Good luck for bashing Indian trundlers in IPL and earning easy money!

Anyways, Aus has far better players to represent their country.

Brad Hodge has IPL to look forward to meanwhile Pakistani players have nothing. A lot of people in USA with good jobs make more than our cricketers.

The guy is 39 years old...obviously he sees no future playing for Australia anymore. The only format he probably will be considered is T20..It was the right decision for him..Stop mocking the guy.

Hodge was a good player, one of the few players who missed out playing more games for Australia during the golden period for them when some serious talents could not make it to their team.

Australian Sheffield Shield cricketers also earn a decent wage as well.

Pakistani players are expected to be full time professionals like the players of other countries but don't get paid the corresponding wages. It's going to hurt Pakistan in the future.

Especially since Country Cricket contracts are harder to get and the IPL is not an option.

Cricketing world really missed out here. Quality Player who would have walked into most sides in the world.

He was very unlucky in that when an opening in the team emerged both Hussey and Clarke were around.

The spinner's Brad Hogg, right? 40 years old? I get so confused.

Anyways, good luck and good bye mister, whoever you are. Sorry, but I don't know you so well.

George Bradley Hogg is the spin bowler and dual world cup winning bowler.

Brad Hodge is the batsman who had a short international career due to bad luck. He did manage a test double century against South Africa though.

I wasn't expecting an answer, so thank you. :)

How come his test average is 55.88? He was dropped with an average of 58.42 only five matches into his Test career? WHY?

it was him or Clarke.....probably the most unluckiest of all cricketers...underrated

Very unlucky that he was Australian. Any other team, and he would have had a glorious career.

Stuart Law is another player who was extremely unlucky. He would have made the middle order of every team in the 90's...Amazing player to watch but could not break into a strong Australian test team. Darren Lehmann is another such player but he did have a decent career at the fag end but again he would have played many more games for any other team in the world.

One player gone, one player left. I wonder how the world will react when Misbah retires.

so you saying they chose youth over experience?

Australian side at that moment was too strong and balanced and there was no room...but if Australia had kept him in the loop , may be the rapid decline post Ponting/Hussey era could have be avoided.

'Old codger' was a top-class player at his peak.

He's still an extremely good T-20 player, and was Royal's best batsman last year, winning them many games. He was treated very unfairly by his selectors, and the Aussie board admitted as much. Criticising him is really wrong, and he's done nothing to deserve it, being an extremely good cricketer at all forms of the game.

He deserves every penny he earns in the IPL, CPL, Big Bash or whatever else he plays.

Brad Hodge announces retirement from all forms of cricket

Former Australian batsman Brad Hodge on Sunday announced retirement from all forms of cricket. The 43-year-old right-handed batsman made the call following complications he suffered due to appendicitis.

Hodge was quoted as saying by News Corp, “This will be the end of the road. I’ll represent (Melbourne club) East Sandringham in the finals and that will be it for my cricket career.”

Hodge had pulled out from Melbourne Renegades’ squad in the latter stages of the Big Bash League 2017-18 due to health-related issues.

He played six Tests, 25 ODIs and 15 T20Is for Australia from 2005-2014 and remained associated with T20 tournaments such as BBL and the Indian Premier League (IPL). His last assignment in the IPL was with the now-defunct Gujarat Lions as their head coach.

The Victorian cricketer had spent three days in a Canberra hospital, where he got his burst appendix removed, reported cricket.com.au. However, an infection caused post his operation landed Hodge in hospital again for another surgery.

“Technology now keeps you up and about, but (the doctor) stated that 30-40 years ago it could have been the end of the road,” he said.

“Time-wise for me, I was probably fortunate I went in (to hospital) on the Saturday in Melbourne. If I’d left it another 24 hours it could have been a lot worse. The surgeon didn’t paint a great picture of what was happening inside there,” he added.

At the start of the Australian summer, Hodge had hoped to continue playing. “It’s a good fun time, I love being involved and I really look forward to it,” he was quoted as saying by bigbash.com.au.

“My thoughts on playing are if you can’t make an impact, then don’t play. If I can’t do what I have to do on the field, then I’ll walk off and pack it in,” he added.

Despite averaging 55.88, Hodge did not get enough chances in an extremely competitive Australian side which ruled the roost last decade. He played six Tests and converted his only Test century into a double hundred — 203 not out against South Africa at Perth in December 2005.

In 25 ODIs, Hodge scored 575 runs at 30.26 with one century and three fifties. He made 183 runs in 15 T20Is at 26.14.

Hodge played an overall 223 First-Class matches, scoring 17.084 runs at 48.81 with 51 tons and 64 fifties. In 251 List-A games, Hodge averaged 43.25 scoring 9,127 runs.

His record in T20 cricket is equally impressive, scoring 7,406 runs — sixth highest overall — at 36.84 with two hundreds and 48 half-centuries.

Underrated player. Should have played more internationally but can be proud of maximizing the chances he got.

Hodge is one of the unfortunate ones who in spite of being extremely talented could not break into the Aussie side. Good luck to him in whatever he chooses to do after retirement.

Overrated player who wouldn't have been as good as people think he would have.

Would still be top three batsmen in the current Australian team though.

So unlucky not to have played more games for Australia. Just showed how strong that great Australian team was that Hodge hardly got a regular run.

He's underrated. Should have played more tests & T20Is for Australia.
