in our tap water these days. The only city in Pakistan where tap water is somewhat palatable is Peshawar and even that's pushing the boundaries of what's palatable.

Jokes apart, pure tap water here in Norway, probably cleanest in whole World.

In Pakistan, bottled water is the only way to go imo. Expensive compared to tap water but health is wealth after all.

Here in Australia tap water is very clean so most people just stick to that.

This thread is about bottled water or tap water. Any off-topic discussions about America vs Canada don't belong here.

Tap water tastes just better for some reason. And has more satisfying taste.

Best is Boil filtered tap water and then cool it and drink.

We use bottled water for travel, easier to carry. If tap water stays longer outside in glass/container, it tastes weird, not the same case for bottled water.

Most people in India has RO water system, I think it's must.

I prefer tap water and filtered. The plastic in the bottles can be harmful to the drinker.

The thought of drinking tap water (if available) never even crossed my mind in Pakistan. UAE had great tap water. German tap water has too much "Kalk" in it so much if you leave any water in a specific container overnight it develops a white chalk like texture on top. Actually most of the toilet sanitary products are anti kalk, like in the shower head, tap head etc and I have to use anti Kalk tablets in my coffee machine regularly to prevent the build up.

Will be installing a filter system soon.

Being from the state with the freshest water in all of N. America I use tap water quite often. Bottled water is fine but as the recent BBC report suggested no matter what the process is...all bottled water has some traces of plastic. This is why Boxed water is the new thing...

Doesn't flint, michigan have the worst water though? I never thought detroit would have the freshest water in all of America?

Michigan is known as the Great Lakes state. We have 3 fresh water lakes (Huron, Michigan, and Erie) with one of the cleanest water. It all depends on where you're getting your water from. Detroit moved to Lake Huron water a decade ago but some parts of the city are still using Detroit River water which is the same source as Flint, and the one you don't want to drink from. Michigan actually just allowed Nestle to pull as much water as they want from (https://www.detroitnews.com/story/n...le-michigan-permit-water-withdrawal/33489833/)

People have the decade old view of Detroit being a run down city...but a lot has changed in the last 10 years. We're now the come back city of the US...the suburbs of Detroit (where I live) have been home to the Auto Industry Executives for over 50 years...they're just like any suburbs on Jersey shore or Long Island. It's just the city of Detroit needed work and it's finally back on track.

Flint is still a hell hole though..the locals call it 'Murder Town'. It used to be known as GM City because everyone there used to be a GM employee but since they moved everything to Mexico it's been a dump.

Sweet, I got fam around Detroit. I think in Dearborn? What's the brown community there like? Michigan seems like a cool place but too flat and cold from what I've heard.

If I'm not wrong Dearborn is almost exclusively Arab....

That's actually where I live too. Home of the Great Henry Ford and also known as Little Beirut due to the Lebanese community being the largest, followed by Iraqi, and some Yemeni. There's quite a few Lebastanis ...half Pakistanis and half Lebanese. Seems to be a trend out here.

19 brands of bottled water declared unsafe

The Pakistan Council for Research in Water Resources on Tuesday declared 19 brands of bottled and mineral water unsafe for human consumption due to microbiological or chemical contamination.

The government has directed PCRWR to quarterly monitor bottled and mineral water brands and publicise the results for awareness of the public.

For January to March, 185 samples of bottled water brands were collected from 21 cities. Comparison of test results with the bottled water quality standards of Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) has revealed that 19 brands were unsafe for human consumption due to microbiological or chemical contamination.

Six brands such as Hensley Pure Water, Pure Life, Natural Pure Life, Klear, Am Mughal Pure Water and Nero were found to be unsafe due to presence of higher levels of sodium, one brand Nero was found unsafe due to presence of high level of totally dissolved solids (TDS) than the permissible limit.

Similarly, Cleana, Orwell and Still were found unsafe due to presence of high level of arsenic than the permissible limit. Moreover, Starlay, Al-Faris Water, Nestlo Healthy Water, Nesspure, Pure Life, Natural Pure Life, Nesspak, Geo Max Premium, Cleana, Splash, Karakorum, Heavenly and 7 Bro were found contaminated with bacteria and thus were unsafe for drinking purpose, the PCRWR said in its report.

It cautioned the public to look at the detailed report to know about the status of water quality of bottled water brands they consume.

Grosse Pointe Shores is a pretty area though.

In Pakistan, drinking tap water can take you straight to hospital. Better to either boil it or use filter plants or buy mineral water. Nestle has the best taste for mineral water here though.

Of these have consumed Geo Water and Nestol in past. :/

I prefer filtered water always. Given that the water in Islamabad and Rawalpindi is not pure and the water levels in this region are decreasing, the shortage of drinking water is becoming more pronounced

Nestle took me to hospital. Have switched to Aquafina.

Every time I go to CostCo, which is usually once or twice a month. Every single trolley without fail has the Kirkload packs of bottled water. In some cases these are regular people not shop owners who are taking 3/4 packs of them for home use. I wonder if you guys experience the same where you are.

I liked Kroger's water.

Tap water.

Though I may go for bottled water if bottled in glass. More of a Perrier fan.

Bottled water in plastics is a big no for me. The plastic bottles are part reason for distinct taste, though anyone who has studied basic science will tell you water is tasteless, odourless, and colourless.
