Buying shares?

CPX expected some positive follow through today but chartwise it looks like just a normal retrace and still expecting some blockbuster news within weeks so hope for consolidation and then build a base at higher level for next shoot higher

big.chart

Retrace was inevitable in the short term with profit taking, and those locked in for a year cashed out.

We've seen the same today with XEL. Great update (more reserves, lower costs) yet retrace second half of the day.

Sorry if this has been asked before but what brokerage service do recommend for trading? I'm new to trading and want to try and invest in small - mid cap equities.

Chart developing nicely

Real PI investor momentum behind it now

Management seem to have got their ducks lined up and seems now the 1p placing was a deliberate walk down so friends and family could load up

If we get the news of a big licensing contract or even a small licensing deal with a global multinational the stock really could fly to 10-20p in pretty short order which would still only give it a Market Cap of £24-48m

which compares with

$100m of accumulated tax losses / vc and institutional investment

$67m the amount a private VC backed competitor Ioxus has raised in last few years
$184m the market cap of the leading quoted supercapacitor/ultracapacitor company Maxwell Tech

$30,000m ! the market cap of their existing licensing partner Murata the Capacitor experts who are massive suppliers to Apple and came to CPX for their expertise in thin supercapacitors (i suspect at the behest of Apple)

murata announced results recently http://www.businesswire.com/news/ho...unced-Record-High-Results-FY2014#.VUOGECFViko

“Going forward, we will maintain our strong commitment to mobile and automotive markets, but we will also accelerate our expansion to new markets and applications such as energy and healthcare.”

CPX i get the impression they are building up towards a real blockbuster RNS where they announce a major deal with a big name partner

p.php

looks like some anticipation of weekend press comment or more deals next week ?

clearly a line of resistance at 4p

i would expect will require significant news and volume to break that

then minimum defined resistance between 4p and 10p

then big gap up potential between 10p and 20p

see elsewhere some chatting that potential for gap up from 4p to 8p but dont see that myself

big.chart

today is interesting as we have an engulfing candle encompassing the totality of yesterdays falling candle on higher volume so could be said to be a huge consolidation under near term resistance and so odds on continuation of dramatic rise very likely

whole market seems to be getting a bit more positive after a few years of really very poor performance

this is the 5 year chart

looks like we have had a decent bottom and basing period setting the scene for more positive market backdrop

personally think such a recovery will come from non-resource sectors but cant rule out some old favourites catching fire with PIs

The sooner shorting is banned, the more stable AIM will become. Many investors will never invest again once they get their price point to exit the market.

I do not think shorting is the biggest problem. It is too many CEOs who run companies as lifestyle businesses and dont have enough stock skin in the game and get their rewards from constantly re-pricing options. They then have no worries about diluting their shares to death via death spiral funders of last resort like Yorkville, Lanstead or Darwin or Bergen

You've always had chancers. Penny shares had always attracted **** or bust chancers.

But shorting in this market, especially when you don't even need deep pockets to 'own' that stock, can kill companies that should have huge potential.

too casual for my liking, looks like someone in need of coke lol

SAV mixed news, good on gold sampling, poor on copper drilling

the poor copper news should predominate but Mr Archer is a good spinner with skin in the game

NEW some big games being played on that will be fascinating to watch that unfold

p.php
p.php

SAV results still look mixed to me but Archer will be banging the drum at Proactive forum tomorrow so expect positive spin articles

cash position looks ok for now so can't see imminent placing albeit no doubt there will be soon hmm

chart looks to have based so room for a manufactured run

big.chart

Weird statement from NEW. Confusion regarding the actual holding percentage of Judith Williams. How can there be such a big disparity???

Also, doesn't Williams also hold in CPX? I've got a headache and need a lie down.

Tom Winnifrith has suggested Judith Williams is some cover name behind which some guy called ChrisOil is trading

CPX well that 4p resistance didnt hold

Looks pregnant with news now which could see a massive blow off at some point

With the figures out there like the $1.8 bn near term addressable opportunity with a credible partner in the US for their Truckstart unit the current Mkt Cap of £10m looks woefully short

If they can get a royalty interest on just 10% of $180m a year the stock should be valued at closer to £100m than £10m

Im in the same boat with XEL too.

Cole let slip last week that the rig is under construction, suggesting financing of some sort may be in place. Investor sentiment is so fickle - you could give these shares away a couple of weeks ago, and yet now they are absolute darlings.

Some great bargains to be had right now.

keeps on trucking

some talking of 50p a market cap of just over £100m

can't rule that out to be honest

would represent a 50 bagger on recent 1p placing but would still be a 50% discount to the IPO price in 2006

Looks like £1.5m to be raised. Great move to cash in on great sentiment to secure funding for next six months. It will also ensure that potential licensees won't be able to use CPX's lack of cash as leverage in any negotiations.

Always find it a bit strange that Companies do that sort of nickel and dime stuff why not collaborate with a technology partner and aim to grow together

you fund more R&D and just look to out innovate your competitors rather than go for lowest common denominator

I don't believe in anything this s28 says, I forgot his real name but he was ramping that PHE (Powerhouse Energy Group) to no ends and we all saw how that turned out, made me lose 2K.

You are not obliged to follow anyone... you should always follow your research/gut. I had made tons and lost tons at the same time. Dont blame your own laziness on someone else. No one is a sage or predict the future.

s28, jaspa and myself have posted in this thread perhaps the most and always posted caveats in investing in small cap markets. Rather than throw money around, I would suggest you read up how the penny share cycle works and only once you have understood it, begin to take risks here.

Selling is a discipline in itself and one even professional money managers admit they find hard to time entry and exit

I tend to follow a pound or dollar cost averaging approach to investments so you might not call the exact top or bottom but likely to manage your risk more effectively over time

Having said that when it comes to CPX its personal and having seen it IPO at 100p and convinced myself it is worth that based on everything working out as Management have claimed I dont intend to pass up one of the few opportunities of a once in a lifetime potential 'hundred bagger'.

Charaat gold (CGH) - there is hype starting about them... Anyone with any view or more likely past bad experience with this lot ? :)

My reasoning is simple... they have basically capped the rise till the placing happens. So best to take profit and jump in when mates get in at a lower rate.

The other side of the coin to a 'potential 100 bagger' is that you don't need much in it to make it count if it does come off and with that size of move always likely to be trading opportunities

given OXS and HMB and KYS and PGR experience they are doing well to still be going in the former USSR

not a fan of gold stocks as a sector at the moment because gold is so depressed and there are gold bugs still calling the bottom rather than capitulating

having said that my memory of CGH is as a high grade low cost mining operation so if they have cashflow and there is an upturn they could be best placed to exploit it

chart seems to have turned a bit after a medium term downtrend

Still holding but then I've never been in an AIM share where the company has the 'best' something in the world. Let's hope they don't **** this opportunity away.

Sell in May and go away?

i have given up giving too much credence to this so it will probably be the one year where i get smashed up by it

i still think it is a market of stocks not a stock market so dont really care what the general index does as long as some stocks act bullish or have good stock specific stories

if they succeed i think it will be despite the engineers in charge than because of them

far too **** and obsessed about making their stuff 'the best' on some engineering parameter rather than focusing on commercial success and serving their customers/shareholders

the more licensing deals they sign the better because then some grown ups might start making the decisions Murata or the Truck partner could make this Company by themselves

Over-engineering is a common fault in tech-led businesses.

It's a conundrum though. You need a hard-nosed commercial team to maximise opportunities, but a lot of the technical talent will leave as they don't like working for The Man.

pxs from page one of this thread!! :)

Lol. I did think of that EE but while they had something unique in terms of EFSA approval, it was something many other companies were striving for.

However, a perfect demonstration of how a shitty management team can Heskey even the most open of goals.

noticed copper price in the high $2/lb again

$3/lb is usually seen as an important psychological level

could small copper plays like CDC and MNC become interesting again

very promotional RNS from XTR

headlining a 400g/tonne grade will bring attention but 700t x 3g/tonne is only about a hundred ounces so less than $0.1m in revenue

The next stage is for Xtract to cut a further two benches of 25m each which is expected to deliver approximately 3,000t of surface ore grading at between 3g/t to 8g/t. This will then be blended with approximately 5,000t of underground ore grading at 2.5g/t gold from the main Chepica mine.

this may be more meaningful

3000t x 3g/t = 9000 grammes or about 300 oz $300-400k
5000t x 2.5g/t = 12500 grammes or about 400 oz $400-500k

CPX - Been mentioned an Placing is coming, what would that actually mean for the share price,

Normally, a placing at a discount has a short-term negative impact on SP. There are obviously more shares in circulation, and lots of short-term trading opportunities for traders looking to make a quick buck.

In this case, the SP doesnt seem to be tanking. Probably because so many shares are already in the hands of institutional investors who have a more long-term approach to investing. In addition, the market has decided that the potential of the company is still not reflected in the current market capitalisation.

Thank Jaspa888,
The way the price is holding up, hopefully it will not make a big difference

Jan Nelson talking some big profit numbers but I would not put the E on a big PE rating because the nature of the mining they are doing is very limited small scale mining of narrow high grade veins with guys with picks and shovels

the idea of this asset was simply to provide cashflow to fund other divisions with more exciting growth prospects so either the cashflow will go into those new projects or he might i guess try to do a placing based off the current strong sentiment

chart looks pretty good to achieve the target he apparently set for himself a few weeks back so maybe he will wait before pressing the button on a placing short term

with reference to the discussion above i would add that sometimes placings are good as long as they dont dilute shareholders too much or bring in assets or business which expands the size of the opportunity open to the company

unfortunately they get a bad reputation because they tend to be used by managers of lifestyle businesses to pay their own wages not to expand the company for shareholders

No CEO better than Mark Child not even Jan Nelson.

TERN ready to blow according to my mate. I dont know much about it except they have developed encryption software for cloud-based applications.

Despite being slated constantly by Shareprophets they still turned up to present at UK Investor Show

TERN starting to motor. I haven't researched it yet so I'm not in.

Zak Mir is about to launch a show on TipTV so that'll be an interesting watch.

CPX & XTR both took a bit of an hammering today, personally don't know why, with the news we have had...

General Election jitters throughout the market. Not big hammerings considering recent gains.

#XTR

NEWSFLASH: A placing RNS out. These small caps love diluting shareholders. JN Nelson didn't mention this in his interview lol.

S28 - You anticipated this really well.

the stock went up too far too fast given what was a small topline revenue number

if the cashflow really was as good as expected Nelson could have waited but obviously it was too tempting to rip off shareholders in the short term
