BPL 2024: Pakistan players performance watch

16* off 24

But if you tell him that we need aggressive openers up top, this guy will run and cry to the media
They were chasing 72, Let's not forget the context. Liton Das, the captain and according to you a greater player than Rizwan, scored at a strike rate of 22.

How did Liton Das get out? Trying to play a shot? When did Rizwan attempt to play a shot throughout? You talk about context, name one PP throughout this whole tournament where Rizwan has played like a T20 opener does? Go on, name one!

His team wants him to play an anchor role. There's more than one type of a T20 opener.

CV bowled first and knew there's something in the pitch. They just played according to conditions

What? Where?! More than one type of T20 opener where?

There was a thread on this for last year BPL. CV won that tournament so there is a method to the madness of an anchor in t20s

Nice,

And Pakistan won anything with this method? Winning the BPL is like winning the Champion’s league of cricket?

7 Pakistan players will be in action for a match between Fortune Barishal and Khulna Tigers.

Ahmed Shehzad, Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Imran, and Akif Javed will be representing Fortune Barishal

while Mohammad Nawaz, Wasim jr, and Faheem Ashraf will be in action for Khulna Tigers.

Good day so far for the Pakistan players. Shoaib Malik chipped in with ball taking 2 wickets for 24 runs,Mohammad imran took 1 for 24 and akif took 1 for 27 in 3 overs for Fortune Barishal. Mohamamd Nawaz and Faheem Ashraf did well with the bat scoring 38*(23) and 32(13) respectively for thier team Khulna Tigers.

Faheem Ashraf shone with an all-round performance, scoring 32 with the bat and taking 3/18 with the ball. Mohammad Nawaz scored an unbeaten 38 runs off 23 balls but remained wicketless with figures of 0/23 in 3 overs, while Mohammad Wasim Jnr also went wicketless with 0/36 in 4 overs for Khulna Tigers.

How did Babar score 36 off 20 in the powerplay? This must be a 400 wicket

Babar Azam, playing for Rangpur Riders in BPL 2024, achieved a score of 47 runs from 37 balls against Sylhet Strikers. I see this as a composed innings amidst the modern day T20 cricket.

Well the quality of BPL is so apoplectic that we cannot deduce anything from it

Rizwan in 4 games 64 runs in 75 balls at a legendary SR of 83, amazing
According to @daytrader this is why Rizwan is especially hired. To just stand and let others score the runs..

I don’t understand why Shan Masood and Imam ul Haq not get in touch with BPL franchises? They are also brilliant at being useless in T20s too

If that’s what the demand is

Are you denying the existence of batting roles in t20s? I'm confused as to what you're arguing.

I'm sure Imam and Shan try to get contracts for leagues but fact is Rizwan is twice the t20 batter compared to them and hence has more demand. Add his excellent wicket keeping skills to the equation and he becomes an exceptional pick for many franchises

Rizwan has edge as.wicketkeeper therefore his chances of getting a contract get bright otherwise he is the same 70cc player like Shan Masood

Am I the one denying it or you are? You are the one denying that the openers role in T20 isn’t to make use of every ball in the powerplay by arguing ‘they are there to anchor’. That’s not true! That’s not cricket! Nowhere in the world is any T20 opener given the role to anchor the innings! If it’s a BPL thing, why then do Franchises not go an sign up Shan and Imam for these roles?? These two hardly get any franchise league contracts so NOC’s won’t be an issue either. Why are you ruining your own credibility as a cricket fan/analyst to defend something that you know is incorrect?

I remember one of the commentators in ilt20 criticising a batsman because he was batting at a 110 strike rate. That's probably why.
Yes Simon Doull is there

I would probably argue that Babar and Rizwan’s management company decided it’s better to take a massive pay cut and compromise the standard of cricket you are playing in order to avoid commentators like Doull who will call a ‘spade a spade’, instead of the over exaggeration you see elsewhere.

The issue with Doull (for Babar’s management company) is that he is highly influential and overpowers the view of other rubbish commentators around him. That’s when Waqar Younis and Wasim Akram all of a sudden find their voice and start calling things as they are, and that creates a huge problem for Babar and Rizwan’s brand imagining because then two Pakistan cricket legends are saying things which will be picked up by the vast, uneducated masses of Pakistan cricket fans.

I'm not reinventing the wheel here, this is how cricket has been played. Look there's different type of hitters out there and different approaches. Some try to muscle the ball, some try to time it. Important thing is getting runs.

Maximizing every ball doesn't mean hitting a six every ball as that's not possible. Anchors play an essential role in this regard as if they hold up one end, the big hitter on the other end can play with more freedom as to the balls he's facing. If the big hitter has to worry about wickets in hand etc and playing out the innings etc, due to a lack of an anchor in the side, then he won't be as effective in his hitting role.

There's a fine line between batting positively vs being gung-ho. Rizwan assesses conditions and plays accordingly. He can rotate the strike, go big and has the ability to play long innings. That's a modern day anchor for you. Rizwan is one of the best going around in this role so why would anyone opt for an inferior option like Imam or Shan

Babar Azam and Saim Ayub will be in action today for their teams as Rangpur Riders will face Durdanto Dhaka in Match 21 of this edition of the BPL.

Time for Saim to show some glimpses of his talent here.

Babar Azam falls short of fifty once again. His scores in the ongoing BPL so far:

47 (today), 47, 37, 62, 2, 56*. I wonder what is the problem here. The strike rate was also not that impressive in today's game.

Saim Fails yet again In BPL game today. his catch was dropped in the 2nd ball and now he is gone for 2 runs off 8 balls. The careless guy played another careless inning.

Salman Irshad recorded impressive bowling figure of 2/17 for Rangpur Riders in their win against Dhaka Dominators.

Babar Azam is the top run-scorer in the Bangladesh Premier League!

Additionally, Rangpur Riders have won 5/6 matches since his arrival and are top of the table.

6 matches
251 runs
50 average
115 strike rate

Scores: 56* (49), 2 (8), 62 (46), 37 (36), 47 (37), 47 (43)

Abbas Afridi 1/26 in 4 overs . Shoaib Malik 0/15 in 1 over so far in BPL while playing for Fortune Barishal against Chattogram Challengers.

Shoaib Malik gone after making 14(12) as his side Fortune Barishals lost the match against Chattogram Challengers.

Ahmed Shehzad gone after dismal 16(17)
Post match press meet 'There seems a deliberate effort to take my wicket, even when franchises have opted for other performers with inferior numbers, bowlers find it easier to take my wicket": Ahmed Shehzad

The pitch conditions plays a massive role which determines a good individual score as well as the team total.

The context is important.

Perhaps the admins can enlighten everyone on the types of pitch conditions and average scores the BPL has had this year.

Ah yes

That’s why Babar and Rizwan play like this everywhere?

You dont seem to understand what team roles are.

Babar plays in a side where wickets can tumble quickly and therefore has to adapt his game accordingly.

if there were reliable batters down the order he could play differently.

Did you not watch the NZ series.

He s scored some rapid 50 ball hundreds and a few 90s so not everywhere.

I personally prefer Saim and Fakhar in the first 6 pp overs to blaze away with Babar and Riz to follow but it looks like the management want a right - left combo at the top.

Thats why I say context.

Ah yes context. Babar’s role is to play ODI cricket, everyone else has the role to play T20 cricket.

Comilla Victorians vs Khulna Tigers, 23rd Match:

Mohammad Rizwan, Khushdil Shah, and Aamer Jamal will be in action today for Comilla Victorians while Faheem Ashraf, Mohammad Nawaz, and Mohammad Wasim Jr, will be playing for Khulna Tigers.

6 Pakistani players are to appear today in the BPL game.

Rizwan could not do much today as he scored 21 runs off 28 balls. Strike rate of below hundred? This is not good at all.

He’s done this in every game

Not just today
- 17 runs in 14 balls vs Barishal
- 14 runs in 16 balls vs Sylhet
- 17 runs in 21 balls vs Rangpur
- 16* runs in 24 balls vs Chattogram
- 21 runs in 28 balls vs Khulna

World’s number 1 keeper batsman guys

This is his score as an opener. 90% of these deliveries were in the powerplay

Khushdil Shah's game also did not go well today. Got run out for 4 runs. But on the other hand, Faheem Ashraf, Nawaz, and Wasim jr did well with the ball especially Faheem, who took 2 wickets in his 4 overs for 25 runs. A good job is done by the bowling side.

Today marked a Pakistani player feast in BPL 2024, showcasing remarkable performances.

For Comilla Victorians:

- Mohammad Rizwan scored 21 runs off 28 balls.
- Khushdil Shah contributed 4 runs in 3 balls.
- Aamer Jamal faced 0(1) but shone with the ball, taking 5 wickets for 23 runs in 4 overs.

For Khulna Tigers:

- Mohammad Wasim Jnr displayed an all-around effort with 1 wicket for 37 runs in 4 overs and a cameo innings of 23 runs off 12 balls.
- Faheem Ashraf impressed with both bat and ball, securing 2 wickets for 25 runs in 4 overs and adding 13 runs off 13 balls.
- Mohammad Nawaz faced 0/31 (3 overs) with the ball and contributed 7 runs off 13 balls with the bat.

Comilla Victorians won by 34 runs.

Rizwan's time is up as an opener. He has been embarrassing as an opener for quite sometime now.
Rizwan is a good player but he definitely should not open ahead of fakhar.

Usman Qadir took 2/16 in his 4 overs in BPL 2024 against Sylhet Strikers while playing for Durdanto Dhaka.

Rizwan will buy more time for himself as an opener by scoring runs on roads in the PSL. He is the captain and he will do what suits him first before his team.

His fans and supporters will continue to enforce the false narrative that he is a T20 opener, when he scores 400+ runs with a 130-140 sr in the PSL….

Whilst the likes of Roy and Fakhar will be scoring their runs with a sr over 170 on the same wickets

So, in the latest BPL game, Saim Ayub and Usman Qadir were in action for Durdanto Dhaka.

Unfortunately, things didn't go well for Saim Ayub as he got demoted to No. 5 and only managed to score 10 runs off 13 balls. Tough day for him.

On a brighter note, Usman Qadir was a star with the ball, taking 2 crucial wickets and giving away just 16 runs in his four overs. Impressive stuff from him!

Despite Usman Qadir's stellar performance, Sylhet Strikers ended up winning by 5 wickets.

At the age of 41, he continues to actively participate in franchise league cricket, currently playing for Durdanto Dhaka against Comilla Victorians in the BPL 2024. If given the opportunity during the power play, there is the potential for him to quickly secure wickets.

They haven't given him the ball in the Powerplay. I think it will cost Dhaka later.

They haven't given him the ball in the Powerplay. I think it will cost Dhaka later.

As an opening bowler by nature, Mohammad Irfan's absence during the Powerplay proved costly for Durdanto Dhaka, leading to a 4-wicket victory for Comilla Victorians.

Despite bowling the last over, Mohammad Irfan couldn't salvage Dhaka, concluding with bowling figures of 1/24 in 2.5 overs during the BPL match.

Ahmed Shehzad, Akif Javed and Shoaib Malik are in action for Fortune Barishal against Durdanto Dhaka.

Ahmed Shehzad is looking in good touch as an opener, playing smooth drives.

Ahmed Shehzad scoring only 10(8) for Fortune Barishal against Durdanto Dhaka, he despite expressing a preference for domestic cricket and relinquishing the ILT20 2024 contract during Imad Wasim's retirement, chose to skip the President's Trophy 2023-24 final and participate in the BPL 2024.

Despite batting at number 6 for Fortune Barishal, Shoaib Malik scored 19*(10) against Durdanto Dhaka in BPL 2024. This innings proved impactful for Barishal, posting 189/4 in 20 overs. But considering his experience, Shoaib Malik should have been utilized in the top order.

Akif Javed emerged as the most expensive bowler for Fortune Barishal against Durdanto Dhaka, conceding 47 runs in 4 overs with bowling figures of 1/47. I have always had doubts about his consistency with line and length. He tends to deliver random deliveries.

Ahmed Shehzad missed an opportunity to play in the President's Trophy 2023-24 final, where he could have gained some recognition. His performance of 24(22) for Fortune Barishal against Durdanto Dhaka is underwhelming. Meanwhile, Shoaib Malik, true to form, batted in the lower order and managed only 10*(9).

The Bangladesh Premier League featured some of Pakistan’s top players and some upcoming talents in the 2024 season. Here’s how each of them fared.

Babar Azam – Rangpur Riders

251 runs @ 50.2, HS: 62, SR: 114.61

The leading wicket-taker in BPL 2024 when he exited the tournament, Babar hit two half-centuries and played a key role in their run to the top of the table. The strike rate invited debate.

Mohammad Rizwan – Comilla Victorians

85 runs @ 21.25, HS: 21, SR: 82.52

A forgettable outing for Pakistan’s second-highest run-getter in T20Is. Retained by the Victorians, Rizwan managed a high score of just 21 from five games opening the batting. The worrying bit? A strike rate of 82.

Khushdil Shah – Comilla Victorians

65 runs @ 13, HS: 21, SR: 144.44

Rizwan’s teammate at Victorians, Khushdil batted at No.5, generating quick cameos at the backend of innings. Pushed to No.7 in one of them games, he managed a 22-ball 21.

Saim Ayub – Duronto Dhaka

77 runs @ 15.4, HS: 35, SR: 95.06

The Pakistan sensation, playing his debut BPL season, had a forgettable outing, averaging 15 with a strike rate of 95. After being tried out as an opener, Ayub was moved to No.3, where he managed a two-ball eight.

Ahmed Shehzad – Fortune Barishal

155 runs @ 25.83. HS: 66, SR: 143.51

After Babar, Shehzad scored the second-most runs from a Pakistan player, rediscovering some of his old form. The bulk of those runs came in a 41-ball 66 while opening the batting, and a 39 off 13 before that.

Shoaib Malik – Fortune Barishal

113 runs @ 56.5, HS: 41*, SR: 131.39, 3 wickets @ 22, BBI: 2-24, ER: 9.42

It was an eventful entry for Malik, who played his first BPL 2024 game the day he made his wedding public. There were shades of the Malik of old, including an unbeaten 25-ball 41 in a 156-run chase, but also encountered controversy following his three front-foot no-balls in the same over.

Abbas Afridi – Fortune Barishal

2 wickets @ 54.5, ER: 9.08, BBI: 1-26

Abbas Afridi had a brief stay in the BPL for Fortune Barishal, operating first-change for the franchise in three games. He picked up two wickets in three games, and conceded over 40 twice.

Mohammad Nawaz – Khulna Tigers

5 wickets @ 16.4, ER: 6.83, BBI: 3-15; 100 runs @ 50, HS: 55, SR: 142.85

The all-rounder had a mixed bag with the ball, claiming five wickets in his first two outings, but wicketless thrice thereafter. With the bat, he starred twice, smashing 55 off 34 and 38* off 23 from No.6.

Faheem Ashraf – Khulna Tigers

8 wickets @ 12.75, ER: 6.37, BBI: 3-18; 60 runs @ 30, HS: 32, SR: 176.47

The all-rounder was nifty with the ball, twice picking up a three-wicket haul in a short four-match stint. In a limited role with the bat, he smashed 32 off 13 from No.9 in one of the games.

Mohammad Imran – Fortune Barishal

10 wickets @ 18.8, ER: 8.74, BBI: 4-29

The uncapped speedster ended as the second-highest wicket-taker for Barishal in his debut BPL season – albeit a tad expensive – picking up a wicket off his first ball in the tournament with a yorker.

Aamer Jamal – Comilla Victorians

6 wickets @ 10.33, ER: 6.52, BBI: 5-23

Another fast-bowling talent, Jamal played just three matches but made his presence felt, picking up a five-wicket haul against the Khulna Tigers in a Player of the Match performance.

Mohammad Wasim – Khulna Tigers

5 wickets @ 23.4, ER: 7.46, BBI: 2-13

The Pakistan quick played four games and was typically neat with the new ball, picking up four wickets from his first two games. In the next two, he conceded a combined 73 runs with just one wicket to show.

Usman Qadir – Duronto Dhaka

4 wickets @ 27.5, ER: 5.78, BBI: 2-16

The leggie played five matches, and while he did not run through sides, the economy rate remained commendable. He didn’t concede more than 20 in three out of the five games.

Mohammad Irfan – Duronto Dhaka

1 wicket @ 24, BBI: 1-24, ER: 8.47

41-year-old Irfan, once a regular in the Pakistan attack, featured in a solitary game, picking up one wicket.

Salman Irshad – Rangpur Riders

2 wickets @ 16, BBI: 2-17, ER: 8

The 28-year-old uncapped Pakistan seamer, who has featured previously in the PSL, made two appearances, picking up 2-17 in his second outing.

Ahmed Shehzad and Akif Javed featuring in today's game
Akif's 4 overs went for 32 runs but he got 1 wicket as well while on the other hand, Ahmed Shahzad's dismal form continues, he is now gone for 1 off 7 balls.
